Pros: Location, Service was PHENOMENAL (the set up, decor, service at the reception with drinks/food)
We held our wedding with 46 guests at the Gran Caribe on November 8, 2015.  Everything was excellent and met or exceeded our expectations. We used destinationweddings.com to assist us with hotels at Hyatt Zilara and Gran Caribe, so there were different price points for our guests.    Majority of our group stayed at the Gran Caribe, and seemed pleased with the cleanliness and service at the hotel.  Our wedding coordinator leading up to the event, was Katia Nunez. She was so great and easy to wo

Pros: Everything else!
Cons: Food, Communication w/ Coordinator at times
My wedding was nearly a year ago. But I promised myself that I would give my review to help any future brides. Our ceremony was on Saturday 08/09/2014 at 4PM in the gorgeous Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel in Gran Caribe Real. We chose the Ultimate Luxury package because it covers up to 50 guests (you pay per guest after that) and we expected 80 guests. 70 guests RSVP'd and attended so we saved some extra $$$. The Ultimate package includes:  a wedding website, pre-wedding welcome cocktail, chapel c

Pros: Great beach and location on the Zona Hotelera, good for a Catholic wedding, location, afforadable for many guests, great party atmosphere
Cons: Some rooms are in pretty bad state, not romantic, loud, small pool
We got married at the GCR 08May2014 at the chapel and had our reception at the sunset terrace.   Resort: B+      This resort is an average 3 star resort.  It is a medium-large sized property with a very nice beach front. We got the Gran suite oceanview room, which was nice and spacious. It certainly has potential to be a 4 star resort, but you can tell some of the rooms are falling apart and maintenance just cannot keep up anymore. I have been to some of the lower category rooms since some o

Pros: music, on site coordinator, chapel
Cons: sick from food, flowers fell apart, issues with rooms, etc.
We got married on memorial day weekend in 2013 and our wedding was an absolute nightmare. I have been struggling with whether to write this review and I really don't want to come across over dramatic, and I am going to try to keep this very fair. A lot of our trip was great, but our wedding memories will always be overshadowed by our group falling ill, which I do believe the resort should have taken some responsiblilty for. So, I'll try to get the worst parts out of the way early in this review

Pros: Friendly staff, food, drinks, beach, beautiful view and amazing experience
Cons: Poor communication (planning process)
Our stay: April 21-26th Our wedding: April 24, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.  Ceremony: Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel Cocktail & Reception: Villas Terrace Guests: 32 people     ROOMS: Prior to our arrival I had been notified that our upgrade was not available at Grand Caribe Real (GCR) so they actually upgraded my husband and I to The Royal next door, even though all our guests were staying at GCR.  Before we went and checked into our room, we stayed at GCR to make sure that al

Pros: resort, food, wedding coordinator, beach, customer service, the wedding day, fire dancer entertainment
Cons: pre-wedding planning
Choosing the location for our destination wedding was the hardest part for us as a couple when it came down to planning. We got very lucky with the travel agent we decided to go with and Gran Caribe Real Cancun was one of the places she suggested. It fit our budget, it was an intimate resort where you didn’t have to walk too far for anything really, had a beautiful beach and was family friendly. Our destination wedding week was from April 21 to the 28th. This review will be quite long, but I wan

Pros: onsite wedding coordinator, chapel, no surprises, videographer
Our wedding was 3/14/13 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at 4pm followed by a private cocktail hour (5:30-6:30) and reception (6:30-9:30) at the Albatros Terrace. We had the Classic Catholic Wedding Package, however I think they discontinued that package.   We stayed at The Royal, however, our guests were evenly split between the Royal and the GCR.   Welcome Dinner - A We had a Welcome Dinner instead of a rehearsal dinner. It was at the Albatros Restaurant at the Gran Caribe fo

Pros: Wedding process was easy! I did not have any issues planning and everything went great on the wedding day!
Cons: Hotel check-in was a pain for some of my guests. Rooms that were reserved were not available
Gran Caribe Real  (all 40 guests stayed here)   We truly enjoyed our stay, there was always something to do and the service was great.   The only issues we had were in checking in (though we did get the complimentary upgrade). Checking in took a long time and our room wasn't ready till 4:30 pm. Checking in for our guests was just as bad for some even worse. Some of my guests had to stay in different rooms (not the ones they had reserved) for one night because the rooms they di

Pros: beautiful beach, great WC, accommodating staff, great spa
Cons: food was okay, check in was slow
I just had the best wedding I could dream of, so here goes with the review Beach: beautiful white sand beach with crystal clear blue ocean, tons of lounge chairs, trade wind beach bar is very close by. One beach volleyball net seems to be available all the time. (view from our room) Food: at the buffet was mediocre, better at restaurants if you order the right dishes. I prefer their meat dish over their seafood stuff. Maria's was my favorite restaurant on GCR side, and Asiana Chef'

Pros: food, wc, spa
Please message me with any questions . I would love to help!!!   We got engaged in cancun and chose to go back for the wedding and convenience for the travelers to get too. Plus it is close to the night life if you have guests that want to get out of resort too!  The Gran Caribe Real was amazing.   My wedding planning was a breeze.  We chose the Classic Wedding package with a private reception.    Transportation:  On the suggestion of others on this site, we used Lomas for airp

Pros: good for diverse ages, chapel, location
Cons: security/robbery mishap, pre-arrival communcation with planner
Hi Everyone – I might have gone a bit overboard with this review, but I hope it helps!!   We were married at the Gran Caribe Real on 11/22/11.  Our ceremony was in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, the cocktail hour was at the gazebo, and the reception was at the gazebo beach… it was all perfect, despite a few glitches and a rain cloud during our reception.   152 people flew to Mexico for our wedding (we both have really large extended families), which is out of the ordinary for a destin

Pros: Beautiful all around
Cons: nothing
We arrived at the Royal on April 2nd 9am. We met with Flora our WC immediately upon arrival and did the blood work so we could have a legal ceremony. We had 34 of us total in our group and we all stayed at the Royal the whole 5 nights we were there. My hubby and I stayed in the Presidential suite and it was beyond amazing. When we arrived our bed was decorated with rose petals which we moved to the Jacuzzi and had a rose petal bath. Super romantic. We were also greeted with a honeymoon cake with

Pros: Location/Beach, Flowers, Wedding Food, EXCELLENT on-site staff, CLEAN
Cons: poor communication (pre-wedding), cake, pool
My husband and I got married at the Gran Caribe Gazebo on 1-1-11. Overall, the experience was great, with only a few glitches. [Gran Caribe: the Resort itself B+] We booked the One Bedroom Master Suite with Ocean-view and Jacuzzi at the Gran so that we could be close to our wedding guests who were staying there and we’d have full privileges at The Royal.  I would like to point out that our room was not what was pictured on their web site.  There was no balcony and our view was blocked by a

This site was so helpful with our wedding planning so I wanted to be sure to share our story in the hopes others might find it useful.   We have been to different parts of the Mexican Riviera for vacation on numerous occassions.  Our personal preference is the area south of Playa De Carmen because we enjoy to snorkel and also like to get away from the crowds.  When choosing a site for the wedding, however, we needed a place that was affordable, easily accessible and had a great value for o

Pros: Great resort, friendly and accomodating staff
My fiance and I got married at the Gran Caribe Real Resort and Spa in September 2010. We did not do a site visit prior to booking the hotel. However I was really satisfied with this resort. The resort did an excellent job of catering to a large group of 46 people. The hotel is very kid friendly (kid pool/water park, kids club and babysitting available). Unlike many hotels in Mexico this hotel was busy which made for a great atmosphere.   I didn't really have any problems with the hotel co
