Anyone Else Frustrated By Prefered Vendors?
TinkerSofi replied to purplekitten's topic in Destination Wedding Vendors
I know it sucks that resorts charge outside vendor fees but they all do, unless you go with an offsite reception. Some resorts have excellent vendors and there's no need to hire an outside one, but some others leave a lot to be desired. I would base my decision on the trust you have with the vendor rather than on the fee. If the guy isn't responding I'd probably bite the bullet and hire someone I trust rather than hope for the best with someone who is not very responsive. Otherwise you'll be wondering whether they'll do a good job at the wedding, etc. If it makes you feel any better our resort charges $800 per vendor -

Most of our guests are Latin and so are we, so we're definitely going to have a big proportion of Spanish songs as well as some english songs. Our first dance is a salsa song actually

I'm having so much help lately from my fiance! It's great because I honestly didn't expect him to help at all, and if he did it would be dragging his heels. He has a bit more time now that school is winding down and he's pretty much done with all the hard stuff . He's picked his suit, thinking about his shoes now. Next month we're getting his ring and he's been going around trying to organize his friends to see who's coming and contacting our TA. He also started a list of songs that he wants . I'm definitely enjoying this moment!

I love to dance so I know what you mean about songs that make you feel things . It's just that every time i start thinking about songs I get overwhelmed and I don't even know where to begin ahah. I do need to start tackling this though because the feeling will only get worse as time goes by. My plan is to have the "must" songs and then have my MOH fill in with her music. We do agree on a lot of songs so I'd even be comfortable telling her to make up the whole playlist because I know i'd love it lol. I just don't want to create too much work for people. Are you using an ipod to play your music there?

Show us your wedding dress!
TinkerSofi replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I was between this dress and the one I got. It looks gorgeous when it's on. It was a tough choice for sure. -
Aw I love it that you guys are so much into music! I haven't heard of those songs but I'll look some of them up when I'm home I live under a rock so I don't know much about music or artists or anything. It kinda sucks sometimes haha. I'm recruiting one of my MOH's to help me out with the music because she's good at it . She planned the music for her sister's wedding and it has been one of the best weddings I've been to!

I don't think you're being a bridezilla. I don't have kids either so I know that I'm not in that position to speak. However, I remember countless times when we were kids and my parents would go out to an event, we'd go with them and if we got tired they'd just put two chairs together and we'd sleep right there in the middle of the party haha, or we'd just rest on one of my parents' lap and sleep. I mean it's one night, an important night. It's really not going to kill them to stay one hour later. Is your sister in law going alone or with her husband? If she is going with someone else, someone could easily watch her son while she gets her hair done and even start to get him ready so she only has to do some things when she comes back. I'd try to suggest that and maybe tell her that you just really wanted all of you guys to be together during that time, but if it doesn't work out there's not much you can do and I'd just accept it the way it is (even though I wouldn't be totally happy haha) I do think with the extended reception you have to put your foot down and do whatever you want to do. You're not asking them to stay with their kids until 5am, really. Chances are the kids are going to be so excited that day that they either will fall asleep in the middle of the party without any problems or they're going to be running around until the party is done hahah. I do think that in some cases it's true that people can't do things because of their kids and it's totally understandable. They're on a totally different timeline than people without kids. That's why I would respect her decision not to come to the zipline if she's not comfortable leaving her son with someone else, and to some degree coming to the latest appointment. I'd try to sway her on that one but if she still refuses, like I said you can't really say anything. Getting kids ready probably takes a lot more time than we think, so I could understand that as well. However, when it comes to your wedding and your time, I don't think they have a say. The kids will grow up and no one will remember "that night when they stayed up later for a wedding" but you will always remember "that time when I had to cut my reception short because people refused to let their kids past their bedtime" Just my two cents.

Thanks! Yeah that owl gets me every time, I have a bunch, some are playing the guitar or cooking tacos haha. Yeah I think they've gone up so much because of the dollar, which kind of sucks because it probably means we won't get any money back haha, but at least we booked when we did! . I'm so happy we didn't wait any longer.

