Hi All: We are trying to narrow down photographers & videographers to meet with when we go down on our scouting trip. Has anyone worked with Blue Lens Caribe? Would love to hear feedback as there isn't a lot on the web reviews wise. Since we will have to pay the outside vendor fee, we'd love to have the vendor do both video and photography. Thanks!

As a bride planning my wedding from Florida, I could only pick a photographer based on the pictures they had posted and hope for the best. Choosing El Velo was the BEST decision I made during the entire wedding planning process. For months Stephanie and Andrea spoke with me and eased my fears about the wedding, the price of photography/video, and the weather that could impact the wedding. I probably crossed into bridezilla territory more than once, and they still handled every situation so nicely and with the most professionalism I could have asked for. For example: Literally five days before we left to go to Costa Rica I checked the weather and panicked- it called for 80% rain on the day of my wedding. Andrea tried her best to calm me, and then Juan Carlos, the photographer, called to reassure me that no matter what the weather he would get amazing photos. They were so amazingly nice and scrambled to accommodate a new wedding day that had less of a chance of rain on very last minute notice. Even with all of this craziness it still rained on my wedding day and as Juan Carlos said, he got wonderful photos. I could never have asked for better people to work with. Juan Carlos is an extremely gifted photographer and was AMAZING to work with. He made me feel very comfortable and took every picture I recommended along with many more. He was wonderful with my entire wedding party before the wedding, and managed to stay to the side while getting great photos at the reception. After the wedding, he sent a sneak peek slideshow to me within a week, which was SO nice considering I have friends that didn't see any pictures for months when they got married. I was absolutely floored-These pictures made me look like a supermodel- the man seriously has a gift. I have never ever looked better and unless he's the photographer, I may never look that good in a picture again. From one bride to another- If you are looking for a photographer in Costa Rica, don't even consider anyone else. I am so thankful to the entire El Velo team and would recommend them, especially Juan Carlos, to anyone getting married. They are very reasonably priced (although after seeing the pictures I would have paid 3X the amount I did, that's how amazing they are!), so professional, and their work will leave you with unbelievable memories of your special day. You will LOVE them!

Good morning Brides We are planning our wedding for May 2016 in Cayo Coco, Cuba. I have a meeting set up next week with a photographer at home (Calgary, AB) who is willing to come with us..but as you can imagine it is quite costly. Has anyone had any experience with a local photographer in Cuba that they would recommend? Thanks! Kirsteen

