Hi Everyone, I have a Cenote Trash The Dress session I am trying to sell for $100. It was originally an addition to our wedding photography package. My fiancé and I will no longer be able to do it as we will instead be touring around Playa Del Carmen and Tulum with our families. Our wedding photographer Enrique of Decordova Photography has agree to take a different couple so that the session is not wasted. You can contact Enrique from Decordova Photography to make arrangements at [email protected] or through his website at www.decordova.ca. Mention my name Emma and Trash The Dress to get it for $100 The details of the session are: Cenote Trash The Dress – Riviera Maya Date: January 16, 2015 or January 18, 2015 Durration 3-4hr Includes pick-up and drop-off from your resort I hope someone makes use of it as a little New Year’s treat from us. Love, Emma

Hi Everyone, I'm so excited to have found this website. There is a lot of great tips and information!! My fiancé and I have been together for 9 years now. We got engaged on Dec 14, 2013. We just met with a travel agent today for the first time and are hoping to get the ball rolling with wedding plans. I had no idea there is so much work to be done! We are planning on getting married in April of 2015 so that we can give our guests enough time to save $. We are looking at the Royalton in Punta Cana or Now Sapphire in Riviera Maya. But, would love to hear of any other suggestions/experiences!!

We are having the regular dinner followed by a bonfire at the beach with cocktails. I am not sure what to wear. Go simple or go fancy ? something like illusion back ? Wear a short dress or a long dress? Please help me with ideas or posting your dress , links, I need ideas of what I will be wearing. Thank you so much!!!

I know many brides have chosen to have their reception outdoors and the pictures look beautiful. However, it is very slim chances of finding indoor reception photos. Please share any photos you come across in the resort ballrooms to help give inspiration and tips to other brides. Can you please share the name of the resort and ballroom name in the post as well. Thanks!

Party Favors, Supplies And Fireworks!
andreaberretta posted a blog entry in Step by Step - Azul Fives Hotel 2015
Lately I´ve been trying to reduce the expense of my wedding and by chance I ran into a website that’s called The Knot. The website has a big variety of presents and all sorts of party props that can be customized with the wedding dates, names, etc. The prices are really good because they have lots of fifty and hundreds which makes it really comfortable to buy. With that being said, I was able to purchase all the things I wanted to use in the welcome kit that includes personalized matchboxes, koozies and coasters. My fiancé also order some personalized gifts for his best men, he was able to find something good, that looks great and fits our budget. So go look around www.theknot.com and tell me what you think about it. TheKnot www.theknot.com-

Is there anyone bringing their own photographer for your wedding? We have a friend who we are thinking about asking to come but we are wondering what we should pay him? Obviously we would pay for his trip but how much extra would you recommend paying him? He has a girlfriend that we were going to invite as well. Do you give him money for her too? Do you bring them for the whole week or a shorter trip? He is a friend of the family so it is not like he wouldn't know anybody. We have to make a decision for this soon since our deposits are due right away. Any insight would help!

