Hi, everyone! So, we are planning a destination wedding in Mexico (probably Riviera Maya or Cancun) for April 18th, 2015. I am having some serious anxieties: 1. the guest list is too big to me! (but, we can't really cut anyone out) -we will have at least 35 guests, but probably closer to 40-50 2. I have no idea how to go about choosing which resort. I thought I wanted the Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun, but the package was for up to 20 guests and the packages really didn't have the important things. SO, back to square one. 3. I think that I need to stop being so concerned with the budget because in reality, we are still saving quite a bit by doing a DW instead of a local one. 4. I am also freaking out about photography, hair, and make up. I feel like even if there is a photographer provided by the resort, we should still hire someone from the outside? And, hair and makeup - is it possible to have a trial at the spa? I am terrified of the make up just..not..looking..so...great.. or my hair being too flat... I don't know. Does anyone have any suggestions, or can someone at least relate? I feel like I am being so dramatic, but I don't really have anyone to listen to these concerns because all of my friends have had local weddings. Thanks so much for the venting! Happy wedding planning!

Have just returned from a 2 week vacation with El Dorado Resorts and Generations Mayan Riviera where I was pleasantly surprised with a marriage proposal from my love, Lanny. We have decided on a destination wedding for April 2015 and anxious to start planning. I am struggling to choose between Dominican Republic and Mexico. I loved the amazing guest service, gourment inclusive, and attention to detail with Karisma in Mexico, however I was not happy with the beach. I love the beaches in Dominican Republic but wasn't a fan of the mediocre food, aggressive beach vendors, and not feeling safe to leave resort without escort. I am hoping my experience in Puerto Plata was due to the Resort I stayed at as I have heard of many wonderful experiences from friends vacationing in Punta Cana. I want our wedding to be affordable for our guests but not to compromise premium food, guest service, and for the beach to be a "wow" ! Combined we have 4 children with two being under 18 so our love for Adults Only Resorts will not be an option, unless it is a sister property next door where some of our adult guests could choose to book. Thus far, I have considered NOW, Dreams, Hard Rock, and Karisma Resorts but open to input from anyone who has been over the top amazed at their WC and Resort. Please help... I need to secure a venue, or a Country! haha Thanking you in advance.... Kind Regards, Angela Jackson

Hi Yaw!! My fiance and I are eloping in December, and so far I have the song I'm walking down the aisle/beach to him and our 1st dance song as well. My question is when the ceremony is over should we have something to kinda walk away to for video purposes or No??!?!! I can't decide on this, becuase it will be just the 2 of us no guest! Whats your thoughts on this, how would you do it. I'm afraid if we just stand there after the video may look awkward or funny! Thoughts suggestions please!!!

Hi Everyone, I have recently got engaged, and just starting to get to grips with this site, I am lucky enough to actually live in cancun, so It wont be as much of a nightmare for me as I guess for alot of 'real' destination bride, however as i'm sure you are all aware the web content for alot of mexican places especially the smaller non chain venues etc is sometimes non-existent so even though I live here I find this site so helpful! I am already so excited that In a year from now I will be a MRS or Senora to be precise, H2B is Mexican. I need suggestions for venues, hiring a luxury chauffer car from the church to the venue, and also If people think its absolutely necessary to get a wedding planner, I actually really enjoy the planning, so I might go without, especially since I live here, in return for everyones help I can help with local knowledge etc, I am also going to try and view alottttttt of possible venues so ill upload lots of images for people to see, I am a professional wedding photographer so choosing my photographers is going to be a task allllll of its own, I have already looked at over 30companies..... oh well thats me. get in touch if you have any hints or if you need an inside scoop on somewhere, also I am available for local cake tasting haha Bliss2be

What resort are you getting married at and what was the thing that "sealed the deal" for you selecting this resort. I THINK I want to get married at Grand Princess Riviera Maya BUT I keep thinking "Maybe there is another resort I would love even more that I haven't come across just yet". Im booking shy until I know for sure I have scoped out the perfect place for my perfect budget. This may help me check out your resorts and decide that maybe I'd like to switch it up or perhaps it may seal my deal that the Princess is right for my wedding.... Also, does your resort include a cocktail hour after the ceremony or a private area to do "dances", or do you have to pay extra at your location. (Trying to keep things modest in price and go....