The hours leading up to your wedding can be extremely stressful, but at the same time, those precious moments of preparation before you say "I Do," are also uniquely exciting and beautiful. As a wedding photographer, I can honestly say, these hours of preparation leading up to the ceremony often yield some of my most favorite images of the day. Besides the fact that I think I get to work with some of the sweetest and most beautiful brides and grooms (yep, shameless plug!), I know that prepping my clients for the "Getting Ready" shots I plan to take helps immensely in giving me the opportunity to take photos I know they will love and appreciate when they look back at their Wedding Day. Here are a few tips I share with my couples on ways you can help your wedding photographer take beautiful "Getting Ready" photos on your big day: 1) Get ready in a space that has plentiful window light: Whether you choose to get ready in a hotel room or in the bridal suite at your venue, choose a space that has a good amount of window light -- trust me, your photographer will thank you! Light is the most important factor for capturing beautiful photos -- whether it come in the form of natural light (sunlight) or artificial light (flash or video light). I happen to prefer natural light when it comes to Getting Ready portraits because it gives my images a clean, bright softness that my clients have come to love. A room with natural light coming from a large window source will also be what your makeup artist prefers to use as well. So keep this in mind when you're deciding where to prep and get dressed on your Wedding Day. 2) Clean and tidy up the area where you plan to get ready before your photographer arrives: I know on the Wedding Day the rush of getting hair and makeup done as well as making sure everyone has their dresses and the right accessories can often result in a bit of a tornado effect in the preparation room. And that's totally OK and understandable. But asking some of your bridesmaids to help tidy up the space before your photographer arrives will help your photographer move around freely in the area and also capture clean portraits without any clutter in the background. 3) Set aside the details you'd like your photographer to photograph: If you're one of those brides who's spent months carefully crafting your wedding day look, you'll definitely want your photographer to capture your beautiful details. Give your photographer a helping hand by putting aside these details so when he/she arrives, the items are easy to access and can quickly be photographed. That means doing the following: hanging your wedding dress on a nice hanger (wire hangers do not photograph well, custom hangers are perfect as well as a clean wooden or velvet hanger) putting aside your wedding ceremony and reception shoes gathering your jewelry and garter having all the rings in a box -- engagement ring and both wedding rings a clean invitation and envelope as well as any save the dates your bridal bouquet along with at least 1 bridesmaid bouquet 4) Have the people who are helping you put your wedding gown on (bridesmaids, mom, aunts, grandmothers, siblings) be ready and completely dressed: When it's time for you to put your wedding gown on, anyone helping you get dressed should be completely ready and dressed from head to toe. You will be picture-perfect once your wedding dress is on, and those surrounding you, should look their best too. Anyone helping you get ready on the Wedding Day should be prepared to be part of your "Getting Ready" photos and if you plan on having a wedding album, you will want them to look picture perfect too! 5) Give your photographer a good amount of time for "Getting Ready" photos: This is the most important tip -- because without time, you're not giving your photographer a chance to create the images you want. I realize that timelines can't always be stretched or changed due to venue restrictions or timeframes, but when you do have control of setting your timeline, allow your photographer ample time to work without stress or time crunches. Ideally, I like to begin shooting at least 1.5 to 2 hours before the ceremony to capture "Getting Ready" portraits. This gives me ample time to photograph details (at least 45 minutes), about 15-20 minutes for the bride to get dressed and receive any touch-ups, 15-20 minutes for bride portraits and another 15-20 minutes for the bride to take photos with her bridesmaids. If the couple plans to do a "First Look," then I like to begin shooting 2.5 to 3 hours before the ceremony begins to allow for the big reveal as well as romantic portraits. If you give your photographer time, he/she has a much better chance to deliver the images that will not only tell the story of your day, but also images inspired with creativity that you will love for years to come. * All photos posted in this article are credited to MarieSam Sanchez Photography -- a husband and wife destination wedding photography team. - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Hello everyone, This is my first time "blogging" so here goes nothing. The reasoning for me blogging is to see if I could get any inside tips of what questions I need to ask to make our destination wedding as pain free as possible once we get to the resort and the other is to share some good and bad experiences I've had so far. I wanted to know if anyone has stayed, attended or planned/planning a wedding at the newly opened (Nov. 2015) Secrets Akumal in Riviera Maya and if so what can I expect from the resort itself, your experience's with the wedding coordinators, wedding food, DJ, how to tip the wedding staff, etc... Any honest feedback would be immensely appreciated. I don't always trust the reviews on sites like Trip Advisory. Also, if anyone has any insider tips for upgrades or freebies from the resort would also be great. Let me tell everyone a little about me and my fiancée's experiences so far with planning our destination wedding. First the bad, after making the decision to do a destination wedding we contacted my fiancées high school friend who is a travel agent that works for an independent travel agency (out of respect to my fiancées friend I will not name her agency) that deals with Apple Vacations to help us pick a destination and to book our trip as well be the main travel agent for our guest. She is the one that sold us on Secrets Akumal because of a pre-opening promotional rate. Shortly after hiring her as our travel agent she had some personal issues to attend to and then went on maternity leave after that, but before she left, she handed everything to her "boss" to handle and insured us that we were in good hands. Unfortunately it wasn't. Even though we already paid the resort a non-refundable deposit to reserve our Wedding date, The "boss' kept telling us not to book the trip right away because Apple's charter flights for January from BWI (Baltimore) have not been posted yet and that "if you book your package thru Apple, we would basically getting out flight for free", so we held off on sending out our invitations. After a few weeks went by waiting on the charter information, my fiancée stumbled onto a Facebook post from the resort saying "hurry promotion ends in xx days!!!". We then contacted the agent to notify her of the post but she was of no help as she said oh that's not good and also the charter flights have not posted yet. Because of this my fiancée contacted Apple Vacations and the airlines XTRA airways directly to see what the hold up was. It turned out it was due to contract issues between Apple and XTRA. Long story short, we created a wedding webpage and had to call, text and email everyone that we wanted to attend our wedding and tell them that if you want to attend our wedding you need to contact our travel agent to reserve a room and then either book a flight thru them or book on there own immediately. (this was truly embarrassing and tacky) Luckily enough we have awesome family and friends and they put a deposit down on the rooms thru the agent and booked their own flights. And as our trip approaches we still have to constantly email and call the travel agent to get information and updates out of her. Now for the good: So while still dealing with the above we still need to make arrangements with the hotel for the wedding day and find a DJ, photographer, etc. Due to the fact that we are in Baltimore and the resort is in Mexico, we had to coordinate everything via email, which can be slightly frustrating but overall was pretty painless. The Wedding coordinator at Secrets Akumal Elisa Guadarrama has been great, she helped plan everything down except the photographer, which was not her fault as the photography options that the resort provides were subpar in our opinion. So we decided to look for a local photographer that travels and does destination wedding. So this brings me to our brightest spot of our whole planning experience, our photographer James Berglie of Be Photography in Baltimore, MD. After doing multiple interviews with different photographers we chose James. And I TRUELY TRUELY WISH that we knew about him prior to booking our trip because he can do everything for you, not just photos. Turned out that he is the whole package, he is also a travel agent. If we would've used him as our travel agent and had our guest book thru him, our photos would have been included for FREE. But unfortunately it was to late to do that. Because James was so great, we decided to use him for our engagement photos which I have to say came out great, he even made me look good which is not an easy thing to do. I can't wait to see the photos he'll take at the wedding and how he'll make me look good again. This is basically how our planning has gone so far and I look forward to some feedback and tips as the forums on here have been helpful to us throught this planning process. Thank You Herman

I got married at Xcaret a couple of weeks ago and want to give my highest recommendation for Jhankarlo Photography--he was so so amazing! Here's why: Let me begin by saying that my parents left me behind at the hotel and that had it not been for my two bridesmaids, I never would have made it to the church! My Mom had left the hotel to get her hair done outside the resort and had an emergency but didn't tell anyone. My dress, veil and shoes were in my parents' room, my bridesmaid's dress and daughter's dress were also in there. Mom was nowhere to be found, dad was still in his swimming suit 15 minutes before the bus to go to Xcaret was supposed to be in the lobby. I was locked out! After waiting outside that room for almost half an hour, with my hair and makeup all done--and starting to melt--dad shows up. I ran inside, grabbed dresses, kid and shoes. Flew to my room to give kid bath and get her dressed. Dad was supposed to get on bus to make sure he's be there on time. Mom was supposed to drive me to the church. And so I was left behind. So you can Imagine how I felt. An hour later, I get a message from planner telling me my parents were at the venue already. My bridesmaid managed to get keys to our rented red Jetta from my husband as he was on his way out! Phew! When I got to the bridal suite at the church I was a hot, and incredibly angry mess in gym shorts and flip flops, hauling my dress and veil. I met Jhankarlo when I was almost in tears, and he smiled and said, "Everything's going to be OK. This is your day and it will be beautiful." He and my planner made sure I got the space I needed to have my tequila shot, calm down, and get into my dress. He was extremely professional and respectful, and took a few photos while I finished getting ready. As he took them, he showed me a few shots from his camera and they were incredible. He is not a commercial wedding photographer--he loves manipulating light and movement. And since our wedding was at night, the pictures showed incredible color and details that you'd never see anywhere else. Jhankarlo is an artist and loves what he does. Jhankarlo covered our wedding and reception for 8 hours! For me, having him there made the night so much fun! The music and happiness from our guests also allowed him to feel relaxed and he even got on the dance floor and took amazing pictures of all of us having a great time! The next day, he came to pick us up to do the trash the dress shoot. We spent the first part of the session at Xcaret and then went to the cenote for the water shoot. Photographing under water is much harder than you'd expect, but we all laughed a lot and the pictures that we saw from the camera directly were unlike anything we' d ever seen before. Jhankarlo will climb, turn himself over and will do just about anything to get the perfect angle so the shot comes out beautifully. The value we received from the package we selected far exceded the price and our expectations. We also gained a friend. Thanks, Jhankarlo! We can't wait to see our photos!

Hi Ladies, please help! I'm torn between this two. I like both of their photos. Also, I will be needing videos. Del Sol will be launching their video services and Sarani has been doing video services. I can't decide which on to go to. Any suggestions and past experiences with these vendors would help. Thank you!