I cannot believe that I’m just now starting this planning thread and that my wedding is almost here! My future hubby and I are headed to Mexico in 5 days for our wedding and I can’t wait. First, I want to thank all of the generous and lovely brides who have shared advice and provided support throughout my engagement. I am so grateful for BDW! I am also incredibly grateful to my family and friends, who have been an unending source of support and advice throughout this process. This thread is my way of organizing all of my thoughts and to help other brides, especially those who are thinking about having an off-resort wedding. How we met: Ours is definitely a 21st century relationship: we met online in early 2010. I was on my second round of Match.com and was close to cancelling my subscription again when I saw that someone had winked at me—LOL. We talked and found out that we had an amazing number of things in common, including similar religious upbringings, ethnic backgrounds (several of our parents hail from the Caribbean), hobbies, and a love of food. We traveled back and forth long-distance from Chicago, IL to Madison, WI for over a year until I got a job offer back east. As luck would have it, my fiancé ran into a coworker who told him about a job opportunity in the same city—and he moved before I did! The engagement (you can get the long version from our website): In spite of the fact that I’ve never been one of those girls to dream about the perfect proposal, I have watched enough proposal-related shows that I thought I could NEVER be surprised. My fiancé knew that the only was he could surprise me was to NOT do the typical thing (LOL). On January 31st, 2014, he called me and casually asked me if I wanted to go to dinner. The staff at the restaurant was REALLY nice that night, which should have tipped me off! Now, I love this place, but I’d describe their service as polite(ish) but often brusque. It’s also a loud Italian restaurant—not exactly your romantic French establishment (said in my best Frasier Crane voice). After a yummy dinner, he asked me if I remembered what he gave me on our first date. I said: “Oh, flowers and candy..so cute but so cliché.” (You’re probably thinking right now that I’m the worst, and you’d be right!) He laughed and then the manager brought over flowers and candy. Those of you who know me know that my next move was to try to dig into the candy. He said: “Will you PLEASE stop for a second!” At that point, genius that I am, I started to realize what was going on. I’m pretty sure that he said a bunch of wonderful things and talked about how much he loved me, but I started hyperventilating and crying. Hilariously, there was this large group of people sitting next to us commenting the whole time. “Shh..I think he’s PROPAWSING!” “I think she’s gonna say yes!” It was like being on a sitcom! Decision 2013: Where to have the wedding: I went back and forth quite a bit on where to have the wedding. And by ‘where’, I just mean narrowing down the city/country! My fiancé just wanted to get married ASAP—LOL. I wasn’t happy with the choices where we live or in my hometown, given our budget. None of them called to me at all. Then I remembered that some of my high school friends had recently had destination weddings and reached out to them for advice. After talking to a few travel agents and a wedding planner, I had narrowed my choices to St. Lucia and Riviera Maya. (We were definitely not having this wedding in the Caribbean, as we knew there would be a few too many family members on the guest list!) Ultimately, Riviera Maya won out because it was a cost-effective option that was easy for family and friends to reach. FYI: I will be organizing my 5-year vow renewal in St. Lucia, so everybody get ready!! Just a heads up for brides: the people that are supposed to be there will make it. Many of the friends (and family) that I was SURE would be at the wedding are not coming. It was upsetting at first, but I am thrilled about the 28+ guests that will be there celebrating with us. Their love and support for us makes this day all the sweeter. The Wedding Location: After FINALLY deciding to get married in Riviera Maya, I started looking around for resorts. I found some beautiful options, but quickly realized that good food, privacy and flexibility were both far more important to me than I had previously realized. My planner and I (Joyce Mnguni, of Dream Weddings) had decided on the Grand Coral Beach club for my wedding day. I was completely excited, until she called me and told me that they had instituted a new $2000 site fee!!! I’m sure it had absolutely NOTHING to do with their little feature in Destination Weddings Magazine, but I digress. Anyway, I had previously dismissed the Blue Venado Beach Club as too rustic for my tastes. However, seeing this wedding from Del Sol photographed in this location helped me to see Blue Venado with a new set of eyes. Blue Venado was cost-effective, private, had a reputation for great food, and would allow me to have the wedding that I wanted. So I ended up going with this location. Source: Blue Venado Beach Club Website The Resort: Although we chose to have my wedding off-resort, we knew that many guests would want an all-inclusive experience so they wouldn’t have to travel to find food, etc. Our resort, the NOW Jade is a bit far from our wedding venue (about 45 minutes to 1 hour), but it was cost-effective for our guests, the food is supposed to be pretty good, and it has lots of child-friendly activities. (Note for future brides: the friends who are coming are leaving their children at home as far as I know! So pick the resort that YOU want for your wedding.) Source: NOW Jade Riviera Cancun website The Planner: Joyce Mnguni of Dream Weddings I will have a lot more to say in my review, but I have to tell future brides here that they cannot go wrong with Joyce. I’ve raved about her elsewhere here on the boards, but she has been a lifesaver. She’s gone with the flow for some of my crazier