Chocolate Brides: Hair Question

Recommended Posts

LOVE the look, mistibuard. Great idea to do a test run. I usually donâ€t wear sewn in weave but plan to for the wedding so maybe Iâ€ll do like you and try it beforehand. I posted my wedding hairstyle here a while ago. Iâ€m not so much worried about how the up-do will look. Iâ€m worried about the days before and after looks. Good thing is I donâ€t swim much so it probably wont get wet.

Hi Ladies!

This thread is wonderful, thank you to all the Chocolate Brides for all their pictures, suggestions and help. Let me start by saying, I have short (above my ears, shaved at the bottom, but trying to grow it out) relaxed hair. Weaves are not an option for me and I am not into wigs (I would SWEAT TO DEATH).

Due to budget, bringing my hairdresser is not an option. Am I the only person on here with this short hair challenge? I am sooo nervous about getting it done in Jamaica but figured Jamaica was a better place than any other non-Chocolate country to get my hair done.

Any suggestions or recommendations on what I should do or who I should contact would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Pretty - where in JA are you getting married? I have a chocolate woman who is going to do both my hair and makeup. She's in Negril. See her info below. And I feel your short hair challenge pain. I too had a really short cut but have since grown it out (for the wedding! Lol). Let us know what you decide. :)

@ Prettie: When is your wedding? If you still have a lot of time, see how far you hair grows b/t now and then. Your options might change as a result. If not, then I would go with a beautician in Jamaica. They know our type of hair and have done so for folks weddings. Talk to people like Lisa who can give you the hook up. All the best!

Thank you! I kept them in a ponytail and washed them. None of them slipped out. I wear microbraids more often than my natural hair so I am used to getting them wet. I think the problem with coming unbraided comes in when the braids are worn down while swimming or washing. Are you thinking about getting your hair braided for your wedding?

Oh woww so pretty I love it!!! I wouldn't have known that they were braids if you hadn't said it lol But yea I'll try to look up some youtube videos of how to do it (split cap)  b/c seriously it is very easy and I am no hairstylist lolol my girlfriend showed me (who also is not a hairstylist) a few years back while I was letting my hair grown back from a short cut and I wore them for a whole year....I did have the edges issue b/c I was gluing the cap to my edges but I figured out a way to keep all the glue on my cap (esp on the sides) and very minimal at the top to reinforce.

Anyway, since this forum has been so helpful to me when I was getting ready for my destination wedding, I figured I should let others know what I did for my wedding hairstyle.  we got married May 2010 at Valentin Imperial Maya in Mexico.  Beautiful place!  I decided to do Invisible braids, but most of them slipped out when I washed them during the vacation!  You cant see the braids in the picture, but I pulled the hair to the side and pinned; curls achieved with flexi-rods and mousse

Thanks Lisa.

I feel the same..I'm not worried about the up-do, I'm worried about the maintenance before and after. So hopefully I'll become very familiar with it over the next 13 weeks before the wedding.

I will stay in touch with you to tell you how everything goes.

Hi Prettysparklie,

I, like Lisa, completely understand that growing out process can be extremely difficult to deal with. Have you talked with your stylist to see what she recommends?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