I have had a minor hiccup in planning today. My cousin who was suppose to be my photographer has decided to go to Europe with her friends instead of our wedding. This left me in a bit of a pickle considering she is a photography student and this was going to save us ALOT of money by letting her do the photos. Any other Cabo brides out there please help share you photographers and their info?? I need to start comparing so I can try and work this expense into our budget now. Thank you

Resorts Reviews Here is listing of the resorts I've visited in the areaI I have compiled this list of each of their external photographer policies (at the time of our wedding shoot). Please keep in mind their rules change often. You must always confirm permission to have us enter the resort as your external photographers. We are constantly updating this list, so if you don’t see your hotel listed, please send us an Email . Aventura Spa Palace: Upon arriving at the resort the bride was told external photographers were not allowed, but they would make an exception, just once (and we've only been there once). Azul Sensatori: $500USD fee, or minimum 3 nights stay. Barcelo Maya Colonial, Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe, Barcelo Maya Caribe, Barcelo Maya Beach, Barcelo Maya Tropical: Barcelo Maya resorts often change their policies. Most recently we are required to be guests of the hotel for the night. In the past, they have had a $300 fee but have on other occasions completely refused external photographers attending weddings. Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: We were able to access the resort without a problem. The bride took care of details but I believe they were required to purchase day passes for us. Catalonia Yucatan, Catalonia Riviera Maya: Both times we attended we spent the night as guests of the hotel (for a TTD shoot the next day). It is possible you could get away with purchasing day passes only. Either way, we've never had an issue. Ceiba Del Mar: Rules have recently changed. There is no fee to enter the resort, but they do require a copy of all the images taken at the hotel. Dreams Tulum & Dreams Cancun: Day passes only. Entrance is always a breeze. I believe day passes are $45USD but could be double when extending coverage into the evening. Dreams Puerto Aventuras: Required we have a room booked for the evening, staying as guests of the hotel. Dreams Riviera (Porto Morelos): Recently, this resort has changed their vendor policy and is asking for a 30% commission fee. They would like us to add this to our prices and pay them directly. We do not hide costs from our brides and the base price for each of our packages is the same to be fair to everybody. El Dorado Seaside Suites, El Dorado Royale: $500USD fee or minimum 3 nights stay at the hotel. Excellence Riviera Maya: Day passes required. Excellence Playa Mujeres: Day passes required Gran Bahia Principe Akumal, Gran Bahia Principe Tulum, Gran Bahia Principe Coba: We have shot here twice, as exceptions to their rule. Recently they have stopped allowing external photographers on the premises. They offer one local photography company for use at your wedding. Since they do make exceptions, it is worth asking your wedding coordinator but I believe their rules have gotten more strict lately. Grand Coco Bay: No fees, no problems. Gran Porto Real Playa del Carmen: Day passes required. Entrance is never a problem. Grand Palladium White Sands, Grand Palladium Kantenah, Grand Palladium Colonial, Grand Palladium Riviera Maya, Grand Palladium Royal Suites: Required we spend the night. Grand Riviera Princess, Grand Sunset Princess: Day passes required for each of us. Evening passes required past 5 or 6pm. They are/were $45 each. Iberostar Paraiso Beach, Iberostar Pariso Lindo: Mixed answers. We have shot there approximately 4 times. A couple times they required we spent the night, and the others were told we weren't allowed but they would make an exception. Maroma Resort & Spa: Completely welcome here. No charge. ME Cancun & Beach Palace: Permission was not an issue although I'm not sure if there was a fee at all. Either day passes, or nothing at all. Moon Palace: We haven't heard a straight answer to this question yet. We have shot there twice now and haven't had a problem. We do require brides are upfront with the wedding coordinators and specify we are local photographers. We've had to spend the night twice and most recently we are only required to have a day pass. They have their own photographers on location and push hard for you to use them. From experience here, if your package includes video and photography there will be ALOT of photographers fighting for space. If you hire us it is best to cancel the photographer included in your Moon Palace package. Occidental Grand Xcaret: Day passes required. Ocean Turquesa: Originally the bride was told she couldn't have external photographers but when she mentioned she wouldn't be booking her wedding there without us, they quickly bent the rules. We required day passes and accessed the resort without a problem. Paradisus Riviera Maya: Day passes required. RIU Palace Riviera Maya: $100 fee per photographer Royal Playa Del Carmen: $100 fee per photographer Secrets Maroma Beach: Day passes required. Entrance is never a problem (and we love shooting at this resort!!) Sandos Playacar: Another "exception". Bride was originally told "yes" but upon arrival was given another story. The wedding coordinator said we were not allowed, but they would make an exception. The Royal Playa del Carmen: Day passes required. Entrance is never a problem. In conclusion, there is usually an exception to every rule here in Mexico. If you ask before confirming your wedding they'll be more likely to bend the rules for you. We ALWAYS require the couple to contact their wedding coordinator for permission. This listing above is based on our experience but here you just never know. Please contact the resorts directly to confirm their policies. Lincoln Lehmann http://momentsthatmatterphotography.com/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Moments-that-Matter-Photography/18683524486

