Thank you, Melissa Thanks Melissa! The anchor totes are from Discountmugs.com. Our friend designed our logo for us as a wedding gift. He's very talented, and it was so amazing that he took the time to design and draw the logo by hand and then digitize it. We sent the artwork to Discountmugs.com and they screen printed it for us. I posted about the items I have for rent a couple of posts up, if there's any things you want for your reception decor but don't want to lug down here. I know you're still a year out, but browsing never hurt!

Insanity. They were the big long ones, but still. I ended up only getting 10 from her for some photos for when the sun went down. The planners left them out all day and night, and my husband, our two photographers, a few friends, and myself spent about 20 minutes in a hot, non-windy corner trying to get them lit. The humidity ruined them from being left out all day, and they were totally useless. No sparkler photos, just heat stroke from being in that corner for so long trying to light them. I live down here and can try and find some for you (for less than $4 a sparkler, of course), as I've been told they only sell them during Christmas and New Year's down here. I looked at every market and store from Feburary to May, and couldn't find them anywhere. I would have to make sure they are kept in an airtight container with dehumidflying flakes, and then you'd have to only take them out when you need them on your wedding night. Would you be interested in doing that? Let me know! - Katy
  5. Hello Gran Bahia Principe brides! Congrats on your upcoming weddings! This post is for any brides interested in affordable unique decor for your big day. I'm a newlywed from Vancouver, Canada that lives down here in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I have quite a few decor items leftover from our wedding in May, mostly in a rustic vintage style. I've decided to rent things out to brides that don't want to lug things like vases & mason jars down here to Mexico, and have priced things quite fairly compared to the resorts' prices. I have a lots of different types of bottles, mason jars, vases and lanterns, as well as a variety of other items like wooden signs & frames, table runners, rustic birdcages, string lighting and even a portable sound system. A lot of these items are very hard to find down here, and many brides have been happy to find my collection of wedding decor. If you want a Style Me Pretty or Ruffled type of wedding in Mexico without a huge price tag, I'm your gal! So far no one has had to pay an outside vendor fee at all, as they tell their WC that they have brought the decor themselves. I'm also always interested in buying items that brides bring down and would like to sell after their weddings, please send me photos of anything you'd like to sell! If you'd like to see some photos and a price list, please send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you all the info. Also if anyone has any questions about the area, ask away! I've lived in Playa Del Carmen for two years and know the whole coast quite well. Happy planning ladies! Here's a couple of photos of some items we used in our wedding and that are for rent, but I have lots more:

There's normally only a little bit of traffic as you pass Playa Del Carmen along the highway and people are turning in at various points into the city, or when you stop at stoplights. Traffic along the highway isn't usually a problem at all. I would account for that road into Blue Venado being a verrrry slow drive though. It's about 10-15 minutes from the highway into the beachclub because the road isn't paved and it's quite bumpy. An hour seems about right for the whole trip!

Love this forum you other brides are so helpful!! I was just wondering if anyone has used the resort photographer? We have a name Jorge Contreras but I can't find anything online about him or any photographs showing his work. Yikes!! Are most of you other brides hiring someone off the resort? Have you mananged to get a decent rate? Any help would be great! Talk soon! Amanda Hey Amanda, A friend of mine is a photographer down here in Playa Del Carmen and her rates are very reasonable, even when you factor in the external vendor fee. Some photos I've seen taken by the resort photographers look like they were taken with a point and shoot camera, or as if a guest took the photos. Resort photographers are usually paid a very low fee, and the resort keeps the rest, so that's why the quality is usually quite low. Hiring someone that works for themselves gets you a much higher quality for the similar price. (Under $2000) You also get many more photos to choose from and a lot more coverage on the day, at least 8 hours. My friend is named Susana Hidalgo and her company is My Adorable Bridal - http://www.myadorablebridal.com and she also has a Tumblr - http://myadorablebridal.tumblr.com/ Her style is very artistic and photojournalistic rather than posed stiff photos. She also does TTD sessions or day before photo shoots if you're interested in doing one. Susana was one of our wedding guests so she wasn't our primary photographer. We wanted her to be able to enjoy the day along with the rest of the guests and not have to work. She took some photos at our cocktail hour and during the reception but didn't have the pressure of covering the entire day from beginning to end for us. She took such beautiful photos, even though it was very casual and she wasn't really working! I hope this helps you with your photography decision, and happy planning!

However, after talking to my transportation guy, I have realized that my calculations on Google Maps didn't take into account real world traffic, getting to the Blue Venado itself from the highway, etc. In reality, it could take more than double the time (about 1.5 hours)!!!!!!! My friends are saying that it will be okay, that it will be like a party bus. However, I think that's just too much to expect from guests. Argh!!! Hey Tiffany! Have you made any progress with finding an alternate resort? I inboxed you a couple options, but I can keep researching options for you if you're still stuck!

  14. I've had eyelash extensions three times, and loved them everytime! Twice I've had them in Mexico, and the heat and humidity doesn't make them fall off any faster, from what I could tell. My friend did my set for my wedding as a gift. It was great to not have to worry about mascara in the pool and ocean, and my eyes always looked good for when guests kept coming and knocking on our door unexpectedly. (Which was constantly for the entire week!) Here's a photo of the ones my friend did for me. I can't remember what kind they are, but she said they were one of the high quality types (not mink though) and she used the longest ones she had, and lots of 'em. I wanted the big dramatic effect! I have a lot of lashes to begin with, so she said my eyes could handle a lot of the extensions

I hired an external wedding coordinator (not the one the hotel offered) and she did the translations for me. We used Floreria Jardin on Constituyentes & 30th Ave (5 blocks from 5th Ave) : http://www.jardinfloreria.com/ They had great prices and keep their flowers in an air conditioned room, which is very important with the heat and humidity down here. Our flower set up was a mix of mismatched bottles and vases with roses and baby's breath, so the arrangement skill wasn't very important to us when choosing a florist (floreria). Let me know if you have any other questions, and congrats on your upcoming wedding! Where are you getting married? Some photos of our flowers:
