  2. Thank you so much. I have written to the girl helping me at the reception place, but she forgot to answer that question in my last email and it usually takes her 1-2 weeks to email back so I really want to get working on it. This helps a lot!
  3. Hello. I need to order a wedding cake and can't seem to find a direct email for a bakery in Playa. I have seen some facebook pages and names, but I haven't had luck reaching anyone. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
  4. Your family sounds just like mine! I'm getting married in Playa del Carmen in 4 months and I just found out this week my sisters are going. But they still have NOT booked! Not one person in my family has. I also had a handful of friends that promised 100% they would go and now backed out because they decided to travel elsewhere this year. At least make up a good excuse! Before we booked, we asked my sisters, my cousin and dad if they would go. They all said yes, sure. Then after we book, it's 'I'm not sure I can afford it.' They had 2 years to save! My mom passed away a few years ago and I'm really close with her sisters and my cousins. I see my aunts almost once a week. I have two cousins, those two aunts and an uncle that are not going. And it's not because of money. It's because they 'poo poo' Mexico. It's not where they want to go on vacation. It really does hurt and it makes you sad. But I am at the point now where I am just focusing on me and my man. And I only talk to the people that are excited for us. As I get older and people get busy and have their own lives, I've noticed more and more that people can be bad at communicating and rsvp'ing. Just try to focus on things that you can control. It's your big day and if those people do not want to be there with you to celebrate, then they wouldn't be any fun anyways. And if the hotel or flights get sold out, then it's up to them to figure it out on their own. I know it's easier said than done, but you will exhaust yourself if you spend all this time hunting people down. I wish you luck and hope some of them start shaping up!
  5. Hello. I am trying to find information on who to contact to hire the bike taxi's in Playa del Carmen. I'd like to hire a few of them to take my bridal party from our hotel in downtown Playa to the wedding location. It's less than half a mile away. I don't want to walk that far when we're all done up and I think it would look cute for pictures. Does anyone know the contact info for a company that does this?
  6. I'm going to go with a pink for sure. Just not sure which, either magenta for a bolder color, or soft pink. I have the colors in photos below. I just don't want blue. I love the color, but since we're doing beach, I've noticed some blue bridal parties blend in too much w/ the water. A girl I know got married in Mexico and has her bridesmaids in long soft rose colored dresses. They got married later in the day and the sun was going down so her wedding was very 'romantic.' I think the rose and silvers or golds is very pretty as well.
  7. Hello. I am thinking of having my wedding at Grand Sunset Princess. I am having a hard time reaching the people at the current place I booked so now I am thinking of losing my deposit and doing it at our hotel. We cannot afford to do the private beach party. We are having about 20-26 guests, so not a huge party. We will need to have our dinner and reception in an a la carte restaurant. Does anyone know IF you can have a DJ in one of these locations and if there is room to dance? I'd still like to have our first dance and have him dance with his mom. I'm not sure if this is possible if we do not book the private beach area. Or if we can bring in a little sound system and play songs? Or even which a la carte restaurant to choose. I have reached out to the hotel, but they usually take a while. I'm just looking for some advice. Thanks!
  8. I have been getting quotes and I got a quote for $320 for bride to get hair and makeup so $200 is a great deal!! I'd like her info!
  9. You should be able to book any tours from your hotel. A big excursion in the area is doing Tulum and then visiting Xel-Ha. At Xel-Ha, you can do snorkeling. I really like it there because it's really peaceful and you can snorkel a large area. Xcaret is also a nice option, but it's huge. They have a little cave area you can snorkel in, but be careful, the caves and cenotes are COLD!!! Isla Mujeres is a fun getaway, but it's a long trip from Riviera Maya. But worth a visit if you have time. When do you plan on going? Depending on what time of the year, you could possibly snorkel w/ whale sharks. I use the website www.viator.com when looking up tours for vacation. They cover many countries. They're worth a shot. But if you can find a local guide, that is always a great thing to do because you can get personal service and htey can show you fun things that they couldn't do w/ a huge group.
  10. Tulum is great. Whenever I go to Mexico w/ someone new, I make sure to take them there. If I do a big group, we usually do the long tour that visits Tulum and Xelha. Everyone loves Xelha. It's a laid back place with beautiful water. You could look to rent a large van to just take you and pick you up from this location. We are hiring a large van to pick us up and take us to our Playa hotel and it's about $50 per trip. You don't pay per person. So it's $100 roundtrip and we can fit numerous people in there. You may want to check that out.
  11. Oh my gosh. I've been trying to email Adriana for over 2 months now. I was wondering if she left. Noboy notified me. I also sent a regular email this week to the general email address and I'm still waiting to hear back. Adriana was great. So quick and very accomodating. That makes me so sad. Do you have the email to the new WC? I'm a bit scared now. I'm so glad I looked on here. Thanks for the heads up.
  12. Hello. I will be getting married in Mexico in November and I plan on having long dresses for the bridesmaids. They are going to be light, flowy and chiffon and magenta. They are pretty and simple dresses. I'm looking to add a pop to the dresses by having them wear a pretty hair piece or flower. Or a cute necklace that isn't too much. Does anyone have any cool ideas?