Zipline above the jungle canopy Legal Requirements for Obtaining a Marriage License in Mexico: Consent: People under the age of 18 may not get married in Mexico without parental consent. With parental consent, boys have to be at least 16 and girls need to be at least 14 years of age. Foreigners Getting Married to Foreigners: You don't need to be resident in Mexico in order to get married there, you'll just need a passport and your tourist permit, plus some other paperwork (see below). If you plan to get married to a Mexican in Mexico, you will need additional documentation. Chest X-rays and Blood Tests: These must be done locally in Mexico, as the results of the blood tests and the X-ray documentation must be in Spanish and the tests need to be done within a certain time frame of the Marriage Application Form being completed. Not all states require the Chest X-rays. Check locally. Four Witnesses: You will need to have 4 witnesses present at the legal ceremony, and they must have valid identification (Passport). Validity Outside of Mexico: Your Marriage Certificate will be valid world-wide, BUT you should get your certificate 'legalised' in Mexico to ensure it is legally accepted when you get back home. The process is the reverse of getting your Native documentation legalised by the necessary authorities (e.g. Foreign Office) for marriage in Mexico (see below); The registry office in Mexico will tell you where this can be done locally. Required Legal Documents An American or other foreigner wishing to be married in Mexico must present to the appropriate Civil Registry certain documents described in the paragraphs below. All documents from the U.S., except for the valid U.S. passport, must be authenticated by an American authority (usually the Secretary of State), from the state where they originated, who attaches an "Apostille" to the documents listed below. Important! ALL Foreign documents listed below (with the exception of your passport) will need to be: Translated into Spanish; Notarised by your nearest Mexican Consulate and; Be 'Legalised' in the country where you live by the appropriate organisation or authorities. (In the UK the Foreign Office undertakes this task; link to the Legalisation page the on the Foreign Office's web site for details about obtaining this service). Marriage Application Forms: These forms are attained from the local registry office in Mexico. You will need to specify whether you will get married under joint or separate property on this form. Passport: Full Passport, valid for at least 6 months and a copy of same (both the bride and groom). Travel Permits: Original copies of the tourist permit which was completed at the port of entry or other resident permit (visa, FM3, FM2, etc) Birth Certificates: These will need to be certified and translated by an approved translator. Contact your nearest Mexican Consulate for more details. Divorce Decree / Death Certificate: If either or both persons were previously married, then copies of Divorce Decree/ Death Certificate, if applicable (see Previously Married) will be required for presentation. Chest X-Rays: The Plates from the Chest X-rays (Get these in Mexico) Blood Test Results: Written results of the blood test, written in Spanish (Get blood test done in Mexico). Again, these must be done locally in Mexico, as the results of the blood tests and the X-ray documentation must be in Spanish and the tests need to be done within a certain time frame of the Marriage Application Form being completed. Not all states require the Chest X-rays. Check locally. The Marriage Process In Mexico, only civil marriage is recognized as legal. Persons wishing to do so may also have a religious ceremony, but it has no legal effect and does not replace in any way the legal binding civil marriage. A civil wedding in Mexico is fully valid for legal purpose in the U.S. Civil marriages are performed by the Civil Registry of each municipality (Registro Civil). Marriages are performed without charge at the premises of the "Registro Civil". They may also be performed elsewhere, but in this case a fee is charged which should be ascertained from the "Registro Civil". Foreigners are not subject to a residence requirement but will have to identify themselves by a presentation of their tourist cards and of a valid passport and a copy of their birth certificates authenticated and translated as described above. Foreigners planning to marry a Mexican citizen should pay particular attention to the special requirements listed in paragraph below. Persons previously married must present proof of the termination of that marriage in the form of a divorce decree or death certificate. If the divorce or death took place outside of Mexico, it must be authenticated and translated into Spanish. Divorced people cannot marry in Mexico until one year after the termination of the divorce. If either party is widowed, the death certificate of the deceased spouse will be needed as part of the documentation requirements. If you plan to marry a Mexican National in Mexico, you'll need to fulfill some additional requirements: In addition to all of the above documentation, you will need to obtain permission from the "Secretaria de Gobernacion - Oficina de Migracion" where for a fee of around US$200/£130 you'll need to acquire a permit to marry a Mexican national. The document is known as "Permiso para contraer matrimonio con un nacional". The office issuing this permit must be the same office that has jurisdiction over the area where the marriage is to take place - so check beforehand! This process can take from two days to two weeks, depending on the State and the people at the local government office: be prepared to be patient if you have to! Foreigners wishing to marry a Mexican citizen must first obtain permission to do so from the "Instituto Nacional de Migración" Secretaria de Gobernación (Ministry of Interior). Marriage Fees You will need to pay your Marriage License fee (approx £20/US$30*), allow the waiting period to go by (anything from 30 minutes to a few days, depending on the State), and then the ceremony can take place and the marriage will be legal. The least expensive option is to have the ceremony performed at the Local Registry Office. For a further fee, you can arrange for the ceremony to take place elsewhere (hotel, beach, colonial mansion, etc). You will need to make further arrangements with all parties involved, or instruct your Wedding Planner to arrange this on your behalf. Once the civil ceremony has been completed, you will need to obtain a certified copy of the marriage certificate (Acta de Matrimonio). This will prove that you have been legally wed in accordance with Mexican law, and the marriage will be recognised just about everywhere in the world where it can be, including the USA, Canada, United Kingdom / EU.

