His price was really reasonable (about $1,000 including his travel costs). We were only 2 - no guests at all so he reduced the price just a little bit for us instead of his full rate. We just go the CD of pics - close to 400 I think - because shipping albums, etc is just too expensive from Jamaica.

 

We also got a video of our wedding since we had no guests. His name is Roxroy Gough and he was great. Again, the price is very reasonable. It's just a short video but because we had no one there to take other pictures for us, we opted for the video and don't regret it at all.

We narrowded it down and then went from there. Lady Hamilton is really nice and so is the Iberostar but both we found a little bit pricier. We ended up with Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica in Runaway Bay and loved it!! We got married October 20th and had a blast!!

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of planning my destination wedding and am having trouble choosing a resort! Originally we wanted to book at Iberostar Grand Rose Hall for our wedding... however, I'm not too sure anymore because of the wedding cost...not so much the actual resort cost! My big concerns for a wedding are A. Destination Wedding B. Wedding Dress C. Amazing pictures *preferably from a professional photographer*! But now that I'm really looking into everything I'm starting to wonder if this is the right resort for our DW! Any other "elopers" out there that had the same issue? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

we did look at Iberostar and along with Lady Hamilton and the costs really were higher. we ended up at Gran Bahia Principe and don't regret one single minute. the whole experience was more than we could have hoped for and they really did treat us like royalty. to anyone that asks, I would recommend GBPJ absolutely without hesitation.  we ended up being only 2 and it was wonderful.

We are getting married at Sunset Beach in Montego Bay based on recommendations and reviews I have read from others on the board.  We needed a kid friendly place that was affordable for us as well as our guests.  Anyway, have you looked at Sunset at the Palms?  The wedding is free and the location looks lovely.

Hello everyone!! I am in need of some assistance.  I am getting married in Jamaica in 2 months!! It is almost time for us to send our documentation to the resort but I am having a lot of trouble understanding exactly what I need to send. I understand the following documentation needs to be sent if applicable:

 

 

For Civil & Religious weddings in Jamaica

• Notarized copies of Birth Certificate.*Must have full names and last names of the couple and parents as well.
• Notarized copies of Passports or driver’s license.
• Notarized Documents stating name changes (if applicable).
• Notarized, written parental consents (if under 21 years of age).
• Notarized copies of divorce papers (if applicable).
• Notarized copies of death certificate (if applicable).

 

The part I am having an issue with is the notarized birth certificate and the notarized divorce papers (my fiance was married once before). We both have a certified copy of our birth certificates. Do I make a copy of our copy and send that to the resort? I asked a notary about getting something like that notarized and apparently it is illegal to have such a document notarized. She said we could make a copy of our passports/drivers license and she would notarize that, but she wouldn't touch the other documents. I emailed the resort for clearification and am now even more confused. Can anyone assist me with this?

You make a copy of the birth certificates, divorce papers, and the passports and have the "COPIES" notarized.  The notary would just state that he/she has seen the originals and that they certify your copy to be a legitimate.

For the purposes of ID only, pdf your birth certifictates, passports and final divorce decree and send them down by email.  they will accept those as your documentation to start you marriage licence process.  you will definitely need a copy of your passport notarized that you will take with you to leave in Jamaica with the Registrar of Marriages.  they will require an original divorce decree with a seal on it when you arrive there and you will bring the notarized passport copies at the same time. we each had an original birth certificate that we took to our lawyer and he notarized a copy of it and we took those to Jamaica again to leave there for the Registrar, but if what you have is already a certified copy, you cannot certify a copy of a certified copy. you would need to leave the certified copies in Jamaica so take those with you.  we just received our marriage licence original last week from an October 20th wedding, but they had given us a copy of the registration to bring home in case there was anything we needed it for but that won't work for changing your name.

Thanks for the info ladies!! So basically we should request another certified copy of both our birth certificates and his divorce papers so that we can leave a copy in Jamaica? Oh, and this is probably a dumb question but we do not have to get a marriage license here in WI correct? They will do all the paper work in Jamaica?
