Is 18 months too early to start planning!?!

Recommended Posts

Am I crazy for wanting to start planning my wedding? We have 18months until the wedding, what could I be doing right now? We will be putting down the deposit for our wedding package soon, and have already started a contract for blocking hotel rooms...

What else should I be doing? When should I get my dress, etc.

PLEASE ADVISE!! undecided.gif

I started planning my Oct 09 wedding in Jun 08. I first chose our venue, then did the room block etc. Then I booked flowers and photographer all by Aug 08. After that it's been pretty easy-going. I casually searched for a dress and I ordered it in the fall (which is early but I found the one I like so why not?) You have lots of time so don't stress! It's never too early to start researching vendors you like though, and booking them. They book up really quick!

No way!! I wish I had started when I first got engaged (which would have been about 19 months befor the wedding)!! You could do everything from location, envisioning your ceremony, colors, reception... getting that out of the way will make it a breeze later on!!

I don't think you are crazy to start planning now.....Some girls started planning their weddings when they were 12 and others started planning after their first kiss Mr. Right! JK

This just means you'll be more organized and prepared than some of us who planned only 3 months ahead :)

I think there are lots of things you can do...think about a color scheme, start looking at places. Narrow down a region and then start to research specific hotels and resorts. I have found that working with a travel Agaent is best. I went with Destination Weddings.com They have for the most part been really good.

I would recommend to wait on looking for your dress. I got mine early on, and now wish I had waited a bit. I see so many other dresses I like, but since I pulled the trigger, there is no turning back! I feel kinda stuck. I really loved my dress when I first got it, but now when I see other's (and you will on this site) it makes me wish I had waited. Oh well. And the fashion seasons will be changing soon so all the new styles will be coming out. You will have that happen a few more times over the course of your engagement.

Good luck! And congrats! Enjoy!

Its never too early! We are getting married may 2010, and we started planning this time last year!!

Means when the time comes to book photographers, buy dresses, choose colours, you will have had plenty of time to change your mind, and so your choices, should, be right! So in theory, there should be less stress! cheesy.gif

good luck planning lady!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
