Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Thanks Tlseege! Your a wealth of great information!

Any ideas as to which buildings are the best to stay in for Coba? I think the rooms over looking the pool would be best since none of them have ocean views?? Have you been to the Golden Selection, any idea what those rooms are like?

My wedding is also at 4pm...on the beach but Maria didn't say which one..I'm hoping it's the Hammock location. I should probably get Maria to confirm that! So I'm thinking I won't have the cocktail hour...but maybe have everyone meet at a specific bar or location after the pictures are taking and then the meal would follow shortly after at the Portofino.

Also any ideas for people to get to know one another? Most of our guests will be coming from various hubs in Canada and most will not know one another. I was thinking of asking Maria to set aside a few tables for our group and have a brunch the next morning so we can hand out the OOT gift bags/ mugs and give everyone a guide of a few events that we have planned. That way if people want to come they are more then welcome, but it's their vacation too :)

Thanks,

Adel

So, the pool rooms... activity pool is loud.  Jacuzzi pool has wedding receptions.  I would aim for the quiet pool area.  Cheryl was in villa 24 if i remember correctly and it was very centrally located and just steps from the pool which, to me, seemed pretty awesome.  We were in villa 9 which was quite a walk... or in our case a run (it rained a lot) to anywhere.  We like walking... and apparently running in the rain... so we didn't mind muhc.

Maria will have your guests meet at the main lobby at 5:20 to take them to your 5:30 dinner... or whatever the time may be.  So I would recommend the lobby bar for your guests to hang out after the ceremony.

We stayed in Villa 25 (golden section) and it was ideal, close to everything. On the wedding night we had our dinner at Portofino, followed by the poolside reception at the arrecife jacuzzi pool and it was perfect being so close to those. The golden section rooms are the same as all of the others, we had a mini fridge that was stocked daily (maybe that's the extra) and you have access to the golden lobby (which serves the best drinks and is a great place to sit around for a few drinks at night - much quieter and less crowded than the main lobby.)

I would HIGHLY reccemend the welcome brunch. For us they set aside tables in the corner of the main buffet (you'll never get them all together if you don't have them reserved) and they gave us our own waitress. We gave out our OOT bags and we brought down scrapbooking letters and stickers to decorate the cups (they were all the same, and we didn't want them getting mixed up) and this brought the group together completely. It was one of the highlights of my trip!

Also Fraggle42 - If it is in your budget.. have the poolside party, it is very worth it.. We had the cheapest bar option ( $11 pp for three hours) and they served us everything except red and white wine (only sparkling). It was amazing, many of our guests told us the next day that they were so happy we did that, and they loved it as much as we did! Also Dj Bijan is cheaper than the resort DJ, speaks English perfectly and did a great job for us!

Alright, for normal guests, go with villa 47.  Very centrally located and a gorgeous beach view.

For golden club members, 65-67 are the best :)

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