ideas, provided me with information on lots of options, and reined me in on spending money where I didn’t need to. I also think she *gets* the Afro-Caribbean aesthetic/boho chic vibe of my wedding in a way that many other planners likely could not. I am very grateful for her! Photographer: Chad Pennington of Sobitart Photography I think that you realize very quickly what your deal breakers are. For me, excellent photography was one of them—to the point where I moved the videography budget into photography. I needed a photographer who was comfortable with photographing people of color on a regular basis and could capture moments, rather than just doing staged types of shots. I only seriously considered two photographers/companies. The first was Del Sol. They really do have great customer service and their work truly speaks for itself. The second was my photographer, Chad Pennington of Sobitart Photography. He was a second shooter for a childhood friend’s wedding, and I could NOT stop looking at the pictures. The primary photographer’s work was excellent as well, but Chad had some pictures in his portfolio that moved me and all of my friends beyond words (like this one). We were thrilled with our engagement shoot (check it out here!) and can’t wait to work with him on our wedding day. Save the Dates: One thing that is awesome and wonderful about weddings is that you will find that you have amazing wonderful people in your life that will rise to the occasion and help out wherever and whenever they can. One of my friends came with me to a bridal show (!) AND while we were there, told me that she would design my invitations/stationary. Here are our STD’s inspired by the beauty of the Riviera Maya: The invitations: The invites were also a labor of love. I used up about 90% of my DIY mojo assembling these invites, but we got SO many compliments! I had pinned an invite that I really liked on Pinterest, but they were insanely expensive and the materials were as well. On a trip to JoAnn’s our lives were changed by a sales associate that showed us my new favorite crafting material: burlap paper stacks. Ladies and gents, these really are fabulous! If you like the idea of using burlap but don’t want to deal with all of the fraying, these are the ticket! We also used twine from the dollar store to pull everything together. Here are my invites, and I will also post another easy DIY project or two using the burlap paper and twine. The dress: As you might imagine, finding the dress was quite a process! I probably went to at least 8 stores, some with my mom and godmother, some with my good male friend, and several on my own. I swooned over Jenny Packham and Vera Wang dresses, but I knew they weren’t in the budget. I finally found an inexpensive J. Crew dress, the Arabelle, that I thought would fit the bill, but my godmother put her foot down and vetoed it! LOL The funny thing is, the dress that I ended up choosing at a shop all by myself was a perfect combination of the first dress that I ever tried on (San Patrick Eresma) and the J. Crew dress, the Arabelle. I just love it! Here is the dress, the Pronovias Fabula. As my seamstress notes, it *looks* simple, but the design is absolutely not simple. She basically told me that she was used to seeing a lot of bling on dresses, and that mine was a refreshing change. My fashionista designer sister loves this dress as well: Source: Preowned Wedding Dresses website I bought this dress as a floor sample, and the saleslady and seamstress told me not to lose ANY weight. Well, I needed to and did lose quite a bit of weight and inches, so I had a great seamstress alter the dress for me. (Future bride tip: find a good seamstress outside of the bridal shop for your alterations. I used one recommended by a local bridal consignment shop.) Accessories: Bridal Hanger: I went back and forth with myself about getting one of the bridal hangers. At this point, I realized that I wasn’t willing to pay the high shipping, especially for a rush order. Plus, I wanted something a little different. I came across a tutorial for a sequined hanger, bought the materials, whipped this out really quickly using an old hanger (it really is easy to do and I will post the directions if someone wants them): It’s not perfect, but I think it came out pretty well for my first time! Thanks in part to this website, I started entering more and more bridal contests. One of the things that I won is a gorgeous handmade headpiece from UK designer Yelena Smirnova. She kindly offered to make up my choice, the Rosalie hair comb in all cream: Source: Yelena Accessories, Etsy I also decided to whip up a small birdcage veil to use with this; I just have to attach the comb. (Note: this is SO easy and far cheaper than buying a simple birdcage veil. I will post a tutorial later.) Jewelry: I originally got the J. Crew lattice necklace below to wear when I thought I would be going with the J. Crew Arabelle dress. I will have to post later on this, as my mom and sister have vetoed the necklace as inappropriate for this dress! And I got it on sale and everything! *sad face* Any suggestions from my fellow BDW brides would be great, because the clock is a tickin’! Source: J. Crew website The shoes: You would not believe how hard it is to find high metallic wedges for a wedding! I finally found my shoes on zappos.com, Badgley Mishka Kole in silver: Source: Zappos website Maid of Honor: I only gave my MOH a general color scheme, and she ran with it (but gave me the final veto). I will have to post her actual dress later (from J. Crew), but here is the color, which I love! Groom: The groom…refused to let me see what he’s wearing, so it’ll be quite a surprise for me! (Don’t worry, I made sure that a fashion-forward friend was with him to guide his selections.) Best Man: I have a general idea of what his suit looks like, but I’ll see the whole look at the wedding too! LOL (You can see how laid back I am about what other folks are wearing! As long as it looks good, I’m good!)

