Paying for guests?

Recommended Posts

Oh well since you are not having a reception that eliminates a huge amount of costs. I assume that means you are not doing musicians or videographers either. And you probably are not doing flower arrangments and don't need centerpieces so that will save you a huge amount of money. Also you have a smaller amount of guests. This makes a lot of sense now. Cute pic btw.

Were having around 10 people and our wedding is going to cost us around 14k. Were also not having a reception. But that price includes my dress, our travel costs and room, wedding dinner, wedding bands, WC, photographer, flowers, location fee for ceremony and many other little things. I am still working out some details on possibly paying for one guest to go to Cabo, so if that happens it will increase our cost even more.

We will have a dinner in one of the restaurants (and I realize it will not be a private dinner, and that's ok with us) at the Riu Palace Macao. There is no set up fee (that I am aware of---I have asked my coordinator and she said that there was none). Thanks so much for everyone's help!
Good luck with your planning, I am sure everthing will turn out beautiful!

We are paying for my brother, SIL, and niece's airfare and accomodations, and my mom & dad's airfare. Added to our accomodations, we are spending almost $12k on travel alone. We're hoping to come in somewhere around $16-18000 total, not including rings or dress.

Unlike almost everyone on here, I am considering paying for some or all of my guests... I just feel so bad that I am asking them to pay so much to attend my wedding.

It will depend on how the budget comes along... we'll see. But we have about 15000 dollars, so if I can keep the budget under that, I can use the extra to pay for the guests rooms.

I'm not announcing it though for a while, until I get closer and make sure my budget can cover it.

Since I'm never going to pick a place anyway, it doesn't matter... sad.gif

The only guests that we are paying for is my future MIL and part of SIS costs. Like you, we thought that it was going to be around $6,000, but we're finding that it will be closer to $12,000. After all of the suggestions, my list keeps growing. My FH is about to have a heart attack though.

ATJORGENSON: I notice your profile mentions the Quad Cities---- as in IA? (I was born there and have family in the IC/CR area that I see a couple times a year)...

As for the budget thread, I am extremely simple and practical. We have about $12K to spend if we want to on travel/wedding/reception. My plan is to spend about $4K on a 10 day AI stay, and at most $5K for the rest (including attire, but not including rings). I was an art major in college, so a lot of stuff I can do myself like flowers, altho transporation is the issue there, as well as invites, monograms, table cards, place cards, etc... Since the photography is a large portion of the budget, I'm torn between loading my equipment and even doing that myself with a tripod for the formal photos and then just have family take the ceremony/reception photos for us.

I think it can be done, it just depends on how many people you expect to have at the wedding and how fancy you want it. We're having about 30 people and since I'm not in too much of a rush, if we don't have all the money to do things the way we want, we'll just postpone for awhile...

Yeah, I'm sure that will happen to us too...

Plus, I was just instant messaging with a friend of mine, and she was pointing out that most people end up paying for flights/hotels to go to weddings in the states anyway, like she lives in San Fran, and even friends getting married nearby in the wine country require a hotel you know?

Margaret everytime my FI and I go to a wedding even 20 minutes away we stay in a cheap hotel b/c we like to drink and party and we will never drive drunk. Almost all of our friends do this also. When we do this it's like $200 the night (for a crappy cheap motel/hotel looking thing). If I go to someone's engagement party I end up buying $100 gift off their registry then I do the same for their bridal shower. Then for the wedding the sort of rule of thumb here is $150 per person. Then if you go to the bachelorette party you are pretty much out another $200. And then whatever we spend on a dress and getting mani-pedis. So the average wedding here will cost a guest $1,000 (assuming their a closer friend and you go to all their wedding related parties). So we feel like if you would have spent a $1,000 on our wedding here anyway you might as well use it towards cabo and get a fun vacation! BTW what resorts have you narrowed it down to? We have to help you make a decision soon. Tell me the places you are torn between, I will do research tonight for you and then I will post a thread where we will all vote for you where you should have it.
