DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies, I've been reading through your thread and Dreams PV sounds great! We've were planning our wedding for November for the Azul Sensatori in Mayan Riveria area for the past 8 months... and then whoops... found out I was pregnant and due around the exact same time as our wedding. The Azul was unable to honour the rate for April 2011, so we started looking elsewhere. Our TA came back with a few new options and so far Dreams PV is #1 on the list. So far from the posts and planning thread reviews, I think we've decided. I'm unfortunately going to torture my TA with a long list of questions my FI and I have come up with but I just want to ensure we are making the best decision for us. The first time around, I felt extremely pressured by our TA to book with Azul - of course.. she had all these "special" things they do for her.

Anyways ladies, I'm hoping we make our decision in the next couple days... you seem to have some very experienced past brides on here with wonderful pictures and reviews! I look forward to getting hooked on this thread!

Crista

I thought the forum was supposed to be a place where people can converse and ask questions. Not just read. There are (currently) 105 pages to this site with countless years of advice/experiences. I read through it all when I was sick. It took hours. I think you'll agree with me that some of the information that was true/relevant 2+ years ago may not still be accurate, so going back to review posts may be helpful, but it doesn't mean that it will completely answer the question. If it bothers you so much that people keep asking questions about the same thing, then I question why you continue to be on the board 2+ years after you got married. If it's to help people, then you may want to change your approach.
if you actually read the question that was posed, you'll see that Jen&Derek was looking for some pictures of set up. i'm pretty sure that unless you can go back in time, those haven't changed.
there might not be 105 pages here if people actually read the thread rather than asking questions that have been answered several times. if you notice, i don't tell people to search for answers to questions that haven't been answered, or search for things that might have changed. i agree that many things have changed....however, if you've actually read through, you'll notice that the same questions are asked over and over - menu, decor, where to have the ceremony/reception - and those answers have remained the same. here is a link explaining reasons to search: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...edition-14777/
i could question your motives on this board as well...if you're not satisfied with my answers or this thread - which you're obviously not, as you've only posted on the entire board a total of three times in the 16 months you've been a member - one of which was wasted posting a snarky comment to me (and yet you've stated that this is a place to converse...?), then don't bother reading.

Here comes some of my random questions for you (hope you don't mind and other past bride feel free to jump in....)

For your private dinner at Portofino did you make reservations a head of time with Rebeca or with Portofino directly? Was it the same menu for dinner or was it a special menu?

Bonfire... Did you have to pay extra for the waiter or was that included in the fee? (I think Rebeca told me like $250 or $300 for the bonfire)

Ceremony.... was it really hard to walk on the sand/bamboo path? I am so worried I am going to fall on my face! Was it just a bamboo mat or was there something else underneath? Also did you use a microphone for your ceremony....I

i was barefoot - wasn't going to take the chance of falling on my face. my dress just hit my toes and when i sunk into the sand, it was a tad too long, so keep the sinking in mind. there was a mat, and i don't remember if it was easy to walk on - i was too nervous!

we did have a mic - at one point there was feedback and our minister compared the shock of it to a car crash at 70mph....wtf.gif

Cocktail Hour... OK so I am debating on even having the Mexican trio (even though it comes with the package)... How long did they play for- I think they said it comes with one set.. but how long is a set?

Also did your cocktail hour last the whole hour or was it actually shorter...

it was an hour - we were there for the last 2 minutes of it. though we didn't really hear it, we were told that the trio was fabulous - a great way to welcome people into the reception area. just think though - otherwise you need to provide an extra hour of music (either dj or ipod/cd) - if it comes w/ it, why not?! they played for an hour exactly.

Excursions... did you book everything before hand or did you do it through the company that provided the transfers when you got there? Do you remember roughly how much the fishing trip was?

we booked the canopy tour once we got there. dh went on a tequila tasting off roading tour - booked that there too. there are plenty of opportunities to book there; i don't believe booking beforehand will give you a big discount, but that might have changed....

Thanks again for all your help..... what would I do without the forum ... =)

Thanks Lauren... Super helpful as always!

I think we are going to defiantly go with the trio after reading all the great reviews... Plus it is one less hour to rely on the DJ.

Also good point about the tours... probably won't save anything and we can get a better feel for what we want to do.

she makes remarks like this because she's right.

yes, this forum is here to provide brides with information, but if these brides continue to ask the same question over and over, then this forum becomes cluttered and less useful. as a moderator, one of my jobs is to try to keep duplicate posts to a minimum and encourage members to search before posting a question that has likely been asked before. but we also rely on members like lauren, especially those who have been around for a while, to do the same.

perhaps this thread wouldn't be so long if people tried searching first? for example, you could have searched for what you were looking for rather than reading this whole thread. or, you could have started at a certain point in time by looking at the date.

if it bothers you that we discourage people from asking the same question multiple times, then may i suggest you find a forum that is run to your liking.

Ann! I didn't realize that you are preggers too! Congrats!

I also want to say thanks to the mods and the members who make BDW a great resource for B2Bs. I would not have had the fabulous wedding that I did without them! And I wouldn't have been so encouraged to start up my own little biz without this forum. Hugs y'all cheer2.gif

Allyson ~ I would def use the trio. They played at Oceana during dinner and everyone loved them. I was so happy when I got to the cocktail hour and the same guys were playing there! As for the DJ, when you get to Dreams you might try talking to Jose Luis the bartender at the Preferred Tower Lobby Bar. He is young and way too nice, but tried to convince us to request one of his friends to DJ, but I thought he was just trying to up-sell me. I honestly believe that his buddy would have done a MUCH better job than the one that Rebecca uses and the guy works at the resort so it was included in the package. Maybe hit up Rebeca to see what your options are as I could be way off.

You know, it may not hurt for you future Dreams brides to be honest with Rebeca and let her know that several past brides have not been happy with the hotel DJ. She is a very reasonable coordinator, and while it may not be in her hands to make a final decision about a change, she'd rather receive positive feedback than complaints from her couples, so I'm sure she'd at least do some inquiring into a possible solution! Sometimes it is better to go straight to the source!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