Our Las Ventanas destination wedding in Cabo was a dream come true. There was no detail left undone, and our photographer Juan Carlos was there to capture every priceless moment! He was wonderful to work with and we chose him because of his unique artistic eye. We wanted pictures that captured the emotion of the day. When we got back to our room on our wedding night there was our favorite picture taken already printed out and framed for us. What an incredible surprise that was! We had all our pictures the follow week and they exceeded our expectations. The pictures he took embodied the love, emotion, beauty, intensity, and excitement of our special day. I couldn't have asked for anything more! I would highly recommend Juan Carlos to anyone getting married in Cabo! http://www.juancarlostapia.com/wedding-ventanas-al-paraiso-resort/

I have my wedding scheduled for July 30, 2016 in the beautiful Ochos Rios, Jamaica. This website has been super helpful in helping me with ideas such as "what to put in welcome bags", "song lists" and resort information. Riu Ochos Rios - After extensive research on the subject I went with The Riu Ochos Rios. The wedding coordinator is Keisha and I haven't had a lot of questions but when I do she is quick to respond (even for Jamaica time) and has been very helpful! mtfloral - I purchased (fake) silk flowers from mtfloral on Etsy and she has been amazing. My flowers are absolutely gorgeous and match the colors I was going for. The flowers were 1 of 3 things that meant a lot to me! BEPHOTOGRAPHY - James has been by far the best part of this planning process. He is not only my photographer but my travel agent and he has been so great. He has given me such valuable information and has kept me up to date on everything! I couldn't have been happier to book with him and to book him as my photographer! Love and Lace Bridal Consignment - My mom and I decided to check this place out after having no luck at two of my previous appointments. Not only was our experience great (even with my SCREAMING newborn), but I found by far the most perfect dress! They even have an in house seamstress who does an excellent job. I plan to post a great review after the wedding but so far so good!

We are extremely happy with the pictures that we got back from HDC photography from our wedding. When you hire a photographer you are always a little unsure of how the pictures are going to turn out especially when you are not on familiar grounds but Arnaud really put me at ease. He answered all of my questions and went over and above to make sure that I wasn't stressing about the photos. On the day of the wedding he was really fun and professional, guiding us through to make sure we got the prefect shots. When we got back from our honeymoon he had already had our pictures ready for us to have. On the day of the wedding you aren't really thinking about how to pose or what pictures you want but he made sure that we got all the pictures we had wanted all while looking good and staying on schedule. Not only was HDC so amazing but was also very affordable and I would recommend him to everyone of my friends who is looking to have a destination wedding!!! We are so pleasured with everything and beyond impressed with the talent of HDC photography.

