Are there any past brides out there that ran into rain on the day of the wedding?  My WC hasn't mentioned anything about a back up location in the event it rains (or hurricanes-my wedding is October 20th) during our wedding and I'm hoping there is someone out there that could share their experience.

It just depends on where you're planning on having your reception. If I remember correctly the backup for Coral Beach was a banquet hall. However the backup for Colonial Beach was one of the open air grills (one of the reasons we ended up choosing Colonial)

We got married October 8th and the weather was beautiful all week. Don't sweat it!

I came across this posting from hrcahill. She did an amazing post and also posted pictures of her indoor open grill ceremony due to inclement weather. For more info, visit http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/barcelo-maya-palace-deluxe-all-inclusive/reviews/6313 Hope that helps!

Hello!! We haven't officially booked yet but Barcelo is our top choice at this time. We are interested in the Mint Breeze package and it says that groups bigger than 11 guests will be extra. Do you know how much extra per person? Also it says that guests not staying at the same resort must get a day pass. Do you know if that is the case for people staying at the other Barcelo (not Palace Deluxe)?

Thanks for the answers. :)

Congrats! I am also doing the Mint Breeze package. The package includes 20 guests, and it is $27/per person for each additional guest (over 20). I think the 11 guests you are talking about is where it says if you have less than 11 people you have to have your reception at a semi-private restaurant instead of a banquet room. It explained it better in the 2012 wedding package document.

I believe that guests staying at any of the Barcelo resorts do not have to pay a guest pass if your wedding is at the Palace and they are not staying there. Any wedding guests staying outside of the Barcelo resort have to pay a guest pass for your wedding. I can't remember how much it is and if I am wrong about this please someone correct me! :)

I do know that if you are not staying at the Palace and want your ceremony at the Palace Gazebo you have to pay $15 per person to use it for your ceremony. We are one of very few of our party staying at the Palace and having our ceremony at the Gazebo and we don't have to pay any fees because we are there. Otherwise there are no other new fees I know of.

Cheers!

If your ceremony is at the Palace, then you and your fiance need to stay at the Palace.  Your guests can stay anywhere at Barcelo and not pay a day pass, however, I have heard that non-Palace guests are not allowed to use the Carey bar between the ceremony and reception while they wait.  If you have guests not staying at Barcelo, then they do need to pay a day pass.  We had one couple stay in Playa Del Carmen and they had to pay a day pass.  The only problems we had with that is that the guards would not allow them entrance to Barcelo even though our wedding coordinator had contacted them in advance and gave them the names of our guests to allow them access.  This was the day before our wedding for our welcome dinner so for our wedding day, we made quite certain that the guards were aware of our guests and allowed them access.  So keep that in mind in case any guests decide not to stay at Barcelo.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
