Reception Ideas (Beach vs. Booking the Disco)

My finance and I are getting married at the ROR on February 17th 2009, and we are the last wedding of the day! I am a little confused on how the reception works. What do most people do? Would you recommend booking and paying for the Disco or doing a Beach Reception? Would you bring your own music, hire a DJ, for the dance part? I guess I have no idea what the reception entails!

You can really do anything you want. I am having the wedding on the beach and the reception off the (sand) but still overlooking the ocean under a palapita. We are having a DJ, food, alcohol.. the whole shebang! I think thats what pretty much everyone does, but like I said its your wedding you can do whatever!

I am getting married at the ROR as well in June 09. I am thinking ( def not set in stone) That we will do the ceremony at the beach gazebo, dinner in the steakhouse which is included and then going to the beach bar for drinks and dancing with a DJ. We'll see how that all works out!

i had a beach reception and loved every second of it. it was amazing. the disco is very dark and smelled when we were there. i vote beach reception with a DJ and bartender.

I got married last month at the ROR. We got married at 4p.m. at the beach gazebo. We had our reception at the Seagrape beach bar and it was so much fun dancing in the sand. We had our own music and speakers. One thing...if you bring your own speakers make sure they're good cause the stage for the shows is just above the beach bar. We also had bartenders and they were so much fun.

I think a beach reception would be the most fun, we did the disco b/c the beach party was the night of our wedding and we still had a great time. The disco does smell like smoke when you first walk in but after a few minutes I didn't notice it anymore. I think no matter where you have the reception it will be as fun as you make it!

The most cost effective seems to be the disco, as you pay $250 to rent it and this includes the cost of the DJ and bartender. We were married at the beach gazebo at 4 PM, had the free dinner at Mammee Bay and then moved to the disco at 9 PM and we really had a blast with it! I love to dance and it was a great atmosphere to dance and have fun!

A beach reception would also be really nice but you should price out all the options and judge which is best for you.

For the days that the ROR holds 3 weddings a day, how do they go abouts letting people have where they want to have their reception (like seagrape)..is it first person to request it will get it? Im just worried that I wont be able to get the places I want and its way to early to even request for me yet (April 09 wedding)

I think its first come, first serve for anything besides Mammee Bay. But I wouldn't worry too much about it b/c I think most people that choose ROR go there b/c of the free stuff. While we were there this past april we saw very few receptions that weren't at Mammee Bay. I remember seeing 2 people have the beach bbq and 1 person at the plantation and that was over 10 days.

How to I go about booking things such as the wedding reception, dinner etc? Do I have to wait 2 months prior to the Wedding when the coordinator contacts me?