Perhaps we can blame it on the surging "selfie" practice or the growing popularity and affordability of owning your own DSLR aka "fancy camera," but these days weddings have become filled with more than just the one or two photographers you've hired -- it seems like all the guests are also photographers, and sometimes even videographers. Whatever the case may be, I'm here to encourage you (if you've hired professional photographers to document your celebration) to kindly tell your guests you want an unplugged wedding ceremony -- in simple terms -- "PUT YOUR CAMERAS/CAMERA PHONES DOWN." Encourage your guests to put their cameras down especially during your Wedding Ceremony. As a wedding photographer, I can tell you, there's nothing more discouraging than composing the perfect photo of an epic moment, only to have a guest who blocks or steps right into your shot. Not only is it distracting, it's quite discouraging to have to deliver a series of photos to the bride and groom that have Uncle Edward with his camera phone right in the middle of an otherwise beautiful photo. Trust me, I almost ran into a huge disaster when I was prepping to take a photo of a couple's First Kiss and a cousin stepped into the church aisle blocking my view. Thankfully, the couple laughed and paused before their lips met and I was able to move quickly around her and still capture their first kiss as husband and wife -- something that happens only once in their lives. But can you imagine how disastrous that scenario could have been? I totally understand the desire to have a million photos taken to help you remember the day -- I was that bride too about six years ago. I wanted the immediacy of being able to see my wedding photos from family and friends and didn't want to wait for the photographer's images. But I can tell you, when I finally did receive them it made me realize that nothing could compare to the professional photos that were taken on our Wedding Day. They were incredible, intentional and every reason why I should have had more faith and confidence in just relying solely on my photographers. They were beautiful, every single one of them. (Side note: make sure you hire solid photographers that you know you can trust to capture all the important moments and deliver beautiful photographs!!!) If there is ever a moment to want your guests to put down their cameras, it should be during the wedding ceremony. Have faith in your hired photographers to capture this special time on your Wedding Day, but most of all, encourage your guests to simply enjoy and live in the moment when it comes to the ceremony. After all, they did travel hundreds of miles to partake in seeing you get married right? So why not ask them to relish in the beauty of that moment and refrain from taking photos. Ask them to be present and celebrate with you. It's a simple but important request. - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. How to Tell Your Guests You're Having An Unplugged Wedding
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
If you're one of the many brides who've decided they want an unplugged wedding aka "dear family and friends please put down your smartphones/cameras/tablets and just enjoy being present," now you must decide how to firmly but tastefully share your wishes with your guests. Here are a few ideas how you can convey to your guests that they need not play the role of wedding paparazzi and that you'd much rather have them be present, in the moment and enjoy the festivities: 1. Make a small mention of it in your wedding invitation: Yes you can give them an early heads up that this will be a wedding that you want them to fully enjoy -- meaning they need not worry about brushing up those photography skills. It's never too early to let your guests know that this will indeed be an unplugged wedding. 2. Put a can't miss sign up at your ceremony and on your reception tables: The professional photographers you hire will love you for this. It's a firm but creative way to let your guests know that you want them to put their cameras and devices down. There are so many creative and endearing ways to word your thoughts, just check out these sample signs on Pinterest for a few ideas: Unplugged Wedding Sign Ideas 3. Put a note in your wedding program: The OffBeat Bride blog offered these two great options for wording in your program: A short and sweet version: "The bride and groom have asked that you share in their wedding fully and not through the lens of a camera or cell phone." A little more in depth version: "We ask you to kindly turn off your ringers during the wedding ceremony and refrain from taking photos. We have professional photographers on hand to capture all the special moments and are excited to share their photos with you." 4. Have your Officiant make an announcement prior to the ceremony: Yes, some people won't bother to read the program or may simply ignore your note. So having your officiant make an announcement prior to the ceremony will officially put everyone on public notice. A simple, "The bride and groom have kindly asked that all their guests put their cameras and phones away and simply enjoy the ceremony!" 5. Ask your DJ make an announcement when the reception begins: If you want the unplugged rule to roll over to your reception, don't hesitate to have your DJ/Emcee or even a family member express your wishes. Remind everyone that your professional photographers are there to capture all the special moments and that you'd love for them to party the night away and enjoy the celebration without having to think about snapping photos. - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. When I began planning my wedding, my then fiancé (now husband) and I agreed that a few aspects were absolutely necessary no matter where we got married: good food, good music and good photography. Fortunately, we nailed every single one of those details. But as we inched closer to our wedding date, I began to wonder if I should hire a videographer too? Honestly, I didn't even consider it when we first began the planning process two years before our Wedding date. Frankly, I was akin to only cheesy wedding videos and wanted no part of it. But then I remember clicking on another bride's wedding video and becoming completely enamoured with the fact that it wasn't cheesy at all -- it was cinematic, it was set to beautiful tear-inducing music and it was like reliving the day and actually being there. Suddenly I found myself putting good wedding videography on my must-have list. The problem of course became, the sudden necessity to increase our budget when everything had already been planned out. It was going require that we put aside at least another additional $2,000 and that was a huge investment for us. So I began cutting out other expenses just to find a way to accommodate my want/need for a kick ass wedding video. And I can tell you right now, it was the best decision I could have made. When our videographers (Playa Weddings video based in Riviera Maya) delivered our highlight film, I remember watching it with my husband and laughing and crying at the same time. It was just like I had hoped for -- we were reliving the day with beautiful music in the background and remembering how magical our day was. It was incredible and brought back so many wonderful memories. And I can tell you, in that first year, we watched that film at least 150 times Not even kidding a little bit! The importance of having incredible wedding photos and wedding video became even more apparent to us three years after we tied the knot. You see, that's when my husband lost his father after a 7-year battle with colon cancer. To have his vibrant smile captured so beautifully in our photos and to hear his laughter and special speech to us in such an incredible wedding video is priceless. It is worth every single penny to have these precious moments captured on film. That is the crazy thing about photos and video -- with time their value grows, especially when it comes to preserving memories shared with those who have passed on. So when you wonder if you should hire a wedding photographer or videographer for your wedding day, the answer is a resounding YES. Find a quality photographer and videographer who fit your style and price point range -- and if it's not in your immediate budget, if possible, find a way to cut expenses elsewhere. When it is all said and done, you will have a few things to remember the Wedding Day you have so lovingly planned: each other, your rings, your photos and your wedding video. Don't let the significance of these important details be forgotten. - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Full Review Of Jhankarlo Photography
jrack posted a topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
My husband is a big photo buff, so I weeded down all of the photographers on this amazing forum down to three for him to make the final decision. Thanks to all the previous brides for their reviews, because it led us to our amazing photographer Jhankarlo! My husband loved his work, and in reviewing his website absolutely fell in love with his style and amazing eye for lighting, unique shots, and attention to detail. Here is his website and sample photographs that just reinforced to us that he will be able to make us look amazing! Haha.http://jhankarlophotography.com/ We emailed Jhankarlo several times before the wedding day and he was always really good with returning our emails and answering our questions. His packages were also quite flexible (we took the 7 hour package and added 2 more hours on it), and reasonably priced (he comes with his assistant), we also added a trash the dress shoot with him as well. What he actually delivered on the wedding day: Since we were not able to meet Jhankarlo before hand, I really did not know what to expect. Diana (his assistant) arrived in the middle of my bridal party chaos, as we were running late (like really really late), the girls were not ready, and we had scheduled in a bridal party shoot which we ultimately could not get. My bad on the timing bit. But through the chaos, Diana was able to capture some amazing shots of us getting ready, grabbed all of my ‘need to photograph’ items and did an amazing job of calming me down so that we could make the most of our time. Jhankarlo and Diana was also able to coordinate between themselves to organize our ‘First Look’ shoot while splitting themselves between myself and my groom for the getting ready shots. Quite honestly, we were running late so after that, I was so busy with being prepared and lined up for the ceremony that I didn’t even notice them. Thinking back now, both my husband and I am just amazed at how they managed to blend in while taking amazing pictures from some crazy angles and not even be noticed! My husband calls them chameleon photographers J We absolutely trusted in Jhankarlo’s photgraphy’s skills and his eye for detail and did not give him a list of must have photos. I am definitely glad that we did this, we ended up with a wide range of shots, from large group pictures, to sunset photos, candid shots of us enjoying our wedding, dancing, to amazing long range shots that (we had no idea what the set up was for at the time) and now seeing the photos…WOW! For future brides, if Jhankarlo tells you that ‘he has a good idea’, just go with it, follow his instructions and it will turn out amazing. The turnaround time for our photos was about 4 weeks time. Our friends and family have been blown away by how unique and personal our photos were. I cannot recommend Jhankarlo Photography enough. If you want any details let me know.- 6 replies