Hi all! I'm new here- only got engaged a month ago, and haven't even set a date yet! But I've decided I HAVE to go with a destination wedding for two reasons: 1. I'm a soppy, sentimental romantic! I want sand and sunshine at the ceremony, and a real sunset to have my first dance to! 2. Most importantly- a destination wedding will force me to do some work to... FIT INTO MY BIKINI! Is anybody else on the wedding fitness train? I'm new here, so any suggestions of threads or forums to join would be great! Looking forward to getting to know you all Emma

I am looking to have a Maui wedding-- but I'm on a pretty strick budget of only 5-6k... I want to keep it relatively small- prob around 20 guests-- maybe around 35-40 if we can keep it within budget... Any suggestions on budget friendly venues, food, hair/makeup, etc.... Also, I'm not sure if the best route to keep cost down is to try to do everything myself, or if it is worth it to hire a planner to help out...

Definitively the most famous eco park of the region, Xcaret provides an impressive and almost fairy-like ambience for your wedding. One thing worth mentioning is that wedding ceremonies only start after the closure of the park, which means bridal sessions are mostly planned before the ceremony, with the park at disposal. In the winter though, the early sunset makes you need to arrive well in advance to have some nice pictures with your fiancé. Otherwise and also if you do not want your promised one to have a look at his bride to be, a session better be planned the day after. Wedding ceremonies are traditionally held in the little chapel on top of te the colourful cemetery, but also for civil ceremonies they have a special area at the rocks on the seashore, or also in the new hacienda. Here you can have a look at some 'Real Xcaret Weddings' by Zasil Studio to get inspired. Lindsay and Josh April + Adam Jessica + Guillermo Even if Xcaret already provides an amazing décor, you can consider giving it a personal touch with extra flowers, candles and decoration. It's worth it! Jocelyn + Alejandro Xcaret added a new area, including it’s own chapel for wedding ceremonies. This one is much bigger than the one on top of the cemetery, without loosing intimacy thanks to it’s ‘cave’ form. A little, but not unimportant detail: if you choose to have the churchceremony in the new chapel and afterwards the civil ceremony, dinner and party at the hacienda just beside, you can avoid some running around! My 70 on 7 Rule I want to let brides know of a simple rule I use to allocate the funds for an independent garden wedding that is not in an all-inclusive hotel. I recommend 70% of the budget must go to 7 key factors. This is why I call this the 70 on 7 rule. The 7 unavoidable factors for any custom wedding are: Venue - Independent venues have different styles or regulations, check with them for details. Coordination and Staff - This includes decorator, full coordination, set/up, take/down, clean/up, hostess... Decorations - This includes lamps, cushions, colors, accents, floating candles, tiki torches.... Catering - 3 or 4 course dinner, desserts, salads, tables, chairs, dinnerware, glassware, linens... Open Bar - Full, international brands, 5 or 8 hours, special margarita bar.... DJ and Dance Floor - DJ with playlist, dance floor can be wood, plastic covering or lighted or with