Plus, I'm getting churros as a surprise for my guests so I don't want to go to overboard on the cake. However, I'm worried about my cake standing up to the heat in Playa Del Carmen, even in April. I really don't like the taste of fondant, but I'm worried that my cake will melt in the heat. I much prefer butter cream frosting. Is there anyway to make this work, or should I just suck it up and get fondant? I would email Zaida and see what she says about buttercream holding up down here. Even if you don't end up ordering from her, she'll be able to advise you one way or another. I know when we leave our butter out around the house down here it usually melts a little bit, so fondant may be a safer bet. Aside from the little bite with our cake cutting photo, I didn't even taste our cake our cupcakes! The night went by so fast and I totally forgot to grab one. With the excitement of the dinner, speeches, first dance, and entertaining everyone, you may not even have a moment to sit down and enjoy your cake. I love the idea of surprise churros! We has nachos and empanadas as our midnight snack surprise.
  7. I hired JSAV for our wedding too, but at a different hotel. A similar thing happened where the original quote randomly went up with a charge that wasn't there before. It was a charge for labour that apparently was forgotten on the first quote, however I had it in our emails that labour was included in the first quote. I called the person I'd been dealing with and told him that I wasn't ok with the new charges and negotiated the price down. Everything after that went smoothly with them and I was happy with their services. They set up speakers and a mic for our ceremony, and then moved the speakers to our reception area. The tech spoke English and played our ceremony playlist, dinner playlist, first dance song and party playlists we gave him. Don't stress! Just be firm and stand your ground. Sometimes prices down here in Mexico vary, that's just the way it works. Everything will work out in the end! You'll marry the man of your dreams in paradise and nothing else will matter.
  8. I'm not sure about Ocean Photo Studio, but the photographer, Susana, that I posted a couple of pages back from My Adorable Bridal is around $1500 USD. www.myadorablebridal.com Sorry I can't be of more help!
  9. You're welcome! Let me know if you are looking to rent any decor at an affordable price. PM me and can send a full list with pricing and photos. Happy planning!
  10. Thank you so much! We just got our professional photos back, and I'll be doing a post here with some of my favourites soon. Below are the blog posts for our day before shoot, and our wedding split into two separate posts if you'd like to have a peek. Our photographers (Luckygirl.ca) are from Winnipeg, Canada and are AMAZING! They will be here in Riviera Maya, Mexico for all of next March if anyone has a wedding around that time down here. Day Before Wedding Shoot: http://luckygirl.ca/blog/katy-mikee-e-session/ Wedding Part One: http://luckygirl.ca/blog/hk-wedding-fiesta-parte-uno/ Wedding Part Two: http://luckygirl.ca/blog/hk-wedding-fiesta-parte-dos/
  11. Hey Fareda! If you would like I could send you a list of some of the decorations that I'm renting out now that my wedding is done. I live down here in Playa Del Carmen, so I bought a lot of the decor rather than renting. I have lanterns, tables runners, vases, etc. Send me a PM if you'd like to see some photos and pricing. Congrats on your wedding a happy planning!
  12. Thank you! I'm a sucker for anything lace. Be sure to post your shoe photos here once you get them, all three pairs! I think that's a girl's dream, to have a reason to wear three different types of footwear on her wedding day.
  13. Hey ladies! Have a look at my post above if you'd like to rent some paper lanterns from me for MUCH less than the resort is charging. Congrats to all of you on your upcoming weddings!
  14. Hey ladies! I'm a happily married newlywed that lives down here in Playa Del Carmen, and I have some paper lanterns that I bought for my wedding in May that I could rent out to you. The only catch is you'd have to tell your WC that you brought them yourself to avoid the outside vendor fees. You'd also have to have the resort agree to hang them for you. $1,000 is totally outrageous for paper lanterns, criminal actually! Wedding prices down here are so ridiculous. I can rent 45 of my paper lanterns out with lights that hang inside for under $200. PM me if you'd like more info!
  15. I think the dress is beautiful and will look great in photos! Go with your gut instinct, when you know, you know. The one that made you tear up and feel like a bride is the one.
  16. Thank you! We actually had two photographers from Luckygirl Photography, Mairen and Rachael. They are so fantastic. It was great to put complete trust in them and not have to worry about the photos at all. Bringing them to Mexico was one of our best decisions! Here's a few shots from the first half of our wedding, from getting ready to cocktail hour. We haven't seen the photos from the reception yet since they are doing a separate blog post for that, but it should be up soon. Once we've seen that post they'll send us all the edited photos and a slideshow. Can't wait to see them all! I've shared a few of my favourites, and the rest of the photos can be seen here: http://luckygirl.ca/blog/hk-wedding-fiesta-parte-uno/
