Grand Sunset Princess Resort

Recommended Posts

Sunwing got back to us today with three options, they said they can switch us for no charge to the Sandos Caracol, Grand Coba or Rio Yukatan.  I looked into them briefly, not because I feel unsafe at Sunset but more so because I think some of our guests may prefer it, anyway it seems two of the three are downgrades, and the Yukatan looks nice and comparable to the Princess but one of our guests who is flying through ACV can't switch there since that resort isn't serviced by ACV.  So we're going to stick to the Princess after all.  Alejandra also told me its re-opening in full on Saturday.  I also noticed the prices aren't really going down since the blast so I think that means not many have switched their rooms so it should still be near full capacity and a happening resort at the time we go.  The ball is also rolling with Alejandra and she's much more responsive now than when I was frustrated a few weeks ago.  Should have our agreement signed and payment made any day now.

Hi all,

So my wedding is planned for Jan.31st. We have 40 guests booked so far and because everyone booked through different airlines it was going to be too difficult to switch resorts.

Also I have been to this resort last year and loved it.

We did have 12 people staying in the platinum. We have since moved to the Sunset side as I will feel more comfortable and who knows if the construction will be finished by then. I did speak with the resort and they assured me things would be fine by then but thats easier said. Anyway we switched to the Sunset side and I hope that things will all work out!

Mandy,

How did you switch to Sunset?  Did you change tour operators?

I am hoping to stay with GRP if it opens or switch to Sunset if possible as I actually have few guests already booked in Sunset.

Hi,

Yes I was booked through Westjet and switched to Sunwing. Westjet gave me a $150 extra back and then we booked with Sunwing. It was alittle difficult at first but it has worked out. Most of my family and friends have also booked on the Sunset side so it works well.

Im hoping everything will work out, I did look into booking at another resort but it wasnt going to work and would have costed many guests $500 to switch.

Since I've been to this resort before I wasnt wanting to move, I hope that by the time we go everything will be good!

I hope this helps, if you have any questions let me know!

hello,

I am working with destinationweddings.com for the booking of my rooms and working with the details of the wedding was with patricia now i hear someone named Alexandria. Haven't actually spoke with her as of yet. Couldn't get her to reply to any of my 7 emails that i have sent over the past two months. But my wedding coordinator through Destinationweddings.com got in touch with her she is the one that old me my new wedding coordinators name and that she would be in touch with me. Im not sure exactly who told her about the closing all i know is i got an email stating we just got word from GRP that the resort has been closed w/o a reopening date as of yet. She suggest to me that i should start to look at other locations, so that is where i am right now. Its a huge headache trying to find something close to GRP group rate that they had given us and that also offer kids free. I have 5 kids attending my wedding and alot of resorts do not offer the free kids. We are now looking at Bavaro Princess Resorts in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It looks like they have the same packages as GRP. They also have the option to have the private reception on the boat. Their rates are a couple of dollars cheaper, they just don't have the swim up suites. Waiting on coordinator to confirm they have my date available. If so this hotel might be a go. Wish me luck as i will be wishing you some as well!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