My finance and I are hoping to have our wedding at Hard Rock Cancun in November 2015. Just as we were about to finalize the details we were told some information that concerned us and we are coming to this forum to ask for help. The agent we are working with has informed us there are no standard rooms available for us for one of the dates we choose in November and for a later November date there are 18 standard rooms available. 1. Is there truly a limit to the number of standard rooms available to us? 2. If we book 75 room nights, based on a double occupancy, are the unlimited daily 3 hours events unlimited for more than 32 guests? 3. If we choose the complimentary wedding package and have more than 32 guests attending do we pay a price per head? We appreciate the help!

Hello brides, I need your advice on selecting the best resort for our wedding. We are having about 60 people travel with us, and the age range will be mainly between 25-45. We travelled to Mexico last month and visited Moon Palace and Azul Sensatori for site inspections. We liked both hotels but ultimately settled on MP as it had more to offer for our guests in terms of where to stay and what activities to do while in the resort. Also, we liked the great wedding packages and the various wedding locations available. We are about to sign the paperwork to secure our wedding date, but I am having reservations. After doing some more research I am starting to realize that the beach at MP is not great due to the seaweed, and am reading that most people don't enjoy swimming in the ocean there. The beach is very important to us as majority of our guests prefer this over the pool. However, I should mention that we will not be getting married on the beach but rather will have the ceremony on one of the terraces. I should also mention that we will not be needing the chapel at MP. We also liked Azul Sensatori during our visit, specifically for the rooftop ceremony location, great food and drinks, bridal suite, etc. However, when comparing the two against each other we chose MP for its location (Cancun), great activities, and the driveway to the resort (which looked awful at Azul when we visited but this could have been due to the rainfall). Now that I am beginning to question our decision, I am considering Azul as an option once again. We didn't get to visit Beach Palace during our trip, but I have seen pictures online and I like their rooftop location for the ceremony. Also, their beach looks very nice in comparison to MP. I am not particularly crazy about the layout of the hotel from what I see in pictures, but am still giving it fair consideration. If you have any thoughts on this please share as we need to sign the paperwork ASAP. Thanks!

