When we got engaged, we never even considered having a wedding in NJ or NY...it never came up in conversation, we didnt visit any places...it was more like "what country should we get married in?" then we took it from there.
I always talked about a DW but once we got engaged I got scared of the idea since we have big groups of family and friends. After looking around, we decided that the DW was our best option bc it'd be about making US happy and not our guests lol

I was originally planning a traditional wedding with 125 guests. We were going to go to The Merion in Cinnaminson. The cost for the Saturday wedding reception would have been $21,000 and a Friday would have been $19,000...how ridiculous. We have sonce decided to go to Riviera Maya Mexico. We will go for 7 days pay for our mom's and our wedding and still pay less then $10,000!!!!! It's outrageous the cost for 1 night in Jersey compared to 7 nights in paradise!!

I thought it was possible didnt beleive all my recent bridezilla friends who managed to do it so i started putting numbers together and almost passed out.. NJ is a corrupt state everything is so overpriced here especially weddings... So it was a no brainer off to Cancun!! It didnt help that the list just kept growing and growing if we had a wedding here..

I am from Jersey City but currently reside in good ol' Hoboken...

So lets get to know each other! I'm Jenny and I live in Monmouth County.. Freehold

My name is Tracy. I'm from Monmouth County- Manalapan moving soon down to Manahawkin in Ocean County. We're having a DW because I could not possibly handle planning a huge wedding at home. Plus a DW is more affordable and fun in my opinion.

I've noticed in a lot of other threads there are quite a few of us NJ brides. Maybe we can organize a get together like some of the other areas. I'm the only one of my friends and family to attempt a DW and this site has kept my sanity. I am now fully addicted and can't get enough. Looking forward to hearing from some other local ladies.

Hi Tracy! (That's my sister's name, LOL)...

I was born in Rahway, grew up in Elizabeth and then moved to the sticks of Hunterdon County for high school. Now I live in Lyndhurst, but work in NY...

I'm getting married at Dreams Punta Cana in about 8 weeks! This site has been so helpful (and stressful). We chose a DW after attending a friends DW. It was so simple and easy...no fuss, no arguing...you just show up and POOF! it's your wedding!!

After finding this board and seeing how so many girls buy and plan everything I got super nervous. I thought there was NO WAY I was going to be able to do all of this in such a short amount of time. Then I realized that I don't have to do what they do!! I can just show up and POOF! have my wedding LOL...it's my choice to do it that way! While I would LOVE for it to be as gorgeous and perfect as some of these girls are planning, I know that I don't have the time to put into it to make it that way. So I'm having a fabulous photographer fly in to get tons of photos of our family having a great time and not worrying about what fabric my tablecloths will look best in. I figured the WC at the AI is a professional and will make my DW gorgeous...

I did have a NJ wedding though. I needed my dying grandfather to be at my wedding, so we did our legal ceremony the end of January in his living room. He passed away March 11 and called me in the room one last time to tell me how special it was for him and what an honor it was to be able to be a part of it. So I think I had the best of both worlds...an impromptu NJ wedding (put together in under 24 hours--complete with a judges order for a marriage license) AND a fun, fabulous DW ceremony...

WOOHOOO!!!

There are a lot of NJ girls planning right now, so a meet up would be super fun!!

I live in Freehold too - why have I missed this thread till now? i'm happy to see other Jersey Girls on here!

We're having a DW because FI and I have both been married before and both had big Jersey weddings the first time and didn't want to spend the $, or invite 200 people that we don't really care about. This way we only had to invite a few people and say "we're only inviting closest family and friends" and not have to worry about planning such a huge event. My parents are making us an AHR when we get back, but even that is only going to be 40ish people - mostly those who couldn't come to the wedding, and a few of their friends.

I live in Hopewell Township. We never even looked at a venue in NJ. The prices are ridiculous in NJ and I've seen ALL my friends do it and had no interest. I wanted to elope, but my mom had a fit about it so this was the best of both worlds!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