light shows and video screens... Ceremony - Minister or judge or both, decorated arch, chairs, table for ceremony... All else can be added if desired or if the budget allows for it. However, these 7 items are essencial for a great wedding day and are practically unavoidable, so focus on these first. That's why I suggest 70% of the budget be allocated for these items and the 30% left over can go to other important factors such as entertainment, transportation, more decorations, souvenirs, photographer and video, late night taco bar, more flowers, rehearsal dinner, tours, etc. There are so many factors that can change your expenses that it is impossible to have one size fits all budgets. At least in our case since all our weddings are custom made. Certain factors may repeat themselves often which is why the 7 core principles are the same but the devil (cost increase) is in the details as they say. There are tables that may cost 8 dollars to rent and tables that cost 400 dollars, so that alone can change your budget from 40 dollars to 2,000 dollars if 5 table are needed! That is the difference between a 10,000 dollar wedding and a 12,000 dollar wedding or a 20% increase. So always have an idea of where you want to be in your budget plan and let the coordinator know. They should accomodate any budget you have. It is a matter of finding the right vendors and quality for you. Just because it is low budget it does not have to be bad quality. Conversely, expensive does not guarantee quality either. So choose wisely. I hope this helps. Buena Suerte! Be well and stay in love, Jimmy Martoca Beach Garden Showcase Page

Real Wedding in Udaipur A destination wedding in India means a combination of colours, fun, emotions, rituals, ceremonies and 2-3 days of celebrations of pre and post wedding events. It all started with Mehndi Evening where guests were welcomed with garlands, entertained with folk dancers and pupeet show, served Rajasthani food, got heena applied and more at the terrace of Sheraton Raputana Palace, Udaipur from where you can overlook the Fatehsagar Lake. Next morning started with Pitthi ceremony which entails rubbing paste of rose water, turmeric, chickpea flower. This ceremony happens for bride and groom both. In the evening the guests were ready to rock the dance floor in traditional style with Dandiya Sticks and Raas Garba. Here arrives the D day, a specific request from the bride was to walk down a white aisle and get married under white mandap. The groom arrived on an Elephant, with traditions Shaadi Band, welcomed with Shenai Player and the bride and groom tied the knot in spacious lawns of Sheraton palace Udaipur under white mandap on a beautiful cloudy morning. The colours of an Indian wedding stood out in this white wedding ceremony set up. Here comes the newly wedded couple for the cake cutting and first dance during their Reception Dinner. All this ends (or it really started) with a farewell brunch which was again a cloudy and nice morning. This destination wedding in Udaipur was organized by Memorable Indian Weddings. Sunaina Sharma is a destination wedding planner for India based in New Delhi. She is the co-founder of Memorable Indian Weddings, a destination wedding planning company famous for personalizing every element of the wedding as per couple’s requirement. http://www.memorableindianweddings.com
