If there is ribbon on the cake, it is usually just pinned on the back. So if you take the pin out, you can cut your cake from that point. The ribbon, normally, doesn't get in the way and is pretty easy to put on and take off. Hope that makes sense!

My only concern is how do you cut a cake that has ribbon around it...I assume you "cut" the cake for pictures and everything then take all the ribbon off to cut for guests.
