Thanks for the tip
Maybe you'll have better luck. I honestly just think that the DB's in CT suck. lol It seems like girls in other states have much better experiences. I will say that in Orange it seemed like you could really do whatever you wanted, like not have anyone who works there help you if you don't want them to. Just tell them. I think the only reason for the appointment is because the girls who work there earn a commission for their sales. So, that's how they keep it fair and know which bride goes to which consultant. Its definitely not because it benefits the customer! I guess if you go there with low expectations at least you won't be disappointed.

You don't go to Southern in New Haven, do you? Just curious because I go there... :)

Hi, just wondering if everything worked out. I am going through my own issues with David's so I can relate. I was pressured into chosing a dress while I was there at my first appointment, they were throwing dates around telling me if I didn't order that day I wouldn't have it in time. I was down to 2 dresses, neither of which I loved and asked if I could call and place the order Monday (it was Saturday), they told me that the two dresses I was interested in had a 12 hour window and if I didn't order in 12 hours they wouldn't come in time. They quoted me April 27 for my dress. I ordered it Jan. 10, I received a call on Jan. 26, 16 DAYS LATER, that they had my dress. I was so mad that I was given all that pressure and then it only took 2 weeks. And now I HATE my dress, I don't want it. I want to exchange it. I have read on here threads and posts about people exchanging but those posts are older and I am worried that they won't let me do it. So thats my issue with David's. I hope yours is working out.

UPDATE: I just called David's and they are going to let me exchange for a dress of equal or greater value!!! So excited to try more on and hopefully find one I love!

Grrr...it just makes me hate them more and more! I'm sorry that that happened...it's been my experience that they are just looking for a commission and will pressure you into doing anything. They don't seem to care about making sure you make the right choice.

I'm so glad they are letting you exchange it though. I didn't think they would...they told me I could do a size exchange but that's it.

My situation hasn't really gone anywhere. I called several other DB in CT and NY and none had my dress in a 0 so I could go try it on. One store was nice enough to look in the computer and was able to tell me that my particular dress could not be located anywhere across the US in a 0, so it truly was a special order. I wish the first store had done that and saved me the trouble of calling a million places. My plan was to try on a 0 in a different dress just to see how the sizing was, but I don't think I'm going to bother. The 2 is a little big, but I'm hoping to grow into it in the next couple of months. I'm going to pick up some of those disgusting health shakes and start drowning myself in them....I showed the dress to my aunt and cousin the other day and they made me feel a lot better about it. They said it was fine the way it is and if I got a 0 I might not be able to move as easily in it (sit down/dance), which is probably true.

So for now I think I will just deal with it. I still have plenty of time to change my mind...

Good luck finding a new dress!

Wow...what a freakin SAGA for you! Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've had with what SHOULD have been just a wonderful experience for you to remember.

I definitely think it's an individual store to store thing. Problem is, it's a chain, so there is no real vested interest INSIDE the store from the people working there to make sure service is a good reflection on David's as a company. I think that's why bridal shops treat you better. They are usually independantly owned and operated and those sales people WANT you to be happy and spread the word.

I just got fitted for a bridesmaids dress (I'm in a last minute wedding in April) last Thursday night, and the funny thing is that my friend, the bride, just emailed me saying that David's is STILL calling and bugging her about this $130 tiara she told them Thursday night that she did NOT want. They also tried to force her to buy the store sample gown she tried on...luckily, she had ALL seven of us maids with her and we put our foot down and got kinda snarky about it when they said they wanted her to take that one. Finally, the associate was like "Oh, yea..we can order another one for you." My question was, "Why on earth would she want a used ass gown that a thousand ladies have tried on for the same prices as a brand new never-worn gown?" Maybe it would have been different if they were offering her some kind of price reduction on the sample, but they weren't. That's just appalling to me.

At any rate, glad you got some second opinions from your family and seem comfortable with your gown. If you seriously want it taken in, consider an outside seamstress (outside of DB I mean) who comes highly recommended or something. They charge way too much for basic alterations at DB.