I got so much done today. I'm exhausted . I had the day off so I decided to knock a few things off my DIY list. Then my dad is taking an online course in photography and he was practicing so I asked him to take some nice pictures of my finished projects. Which means I finally have some decent pictures that don't come from my phone! hahah First: I finished the flowers. I wrapped the bridesmaids' bouquets in ribbon, which will also double as the centerpieces. And I took a picture with them in the jars they'll be going in for the tables (which I had previously also wrapped in the same ribbon and lace). I also put together the smaller flower arrangements that will go in the votive holders as centerpieces. The pictures are missing the lanterns, but I posted those earlier, so you kind of get the idea . Second: I finished the Emergency kits, including the little envelopes for the Tylenol and the tags. I made the envelopes on Photoshop, then printed them and glued them together. Third: I worked on the stencil once again, this time with more success. I used the cricut and my computer to make a mock stencil with cardstock and then painted a piece of fabric with some spray food coloring. The image came out much clearer when using a large stencil, even though I didn't glue the stencil on to the fabric. I also decided that I'll be using one of the cartridges I already have rather than spending more money and buying a new one which I'll never use again. I'm waiting for a nice day to finally be able to go outside and try a real one with paint. I think they'll look pretty awesome I'm feeling accomplished Updates on other things: I'm starting to freak out about shoes. I've gone to a few different places and no one has much selection. Correction, much selection on mid-size heels. I love the look of super high ones but I know I'll be in pain within the first half an hour and I want to enjoy my night. I hope that all of the summer stuff is not out yet and there's still more to come. Then comes my next problem, no one ever has my size. I'm not kidding guys, just this winter I've been able to replace my winter boots...after a year of searching for some place that would have my size . I'm a 5, which means many shoes are not even made that small, or they bring like one pair and unless you're at the store the day they get them in, good luck finding them, especially if they're pretty. It's actually been to the point sometimes that I want to cry and give up on ever finding shoes again hahah. One of Juan's friends is ready to book! yay!! He's thinking of staying at our hotel, which is great. He asked for a quote, and my TA told him $2000 for double occupancy. Of course now he's kicking himself for letting another friend convince him that they'd find something cheaper close to the date instead of booking with our group. Now the friend backed out and he's left with super high prices. Oh well, nothing we can do as we warned him before but I hope he still comes, even if it's to another hotel. I know it would make Juan very happy.

I've done both, shellac all color and just color tips and I agree, The colored tips will last much longer. Only because you can't see the growth as much . If I get them done I'll do it as close to us leaving as possible. My nails, much like my hair, grow extremely fast. I got shellac last time i went to Mexico and by the end of my vacation they started looking a little bit crackled. Maybe it was because of being in the water all the time? Maybe gel might be better? especially if your wedding is towards the end of your vacation like mine .

I found out through my TA. I didn't know it was going to happen, so I wasn't counting on it, but then my TA called me to let me know that we had been approved for the upgrade. The WC was totally unaware of this until my TA let her know. Karisma is the one who approves the upgrades but I don't think they communicate that with the WC's. Keep in mind we found out about 5-6 months before our wedding, so they might hold off to say anything to you until then. We booked about 15 months before the wedding. I think your TA might have to put in a request, so make sure to ask him/her .
-
Yes! We found out about a month or two ago. I thought it was based on when we checked in as well but I guess not, or maybe not all the time. These have to be approved by Karisma, not Transat and they will give your TA a code. Then my TA submitted that code to the WC so that they're aware who in the group has been upgraded. Maybe they wait longer when you're traveling in high season but the way I see it, they're not very likely to book a sky suite with just a regular booking, so they move the wedding people up so they can free up one of their cheaper rooms and make more money through a regular booking . A cheaper room still gives you more profit than unoccupied rooms .
-
What comes after the sky suite? The honeymoon one? I think if you really want the one after that you could do that but I agree with you, it was a lot of money, which is why we booked the one bedroom and then got upgraded to the sky suite. Even the one bedroom was a bit of a splurge for us because we wanted to pay around $1700 for our room. But we figured that it was our wedding so what the hell haha. The sky suite is nice to have people over and have a bit of a party up there but truth be told, we spend so little time in our rooms that it wasn't worth paying for it, in our opinion. Great! So you're on your way! I wouldn't feel too bad about not getting the sky suite because you will most likely get upgraded . I didn't know that, but a few months ago my TA told us we were upgraded from the one bedroom suite to that one and they also upgraded my parents from a deluxe room to a one bedroom! I didn't mind staying in the one bedroom but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm guessing it has to do with their availability. When is your wedding? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No worries. I was there a few months ago. To give you an idea we're able to have a wedding for 47 people for around $7000 (just for karisma, without counting photo and video, attire, etc) including he upgrades I told you about. With the new prices let's say the same wedding might be around $8000. And well, that's without counting the fact that our dollar sucks right now . I'll post the links to the new packages when I get on my computer. Then you can compare what's best for you Make sure that you book with a GI certified travel agent though. I'm getting my makeup and hair for free because of it, which really helps. Or you can get a free cocktail hour as well. Otherwise us Canadians don't get many perks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, so the $250 only includes the table set up but not the food but I think if you get one of the newer packages you get both, the ceremony with the decor and the reception decor plus the food. I think they're all for 25 guests and we have around 45-50 so it would have been too much for us. We got lucky and booked before they raised the prices for the food but it's still not too bad. I'm planning a reception in Argentina and the prices for food are actually higher than in Mexico. So that's the silver lining! Mexico is still cheaper [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
