haha well we lucked out and got a really good deal, because of an error that our tour operator made when they provided a quote, so they said they would honor the rate but we had only a month to get our deposits down. I guess some people could still back down, but 55 people have paid their deposits, so I'm hoping they all stick with it! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I understand everyone's frustration. I think that everyone would be able to come to our wedding given enough time heads up. We let everyone know what we were thinking x-mas 2008 and now the save the dates just went out. I will expect alot to change their minds and not attend - I will try not to have hurt feelings.

The costs for us are really adding up too! I thought the destination wedding was supposed to be more economical!

I am lucky all our family is booked, but last night (the day before final payment was due) my fiancee's two groom men backed out. I was shocked to say the least because they committed months ago and even paid deposits. They've known for a year about our plans and now all of a sudden... one can't afford it so the other is backing out too because he doesn't want to go alone. I couldn't believe it. I was working hard last night trying to get him a good rate for single occupancy and he says "if I knew ____ wasn't going to come I wouldn't have booked because I don't want to go alone". I was so hurt by that comment, I started to cry and said you'd miss your best friends wedding because you don't want to go alone? I was so upset I had to hang up. The worst is my fiancee is really upset and extremely hurt, but he tells them it's ok. NO IT'S NOT!! He even said to me last night that in the beginning he didn't think anyone would come, then when they all put down their deposits he got all excited... backing out like this is such a blow. He has one friend coming now. I have three bridesmaids and he has a best man. We are all going to be lopsided, lol

But seriously.... how do you get past the selfishness of others? We are really starting to see who our true friends are. I dunno... if it was me I would have been saving for months and without question would be there. cry.gif
Sorry to hear. We ran into the same issue. My fiancee originally had 5 bridesmaids but 3 backed out. I had already asked 5 of my closest friends to be groomsmen and they all accepted. Now with only 2 bridesmaids it created an imbalance so I decided to cut 3 groomsmen. I decided keeping the guys who were partnered with the 2 remaining bridesmaids. Luckily my uys are cool and totally understood; no drama and no fuss. I still have them part of the wedding doing some important stuff for us like that veil, cord and coin (cultural stuff).

It works out as the 2 bridesmaids who remain are way more responsible and caring. The others who backed out seemed to be in their own little bubble and who wants that? I don't have patience for that sh!t.

All in all we have 78 people now confirmed. However there are a few key people that we really wanted to come who promised and now they backed out. My fiancee was really hurt and disappointed, but I told her not to worry about those people. What matters is the 78 people who have booked and are coming to spend an amazing week with us. Those are the people that took the time to save and plan their vacation so they can spend the week with us. Those are the truly important people and we are grateful for them.

Hey everyone. I'm new to this thread. I got engaged 2 weeks ago today on September 18th and I am looking to be an August 7, 2010 bride. We are choosing between the El Dorado Royale, Aventura Palace and getting details about Riu Palace Riviera Maya. EDR seems to be the frontrunner, but want to thoroughly look at everything before we decide. The goal is to decide by the end of this weekend so I can get started on STDs. WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!!

hey guys...

i think it's important to remember that coming to a destination wedding is a HUGE financial commitment from our friends and family...and i really don't think we can fault them or think they are selfish for not coming.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that some of my and my fiancees' friends will come (many are excited and SAY they will come)...but we are preparing ourselves for the reality that it just might not be possible for many of them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