Our wedding is spring break 2015, and the wedding coordinator at the Barcelo informed me that we are not allowed to use an outside photographer. If we do, we will be charged $500. The resort photographer is Ocean Photo studio http://www.oceanphotostudio.com/en/ and their packages are PRICEY! I've attached their package in PDF format. Holy moly.... Has anybody worked with the Ocean Photo Studio? Has anybody got a less expensive package through them? Does anybody have any photographer suggestions that would be more affordable? At this point, we are looking at paying the way for our photographer friend to attend Mexico, then they would take all of our photos as our guest and we wouldn't have to pay the $500 charge. Originally, I'd budgeted like $800 for photos, because I only want digital copies of photos from us getting ready, the ceremony and cocktail hour/reception and then a dvd video of the ceremony. I don't want to deal with the shipping of prints as well as photo books etc. I'd rather take a CD home with the photos, then develop them at home. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Congratulations, you can stop looking for your perfect photographer! You have found him! It doesn't get any better than Bradley Fraser with Cabo Photography. We did extensive research before choosing our photographer for one of the most important days of our life! We came across Bradley's name on our resorts website reviews and we are so glad we did. Bradley met with us a few days before the ceremony to go over all of the details of what we want and expected. We felt very confident after our meeting that we would have a great experience with him. On our wedding day, Oct. 2, 2015, Bradley showed up early to make sure everything was going as planned. He took beautiful photos of me in my dress before the wedding and was able to capture the one photo I wanted more than anything else (my husband seeing me for the first time as I walk down the aisle). Our ceremony was very intimate with a guest list of only 12 and our family photos that he took are absolutely perfect. There are no words to express my gratitude for getting these once in a lifetime photos of our families. A few days after our wedding we met up with Bradley again to do a "Trash the Dress" session. The weather was perfect and the photos are breathtaking. They truly capture some intimate moments with my husband that I will treasure forever. We arrived back home to a celebration with all of our family and friends. Bradley was able to edit and get us photos for this party that we could share with everyone. These are photos I want to share and are proud to share! And finally, the whole experience was perfect but not just because the photos turned out so well. Bradley has a warmth about him that made it seem like he was a part of our family. Everyone loved meeting him and said such great things about him. I look forward to our next trip to Cabo so I can thank him again in person for making this experience so great. Thank you Bradley! Once again, stop looking around for a photographer. If you are in the Cabo San Lucas area you've found your guy! If you have any questions about my experience please message me!