Thank you, I am glad they are letting me exchange it as well, just hope I find something cause I don't want to try to sell it on my own and I don't have alot of time. Anyway, I am sorry to hear that they haven't been great to you, I agree with Billys Bride, it seems like it is store to store. I called a store other than the one I purchased from and expressed my displeasure with the way I was treated at the original store and how miserable I am about my dress and the woman was SOOO nice about the exchange. I am sure if I called the original store and asked they would have said no. You are going to look beautiful in your dress, I am sure, and I agree with your family, the 2 might be better for the lower body to allow for easier movement and then just find a seamstress outside of DB that will make the top a perfect fit. If you know you love the dress overall, just go to someone that does incredible work with alterations and in the end it will turn out perfect, hopefully the awful experience with DB will become a distant memory.

  • 2 months later...

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I will agree, I HATE DB as well. To type out the whole story would take forever, but let's just say that when I was in there with a very close friend of mine helping her look for dresses the associate we got was more than helpful and kind and what not. She even let me try on two dresses that at the time I thought would be 'the' dress for me- should my then BF propose. After said BF proposed and became FH she and I went back to the store. We had the SAME consultant.

First, she rushed me to look through the catalog and start finding dresses I liked. Then, she didn't bring over half of them. I am bigger than my friend, she's about a 4-6, I wear about a 14-16. I'm not a huge girl, but I am bigger. Where it shows is really in my breasts and I have back fat (ugh! that's a whole 'nother post for a whole 'nother day). Well when my friend was trying on dresses, the consultant (who is NOT a small girl herself- in fact she's larger than me because she's shorter) made sure to explain to her that wedding gowns run small and brought sizes that were larger to make sure they'd fit. With me, she made sure to bring me gowns in 12's and 14's, which we all know here- your street size and your wedding gown size ain't gonna be the same thing. So basically I had to try on a bunch of gowns that didn't fit and after a while it was demoralizing. I kept asking her if she had the gowns in a little bit bigger of sizes and she'd just keep telling me 'oh no, that gown doesn't come in plus sizes' or 'we don't have that gown here in plus sizes' or 'a 14 is the largest size this gown comes in'.

At some point, I came out and was standing on the pedastal and she was writing stuff down and not even trying to help lace me up or zip me or anything. I stood there with my back open to the whole store waiting for her help. And when I asked for it, she got an attitude. In one gown, I had come out and was waiting to be laced up, and she asked another consultant to borrow some clips, and was like "I can't zip this one up either" so the other consultant came over and they both started making faces and snickering trying to zip this too small gown up on me. I nearly started crying right then and there.

In a nuthsell, DB did not get my money. My friend had already ordered her gown- but she decided DB would not get any extra money and actually changed her BM's gowns to another brand with another company rather than give DB her business.

OMG! Again, I hate hate hate them...I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know you will find a dress that you love elsewhere! You've got plenty of time!

If anyone is interested in an update, my DB dress (size 2) is still sitting in my closet. I need to make an appointment for alterations soon, as I'm coming up on 2 months. I guess I'm just not super-excited to wear it. I do love it, but I was hoping something else would come along (in my pricerange) that I love more, but that just hasn't happened.

I'm also having an issue because the BM dresses I want are from DB, and I'm debating whether or not to give them any more money!

I was very happy with them with my SIL time at DB and when I got my dress there (witch I love and they altered perfectly)

BUT when I took my BM to look the consoltent was never around, though my brother picking out dresses for my SIL was hilerious!!!

I wanted to by a veil (though when I got my dress I said I would not where one) but I wanted to try it on with my dress (just one off the rack)

But she told me she had to wait for an opening.... ummm hello I was with two people in dressing rooms we can shair, just get me the dern dress so I can spend too much on a stupid veil I'll only have on for 15 mins (but yes I wanted it anyways)

finaly after making my family wait over an hour I got to put my dress on to see is with the veil... though it was all worth it to see the look on my dads face when I walked out of the dressing room!

Well all the dresses/ veil where desited on, we waited another 45 mins to see out consoltent, to let us know we could just go to the register... and she tryed giving me the veil off the "try on" rack.... though it made no diffrence less than a week after getting it home my cat though it would make a fun toy and put a hole in it grrrr

So I had a great time and a horible time at DB

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
