E-Ring stolen from safe in Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

Recommended Posts

I'm late to this, but WTF was she doing taking a $25k ring with her and then taking it off, that's just dumb!

I feel like her story may be slightly overexaggerated, but maybe I'm wrong.

Also, chlorine isn't good for your ring, I thought maybe she took it off when she went to the pool.

we didn't have any problems with our safes and none of our guests did either, but you girls have made me rethink what we will do next time we go somewhere.

OK... maybe I'm just wierd... but you seriously think I shouldn't wear my WEDDING ring to my WEDDING? that's just totally bizarre to me! I don't care how much it costs... I'm getting married an half of my ceremony revolves arond this never ending piece of jewelry that I will always wear... and you don't even think I should take it? Interesting.

Wear your ring on your wedding day.. Just be careful with it.. Make sure it's insured before you leave, don't take it off unless you have someone that can babysit your ring for you..

The employees at these resorts don't make alot of money, so I guess I wouldn't trust anything that holds value to me at a resort, even in a safe, even if it's just a hanky that was my "something borrowed" from my grandmother that passed away... If it holds value, keep it with you at all times, or like I said, assign someone to hold it for you while your in the water.

Honestly, I don't have a $25K ring, but if I did I'm sure the rock would be pretty obnoxious and noticeable for everyone to see which I think makes you more vulnerable to someone taking it.

If you are going to wear it, I would never take it off, make sure its tight on your finger so it doesn't slide off in the water or heat, and make sure you have insurance that is going to cover you even if you lose it out of the country.

I don't even think I could wear a ring that cost that much on a daily basis because I'd be too freaked out about losing it.

My only point in mentioning leaving the jewelry home is if it is THAT important to you, or THAT expensive, why risk it??

I learned many many years ago from some of my wealthiest clients, you've got the real jewels for certain occasions, and the "looks like real jewels" for traveling. You'd be surprised at how many people do this. Until it happened to me I didn't think it mattered all that much. But I can't count how many earrings I've lost in the ocean (thank goodness they were CZs and not Gram's that were left to me in her will), or how many bracelets have fallen off who knows where. And yes, I know, things can happen anywhere, but I consider the situation and where I'll be before packing my little jewelry bag.

Now I understand obviously it's your wedding and you want your e-ring with you, but if it's something as important as a family heirloom or a ring worth tens of thousands of dollars, that you cherish enough not to let chlorine touch, I'd think seriously before locking in a safe in some hotel.

Like others have said, if you know you're not ever going to take it off, or that its fully insured, ok. That's a bit of security. Just be careful.

It was just a suggestion like I said. Didn't mean to upset anyone. smile124.gif

To be honest, and maybe I am the only one that feels this way, I think it is a bunch of baloney! I bet some of this story did happen. I bet she probably did have a ring go missing but on the other hand, to many things don't add up for me. I would stay or have DH stay an extra day to straighten out the mess. Even if I have to pay a little extra money. Also, why o why did she not mention insurance anywhere? does that mean this lovely person really spent 25000 on a ring and did not think to get it insured? then there are her other complaints, these coupled with the ring, I feel like it is a scam. Just my opinion, I just felt when I was reading it that it seemed phoney. Feel free to tell me that you don't agree but that is what my gut is telling me!

I agree! If you can afford a ring that costs 25K, then you can probably afford to stay for a couple more days to get things taken care of and properly file a police report.
I do have to also say that I never thought about security being able to get into my room's safe until on this site. We always put our passports, cameras, camcorders, etc in it. Now, we will have to come up with a different plan..... AAUUGGHH! What to do with all of that stuff??
My ring, though, will stay ON MY FINGER. (and it is only about 10% of the cost of hers - but it is irreplacable to me!!)

I kinda feel that way too, because really who has poop, feces, whatever go all over the bathroom floor by simply turning on the shower. Ok yes, maybe there were sewer problems but can it get so backed up it gets into shower plumbing? AND if that did happen to me, no way I would just switch rooms. What if you got a new room and stepped into it's shower and the same thing happened.

Too many crazy problems to say it was a "wonderful fantasy wedding" until your ring got stolen. Sounds like a nightmare to me.

I totally agree - I'm sure parts of it are true, but "I'VE BEEN FRAMED!" was my first red flag. Who knows though, that'd suck... but again, I wouldn't bring my 25k ring. I could never afford a 25k ring, but that's beside the point!