Let The Planning Games Begin
girlinthecity97 posted a blog entry in girlinthecity97's Wedding Planning Adventures
While we had been talking of getting married for a while, things became "official" on Saturday, November 30th. While in my mismatched pj's with my hair tied up in a scarf and no one around, my fiance shocked me by (FINALLY) popping the question and presenting a ring that had been a post-it note doodle (instead of one of the 2 settings I'd picked as "options"). He's pretty conservative and always wants to "see-it" especially when it comes to big purchases. So the fact that he went with my doodle was HUGE! I'm glad he did . Planning Frenzy: Finally feeling "super official" I set out on a planning rampage. Since my fiance is so easy-going and a "pleaser", I felt it only fair to consider a destination wedding since this was something he felt strongly about. Against his feedback, I made a beeline for Barnes & Noble to buy The Knot's Destination Wedding guide and a planner - which I now realize, I really didn't/don't need. Armed with my fancy new planning guide and planner, I sat down and followed the advice of a good happily-married friend: "Pick 3-5 MUST-Haves and forget the rest." My top 3 were "no-brainers" (and thankfully aligned with my fiance's): Location - get pricing for "home" (here in the states) vs. a Destination. For the Destination, I used my own travel experience to help us choose a location that would give us (and our guests) the biggest "bang for buck" while being fairly easy & affordable to get to. All roads led to MEXICO! Food - a resort that had not just decent but GREAT food. We love a great meal and have a family full of "foodies" so this was an absolute MUST! My fiance pointed out that everyone still raves about the food from my sister's weddding 10 years ago & we should strive for the same! FUN - a resort that had activities for guests to do should they not want to book excursions etc... When hashing out the "MUSTs we differ on such as videography, she suggested that I remember to be flexible as well as realistic - which I recently had to apply after getting a pretty pricey videography quote (more on that later). After spending COUNTLESS exhausting hours combing Google and Tripadvisor for reviews of various resorts, I created a spreadsheet (yes a spreadsheet ) to compare the "Top 5" I felt matched the above "Musts." I found myself getting utterly confused and feeling greatly overwhelmed before creating the spreadsheet. Also, an "A-type" by nature, I was afraid I had somehow overlooked a property to consider. So I naturally bugged my fiance with non-stop "hey, what do you think about this place?" questions. Tired of having his sports watching interrupted, he suggested we consider consulting a Travel Agent/Advisor. I tend to be of the "I got THIS" mindset and figured I could calm my fears/concerns with a post on sites like this. I'm proud to admit I was wrong! If you are in the early stages of planning and are unsure where to start, I cannot recommend enlisting the help of a Travel Agent/Advisor (TA) enough! Leave it to the Pros: After checking with DW friends and reading various reviews, I selected 3 pros to conduct a phone interview with. The Knot's DW guide suggested interviewing TAs to assess knowledge, expertise, and fit (among other things). Instead of calling, I emailed each professional as an initial assessment. The TA we selected was the most responsive and addressed every question/point of interest/concern I listed in my inquiry. Upon speaking with her, she confirmed our 1st impression and lived up to the reviews we'd seen on-line. She also provided unsolicited candid feedback re the best time of year for our budget etc... I shared my spreadsheet with her and she did not hesitate to provided candid insight on the properties listed, as well as provide others that we should consider based on what we are looking for. Finding the right TA will really take what I felt was the biggest "weight" off of you - especially if you can't do a scouting trip! The TA will also take care of your guests travel arrangements, help negotiate best rates etc... Some also can advise you on the location contract - helping to avoid room minimum penalties etc... To Scout or Not To Scout: We are opting to scout because a) I'm "A-type" (remember?) and b)the front-runner resort offers a deeply discounted weekend where you can taste the food, see the location etc... Initially, DF (dear fiance) was adamant about NOT doing a scouting trip. After pointing out his practice of not making big purchases/investments without doing thorough research and "seeing-it", he relented. I further pointed out that due to the size, our wedding is a "big ticket" item so why should this be treated differently?! Thanks to our TA, we have 3 locations of interest that we'll be visiting at the end of the month. In the meantime, I've set my sights on my remaining "Musts": Photographer & videographer, which I hope to narrow down to 2-3 before our trip so we can meet them. After getting a quote ( )from my "dream" videographer here in the states, I had to revisit the "Musts" and rank them in order of true priority & practicality. While a video is something I really want, it is something that will realistically be watched once in a blue after the wedding. With that said, I've moved this to a very strong "Nice to Have." I think this post has gone on long enough so I will end here....until next time.... xoxo - me p.s. please excuse my niece's toes. she wanted to help take a pic of my ring.- 11 comments

Reaching out to all Brides to see if anyone has used AV Solutions as their wedding DJ's??? I am getting married December 1, 2015 at the Iberostar Quetzal in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and they are the resorts "exclusive" dj. I am done searches here on the forums, but can't find anything said, good or bad (and they have zero reviews on the vendors page). Maybe I have missed something being a "noob" but I would love to hear some feed back! Thanks in advance for your time!!!

