Dreams Tulum Closure (consolidated thread)

Recommended Posts

To: "Cant' Wait"

We have a group of 20 guests. Others waited until recently to book the rooms, and now they can't do it...

I called the resort this morning, spoke to Anabel who said that they should know by Tuesday what will happen with weddings after Nov. 15th.

Let's hope we find out where we will end up...

They are loosing TONS of money on this so they have to be careful and take things week by week. They are being quite proactive now by moving everyone through mid November to give some piece of mind to all brides in the next 3 weeks.

Also they have been answering emails and sending updates.

And they have been doing a terrific job of relocating brides. In the past couple days we have had 5 of our brides on this forum relocated (in fact I don't think anyone with a wedding prior to Nov 15 is still waiting relocation) Plus they have informed all of you of your choices (and they have provided more choices than what they originally said) so that you can do your research now and when the time comes you can make a more informed decision.

I understand it's frustrating not to have solid answers for those of you who are farther away, but honestly, what can we expect them to do? They would give you answers if they had answers to give! So it sucks for them as much as you brides to be.

While they handled this horribly in the first couple weeks (i.e. brides having to find out about this on here rather than through them) they seem to have gotten their act together in the past week or two. Honestly, I don't think we can expect that much more for them, the situation is outside of their control. They could be doing a bit better on the communication (i.e. making sure all employees are sending out consistent emails) but overall they are doing a decent job.
Sorry if it seemed like I was attacking you SandyW (or anyone else). That was certainly not my intention but reading it over again I can see how it seemed that way. I guess I was just trying to remind you guys to think positive thoughts by pointing out that things have improved a lot since the beginning. Obviously you are still allowed to complain as much as you want because this is a really shitty situation, I was just trying to help you think positively. And also to remember that the resort is doing everything it can.

I know it sucks when they say "we'll have news next week" and then next week becomes the week after, and they keep saying that without giving you any real news besides the fact that they are relocating more brides. It sucks that the news so far has never been good, but at least they are giving updates, and telling you pretty much everthing they can since the situation is out of their hands. It's impossible for them to give a definite date of re-opening, which is what you all want obviously.

Does anyone know - out of all the resorts that were closed during the summer (for the same reason) have any of them succesfully reopened? We have heard that the other resort which was closed the same day as DT (Euro something or other) is half open, but what about the others that were closed several months ago?

Well said Sunbride, it's very easy for things written to be misconstrued. It's a frustrating situation for all the brides, and I can see how it helps to have a place to "vent" where others share your frustration and then Sunbride you have contributed a wealth of information to this forum so I could see how you would want to shed a positive light on the situation.

Funny thing though, it took me months to decide on Dreams Tulum for my June 22, 2009 DW but when I called to confirm my date it was already taken. I was so bummed out to find out that my date was no longer available and I am not at all flexible with my date. I found that out a few days before all of this closure stuff, so a part of me felt "saved" from this mess.... but I have been following all of this as if I am getting married at DT because I was going to push my date up by one whole year just to have my DW here! I guess I'm hoping that this is all resolved soon that all of you brides can have the place you want and me too.... someday!

i'm confused by this last post. i don't think i have ever posted on this thread saying anyone's post was outlandish or that anyone's feelings about the closure is not valid.

i was just giving advice that if you have questions or concerns about your wedding and/or the relocation, call dreams tulum. i do and they have been great about answering the phone and calling back.

Ladies who are getting married mid to late November. I just wanted to tell you to hang in there. I was sooo cranky last week before I got the phone call. I kept telling my FI, I just want to know... it is ok to move at this point, but I just want to know where we are getting married. So, I know these will be very stressfull weeks for you. The whole limbo sucks. So, I just wanted to say... I understand, went through it, and it will get better. :)

Hang in there everyone, we are all stressed and feeling bad and unsure right now. I we will feel better once we arrive at the hotel, meet with the coordinator, and get a big fat drink in our hands. :) Sometimes I catch myself so cought up in this that I forget I'm getting married. Shit, we are GETTING MARRIED!! Woohooo!

Good luck to everyone!

Where do you see rooms available? Because I checked at Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, and there was nothing available. Our travel agent at 'vacationsbyplaza' also checked, and saw nothing available. I just called 866-2DREAMS and was told that they cannot book rooms for the end of November and that I should check with the wedding coordinator. I asked Anabel about this last week, and she was not sure whether there aren't rooms available or it's just that the resort is not allowing to book until the issues are resolved. Please let me know if you have any other information. Thanks, B.

i know with expedia/orbitz they dont want to deal with the closure so they most likely took the inventory off.

weird that dreams told you to call WC. i just booked a room for one of the brides on here for 11/25-11/28. i just had someone call the gal in the sales dept that i always use. maybe have your TA call the sales dept.

pm me the dates that you are looking for and i can see if they are available.

Hey Ladies!

I have a quick question... Im totally lost and confused about who to contact regarding our wedding now...

I know when it was Landy for Dreams Tulum , but should I contact the wedding coordinator for Barcelo now? or should I still be asking Landy questions and making my requests thru her?

Ive tried Landy and Sandra and Lizette a couple times now, with no response, and thats to be expected seeing as their working their butts off to relocate other brides and what not...

Should I just contact Barcelo's wedding coordinator and hope for the best?

Thanks :)

I would think that you "should" go through the DT coordinators since they travel to the other resorts to take care of the weddings, but if you are really having trouble getting a hold of them, it can't hurt to email the Barcelo coordinator, especially for questions like restaurant/menu options, ceremony location etc. Worst case scenario she tells you to contact DT or you get no response at all right?

P.S. I would CC DT on those emails

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