Hi everyone! I am very excited to meet you all and hope your wedding plans are coming along smoothly. I am hoping also to connect with those who may have information about photographers in Nicaragua. This seems to be the biggest challenge for me as we just cannot afford to fly a photographer from the US and additionally pay their fees. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, i am open to them! Happy planning everyone! Jamie

Dear Men, If you're in a serious long-term relationship, then trust me when I say, your sweetheart has definitely thought of the possibility of you popping the question one day. It's just kind of a thing we girls do -- we dream of the perfect proposal filled with surprise and romance. And that's exactly why you should hire a photographer to secretly photograph the special moment when you finally ask her to marry you. The practice of hiring a professional photographer to document surprise proposals is becoming a growing trend, and as a wedding photographer, I can tell you -- these moments are absolutely meant to be captured on film! There's nothing more beautiful than seeing the look of surprise and raw emotions from both the soon to-be-bride and groom during the proposal. And trust me when I say, the moment will overwhelm the both of you so having it captured on camera is a good way to remember what actually happened Here are a few tips to consider when planning your proposal to ensure the moment is picture perfect: Unless you intentionally want a very public setting and quite possibly an audience, pick a location that gives your moment a sense of intimacy. Consider the time of day and what type of crowd may be at your location. Pick a location where your photographer can essentially "hide," or at least not stick out like a sore thumb, therefore ruining the surprise. Consult with your photographer on the best time of day to create gorgeous photos. If you want something done at sunset, talk to your photographer about the ideal start time -- he or she will appreciate your consideration. Talk specifics with your photographer so he/she knows exactly what to expect and what cues to look for when you're ready to pop the question. If you want awesome photos, planning the details out with your photographer will help immensely in ensuring he/she captures the moment perfectly. Do your research and pick the right photographer. Someone who has experience in capturing unexpected moments and someone equipped with the right type of lenses do the job properly. If this is a surprise proposal, then you'll want a photographer who has long lenses so he/she can document the moment from a distance. For a moment like this, it's not worth going the cheap route -- you want to make sure you hire a person who can do the job beautifully. Remember the saying: "cheap aint good, and good aint cheap!" Best of luck and I hope these tips help you document this special moment in the perfect way! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. We're currently looking for photographers (preferably those who can do videos as well). We came across Tropic One Studio. Have any of you worked with them? If so, we'd love your thoughts. Thank you for your help and have a terrific day! Dave

Just returned from a one week stay in St. Lucia. We stayed at Bay Gardens Beach Resort where we got married. EXTRAORDINARY PLACE! The site is beautiful, the staff friendly and pleasant, the food, in short it is the best trip I've done so far, and we are already planning to return for our 3rd wedding anniversary. Saint Lucia is the most beautiful place I have ever been to! For the adventurous like me, there are many waterfalls deep in the interiors that are still untouched by all the tourists coming into the island. We hired acclaimed photographer Bill Mortley (www.billmortleyphotography.com) to photograph our wedding and after the ceremony he took us to various locations to do our formals. Beautiful photos!!!!!! That made our entire trip so special. Probably the best decision we made. We read so much about him before deciding HE was the one we were going to entrust with our special moments. Bill took so much time to ensure each pose was captured professionally. Lots of attention to exposure and white balance...the guy knows his stuff. It was truly an amazing experience. The only thing I would advise apart from that is with the excursions. We paid a lot for one and weren't fully satisfied, so the next day we went out instead with one of the beach vendors, and that was truly a good decision. Saint Lucia is the most beautiful place I have ever seen! The journey is from the airport is long, but when you arrive at the resort it is worth it! The place is gorgeous, the food is excellent and the staff is so friendly...we can't wait to go back.