Hello my fellow DW brides! I am 99% sure that the RIU palace Mexico will be the location for my DW. I was looking to see if anyone had knowledge and or experience with this destination. I would like to gather as much information as possible before I commit. I was originally Going with the NOW jade riviera cancun, but because of recent reviews of their customer service declining I was a little uneasy moving forward with them. I think I am interested in the caprice package, anyone had that package or going to have that package? I haven't found any information on reception option or if they even have that option. I'm hoping to make a decision soon as I'm looking for dates in May 2015 and time is flying by! Thank you! Jess

Our resort, EPM has an in house photographer we can use, Beach Studios. I've looked at their packages and they are RIDICULOUSLY high for what they offer (range from $500-$4,800, with the $500 option only getting you 24 images). We can bring in a photographer for a $500 fee, which might be worth it if they have a more robust and reasonable package. Have any of you found an amazing photographer with excellence packages for reasonable prices??

If you are considering a Destination Wedding but fear the unknown- rest assured that with Blue Diamond (not Blue Bay Esmeralda) in Riviera Maya, Mexico you will not go wrong. There was a lot of research on our part but I look back on my wedding as a beautiful and memorable experience and wish the same for another bride. My husband and I, along with the majority of our guests, stayed at Blue Diamond. We negotiated with the hotel to obtain group rates at the sister hotel Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda (also where our wedding coordinator was from) and they agreed to it since some of our guests have kids and Blue Diamond is an Adults only resort. Perhaps it’s a bit of a cultural difference but the wedding planning part took a bit to get started (slow for a response, took time to finalize our contract, coordinate with vendors)- but a couple of months before the wedding things started to pick up in pace. I did not use all on site vendors and have no regrets, the vendors I used were amazing and I would recommend them to anyone! Hi BDW members...I recently booked our wedding for Marina El Cid for May 2015, and wanted to see if you have any experience/recommendations with the resort.... 1) How is the salon on site for wedding day makeup & hair? Would you recommend going with an outside vendor? 2) Do you have any menu suggestions? 3) How would you rate the DJ the resort provided for the reception? 4) Would you do anything differently? 5) Did you have a symbolic wedding? How was your experience? 6) I am having our reception in the garden, but read there were a lot of bug...Did anyone have a bad experience with this? 7) Would you recommend an outside vendor for flowers? Thanks everyone :-D

Hello! This is a question for those that have seen the sunset in Cancun. We are getting married in December, and the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5pm (cocktail hour is 4-5). According to various sources, we have been notified that the sun should set at around 5-5:15pm then. Additionally, we were told that when the sun sets in Cancun, it's not a gradual scenic event, but rather a sudden change in the color of the sky. I am wondering what color the sky would be at sunset. Does it get pitch black right away or does the sky gradually get dark but still gives enough light to see the surroundings for a little while. I am thinking to move the ceremony time to 4pm instead of 5 (cocktail hour 3-4), but if I do this then I would not be able to have fireworks immediately following the ceremony as I had initially planned. So it's a tough decision. On the other hand though, if we have the ceremony when it is still light out the pictures may come out a bit nicer and the guests could enjoy the rooftop view from the reception for a short period of time (whereas if we go up there after 5:30 as we are currently scheduled, if the sky is totally black then, they will not see the view at all). Please advise. Thank you in advance =)

Hola! I am newly engaged and my fiance and I are are getting married on February 21st, 2015! I was so overwhelmed at first with all of the different destinations and resorts to choose from, the more I looked the more confused I got! I finally just decided to take the plunge and chose Moon Palace in Cancun, Mexico. I am looking for anyone who has been to Moon Palace for a vacation or any fellow brides who have been married there or are going to be married there, any advice would be greatly appreciated! I am looking for any advice on ceremony set up, is it worth getting a specific wedding collection or just go for the complimentary package and customize it yourself. Also looking for advice on wedding reception and which extras are worth adding! All in all i'm just looking for anyone who has any good advice for me regarding weddings at Moon Palace! Thanks!!!
