ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

So glad to hear you had a good trip.  and SO happy the Blue Parrot was a lot of fun! We were thinking of doing a post reception party there also. Let me know if you find anything out about booking something there after.  HAHA and glad to hear all you have to do is tell them your going to spend a lot of money on drinks and let the cover slide !

Our photo session was awesome, Ivan and his wife were a ton of fun to work with and he has a great eye for color and beauty, as well as a great sense of humor.  We definitely took some funny photos along the way.

Also, the Blue Parrot is AWESOME!!!  Ryan and I scouted it out last night as a possible "post reception" venue and we had a BLAST.  Forget what I said about "low key beach town feel."  It was definitely a club hopping party along Calle 12, which is just a few blocks from the resort and perpendicular to Avenida 5.  There were many clubs blasting music and competing for our business, and lots of people out and about.  Also, the Blue Parrot hosts daily fire shows M-W at 12:00 midnight and 11 and 1 Th-Fri, which will definitely appeal to the old folks.  SO fun.  The music was hoppin, top 40 danceable stuff.  Everyone was having a great time.  We promised the waiter outside we'd buy a ton of drinks and didn't have to pay the $10 cover.  CocoBongo's is nearby too, and they advertise bottle service, for folks looking to reserve something in advance online.  I might see if Blue Parrot can do something similar and get back to you all!

Also, ladies...trendy flat sandals are all the rage here, paired with cute, clubby cotton dresses or miniskirts.  I am barely seeing anyone in heels.  I think between the sand and the brick streets, its just not what anyone wants to deal with.  Now if I could only get my 6'8" fiance and his very large family to shrink a bit...

P.S. we booked Bluelens photography.  The pictures are awesome! one of the owners (Mirko) does the shooting if you request him, and they have the pictures ready for you to review with in 36 hours of your wedding. Oh and the TTD pictures in the cenote look like their going to be a lot of fun!  You can't beat their prices either.  They worked with us and customized a package that fit our budget.  message me if you want more info.  elefant.gif  So excited the elephant shows my happy dance hehe !

Hmmm that's a good question. I am telling all my guests that the tables light up, because it shows that they do. I wonder why they didn't do that for Di's. Good call on the table runners, I was going to order some but now maybe I won't. What time is your reception at? Maybe that has to do with the lights?

Random Photographer Vendor Tip:

While we were out and about shooting our engagement photos along the beach, Ivan and his wife got stopped by some guards (cops?) along the beach.  They told him he cannot take photos on government property for commercial purposes without a permit.  At first they even wanted to charge him a FINE!!!  WTF?!?

Ivan said in all his years of photography, this has never happened to him before.  We learned it was because they were cracking down on all the vendors on the beach that would go up and harass people to buy t-shirts, jewelry, fruit, etc, etc.  So now they've lumped photographers into this group.

It just means photographers now need to apply for a permit to shoot beach photos (doing commercial business on government property?).  Ivan and his wife took down all the info and are going to get their permit, but you might want to give your photographers a heads up about this too, it seems very new.  They could probably get the info from Ivan.

As luck would have it (his name IS Ivan Luckie, after all...) the guard turned out to be a childhood friend of Ivan's brother, so he let us go without any fine and continue our shoot.  Whew!

Jennifer - thanks for letting us know about that. How strange is that? I'm brining my photographer from my hometown with me. That would be horrible if we couldn't take pictures on the beach of our wedding!!! I will definitely let my photog know. You were definitely lucky in that regard!! Can't wait to see your photos.

B2B - has anyone scouted out the areas for their TTD sessions? I've seen tons of small ruins near  playacar and secluded cenotes/beach spots on Elizabeth Medina and Del Sol websites. Does anyone know where these are - actual names? I would love to use Tulum but I've heard you can't take pics - commercials anyway. I know 5th Avenue has pretty neat spots as well. Thanks!! JYD

I searched another thread and came across this response from Ivan Luckie. Thank you Ivan for helping out with TTD locations in the area. I hope this helps someone else out as well.

My dinner reception will start at 6 I think (which should be close to sundown in November). I emailed my WC, so I'll let you know what she says. Is your reception on the beach?

If you're having an outside person do your makeup do you know if they're charging $100 vendor fee? I've heard if they're there less than 3hrs there's no charge.

Thanks!!

I asked my WC about the no charge if less than 3 hours and she said that the $350 vendor fee will be charged if the vendor is not a guest of the resort.

I was told that white linens and lights under the tables are standard. Keep in mind though that the lights won't show on top of the table only the sides (wood top). If you want the lights underneath to show on top you would have to use a vendor to bring in acrylic tables, I don't think The Royal offers them but I could be wrong (I haven't asked about it).

Hmm that was pretty obvious, I don't think anyone expected light to beam up through the top of the table, lol!!!

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
