Thanks for the info...I may do that but it's not like I have to sell it to get the money or anything.  It was more out of feeling bad the dress wasn't getting to be warn.  Fiancee told me today to keep it.  He says shorten the train by taking the bottom layer off or maybe bottom two, add a rhinstone belt and wear it as a reception dress...then use it the next day in a TTD session.  I may do just that.  I have lots of time to decide as our wedding is in November.

 

I think I may be a little attached to it how weird is that?

Thanks Lisa.  Both dresses Monica Bridal made for me were absolutely perfect.  With the exception of sizing of the first dress, which was my own fault.  The difference between the two dresses was doing my own measurements vs having a pro do them...I remember your dress looked very well constructed and very close to the inspiration dress but that it was too long right?  For 140-160 dollars, not a bad deal considering what we would pay in a bridal shop.  I think we def come out on top with knock off.  I say even with alterations, you'll get a great deal on your dress.  Good luck with alterations.  Let's see it again if you decide to go that route.

It's a beautiful dress and well constructed just too big and long and the boning wasn't strong enough to hold up the girls lol

After my meeting with the seamstress if I go that route i will repost pics. I ended up ordering an original for the wedding but still need a TTD but i also like another dress from alfred angelo so if this dress can't be fixed to what I want i may try the knock off route again with professional measurements for the alfred angelo dress cause it is a really basic dress.

Shootystar - I think the holiday is about a week, but you should check with them.

 

Ginger - You probably feel so attached because you were more involved in the construction of your dress. I had the same sizing issues, the first time I did it myself, the second time I had a professional. Funny thing is the numbers were really close, maybe only off by an inch or two.

 

Lisa - I'm sure you'll be able to find someone that can fix it for a reasonable price.

Hey girls,

 

I am having such a hard time deciding on a dress to purchase for my TTD.  I am a little nervous about my "real" dress and the fact that as of now, I don't love it.  I am taking it Saturday for some alterations and I'm hoping she can make it more of my dream dress.  So, for my Knock off TTD, I can't decide if I want to go for something that if it's fabulous I may wear as my real dress, or just do something flowy that's gonna look pretty with the water scenes?  Thoughts?

 

I was considering the Adorae but it's a pretty silk, and I'm nervous about that coming from a China wholesaler.

Have you tried on the real Adorae to make sure you like the dress and the fit?

Chinese New Year is on Feb 3 this year, and usually the workers will have 1 week off, so they can go back to their village and spend time with their parents.

I mentioned it numerous times on this thread DON'T TAKE MEASUREMENT ON YOUR OWN!  I bet no one really listen, and just save that $10 and take the measurement by themselves.

I think most of the time, the dressmaker will follow the measurements with +/- 1 to 2 inches  margin of error ( I mean, they don't have laser cutter in their factory).  The difference is not very noticeable.

Thus, when ur measurement is already 2 inches off, the result can be 4 inches off at the end.

at 4 inches of difference..then YES, the dress would be too big /too small/too long/too short.

It actually didn't cost me anything to stop at an alterations store to have them take measurements. I was just working crazy hours for a long time and was not able to get out during the hours that stores are normally open.

 

We all learn the hard way?

Yeah, I tried it on, but it was hard to tell if I would LOVE it b/c their samples are always way too big.