  13. To be honest, I don't know anyone that had a big 'to-do' for the legal ceremony. I am having a Catholic ceremony in Mexico. Nobody is going to know about legal ceremony. I feel that the church part is our wedding and for my aunts that can't make it, well that is their choice. It's not like they're not going because of health or money issues. They just don't like Mexico. If they couldn't go because of health issues, I would invite them to the legal ceremony. Or have a party for those who couldn't come after the destination wedding. I wouldn't want my Catholic ceremonty to be cheapened in any way and to have someone think of that as my second wedding or fake wedding like you mentioned. But that is my view. It's your big day and you should get to choose who you want at each place. If you feel you want just a few people, then you really should tak with your mom. People will know we are married ahead of time, but that is only because my fiance has a big mouth and already told people. I don't think guests really think about it. Each time I've been to a Catholic wedding, I assumed that was the big day. Good luck!
  14. I am using Photos in Cancun for my Playa wedding next summer. http://www.photosincancun.com/ It's $1500 for 4 hours. I'm doing the 6 hour package at $2000 and also doing a Trash the Dress. So far they have been great with emailing back and giving me details that I didn't even think about. I had my reception and ceremony schduled at a certain time and they suggested moving times around to get better photos. So far I really enjoy working with them.
  15. I am getting married next summer at the 5th Ave. Chapel in Playa. I had a hard time picking because I don't want my guests to pay $300 a night for accomodations and I can't afford a $15,000 wedding myself. This way I can get the cute chapel, decent hotel nearby and we are having our reception at Kool Beach Club. The woman at Kool beach club has been great so far. She has set up the ceremontya the the Chapel for me too. They get back to me quickly and have been very flexible. There are other beach clubs too. I also like that guests can choose to stay at our hotel (Grand Riviera Princess) or choose a different hotel. Since it's not a hotel wedding, we don't have to pay extra for guests staying outside the hotel to come. I love the JW in Cancun. I've stayed there before and would again in a heartbeat. I just couldn't afford their wedding packages.
  16. It's your big day, not theirs. I have family members that refuse to go to my wedding in Playa next summer because they don't like Mexico. They hear things about it being unsafe. Yet, at the same time they go to Chicago all the time and Chicago has some of the highest crime rates in the country. Bad things happen everywhere and compared to many places, Playa del Carmen and that side of Mexico is fine. I think spending that kind of money can be tough, but once they are down there, they will be happy they did it. And it's not just a regular wedding where people rush around for a few hours and you barely get to talk to people. This is a family vacation where you all get to spend time together. As we get older, we're all busy and have a hard time relaxing and enjoying each other. You're giving this to your family and friends and although they are making a fuss now, they wil be happy about it once they are sitting on the beautiful beach enjoying a cocktail.
  17. I am wearing my hair up. It's going to be hot, windy and after running around I know it will look bad down. Now I just need to find a good style.
  18. Thanks for the info. That's just what I was looking for. Do you know of any other nice hotels within a 5-10 minute cab ride to playa that would be better? We're trying to keep price at no more than $300 per night, per couple.
  19. Hi there. I will be getting married next year in Playa at a chapel and then having my reception at a beach club. I am looking at hotels for our us and our guests to stay. I think I'd like to stay at one of the Rius. I'm just not sure which one. I know they recently renovated the RPM. Has anyone been there recently and had a chance to see both? Are they both right on the ocean? I'm not sure if the RPM will be my style. I'd like something with a little Mexican flare. I want to feel like I'm in Mexico and not New York City. I also noticed the bathrooms are a little open and not all guests will be couples. Not sure if they want to shower in front of their friends. Our travel agent did say that the renovations were great and she liked that one. I'd like to stay at whichever is in the best shape and has better pool/hotel facilities. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!
  20. Hello. I have a strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline that I will be wearing for my big day. The dress is simple so I bought a fancy diamond belt to bling it up. Now I need a nice matching bracelet and earring set. Since it's my special day, I want something a little better quality than Claires jewlery, but I do not have the budget for Tiffanys type jewlery either. Would anyone know where I could get a pretty diamond chunky cuff bracelt? Online or a regular department store is fine. I am also debating what type of shoes to get. Since it's a Mexico wedding, I'm thinking low/mid heel sandle. Any ideas for that? Not sure if I should get a silver to match the belt or stick with white to match the dress. What do you guys think? Thanks!
  21. I will be getting married at a Catholic chapel in Playa del Carmen and then having a reception at Kool Beach Club on June 15, 2015. I can't wait!
  22. I plan on doing the same thing two days before the wedding so everyone can hang out and get to know each other. If you get some good info on that, let me know.
  23. Hello. I am getting married in pdc on June 15, 2015. I am getting married at the 5th ave. chapel. I am having my reception at the Kool Beach Club after. I had a hard time hearing from the chapel, so my contact at Kool is setting everything up. She is making everything so easy for me. I couldn't afford a wedding planner, so it's so helpful that she's doing this for me. I am also having a small wedding for about 20-25 people. I really like that location, but the other chapel is nice as well. Just make sure to give yourself enough time to get your documents from your church at home. I need to do classes and get paperwork at least 6 months before the wedding.
