  1. A travel agent is the way to go for sure - they will arrange a contract and be able to get perks you probably won't be able to get on your own...plus, they handle everything from answering questions to booking airfare...my best friend is a TA and is booking our group. If you would like her info, pm me and I will put you in touch and you can ask any questions you have. We are staying at DRC 10/1-10/8/10.
  2. I like that a lot - our announcement is going to be similar and we are doing it ourselves. I found the paper for about $35 for 200 cards, including envelopes, and the announcements are black and white so I am printing either myself on a laser printer or I may take them to the local printer. I really like yours!!

We have the same situation - guest traveling from several different states. My travel agent, who is also my best friend, has done a great job securing the best pricing for airfare whether through the charter or commercial flights. She also put together a package group contract for us so there are no suprises - if you would like to use her, send me a PM and I will hook you up!

No, I absolutely would feel no obligation to pay their pass. You invited guests to come to your wedding. Transportation, lodging, meals, and incidentals are always at the guest's will. If you were getting married at home, you would not feel responsible to pay for their hotel, parking, and transportation costs. It is no different. We have told our friends and family that we are getting married on vacation, and would love it if they choose to vacation with us. We have no responsibility to pay for any part of their costs, after all, it is their vacation, their decision whether to come or not, how long to stay, and what they will enjoy while they are there

  7. We have a guest who is contemplating staying at a nearby non-inclusive in order to save some $$$. We are not in favor of this, but obviously it is their money and their vacation. Does anyone know if Dreams allows 'day passes' and if so, what the cost per person is?

I'm thinking we might need to find a friend who can marry us! Wellllll...in my state, the marriage license is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued...we do not want to celebrate two wedding dates. And since my friend is an ordained minister, and we are not attempting to deceive the government for monetary/tax reasons or any such thing, he does not have a problem writing in the date of our ceremony in Mexico. As for if the state has a problem with it, well, I'm not asking! ha ha
  9. I will certainly post a review when i get back...i was hoping ana could arrange semi-private seating for us at one of the restaurants ahead of time instead of us just taking a chance on getting to sit together - I have been to other all-inclusives where they will not allow you to pull tables together when you have a large group, which just infuriated us.

We are not having a formal reception, and will have about 20-24 guests, close friends and family. We are planning to try to get semi-private seating at one of the restaurants. I would love to hear from others who went this route and how they liked it.
  11. we used mywedding.com - i looked at all of the free sites and thought they had the best selection of templates. we chose a tropical theme: Joe & Mindy - wedding website by mywedding.com
  12. I am also wearing a short/tea length dress. It my 2nd marriage, his first, and we are trying to stay as low key as possible while making it as elegant/classy as possible. I don't think I have enough posts to be able to post pics or I would post the dresses I have picked out..a good friend of mine is a seamstress and can recreate the dresses for me so I don't have to pay those big price tags.
  13. I am lucky in that we have a good friend who is an ordained minister...we are going to apply for the marriage license a month before the wedding, as is good for 30 days in my state. Then, he will marry us in our living room either just before we leave or as soon as we get back. We will put the same date on the marriage license as the date we are married at DRC We are not telling our family, I have only told my close friends that we are going to do the legal stuff in the states. I don't think our family would be upset at all, but I don't want to 'spoil' it for them, or for us, unnecessarily. I think our plan is brilliant For those who don't have a close friend who is an ordained minister, you may want to look into having someone close to you get their 'license' or whatever it is called to perform marriage ceremonies...I have heard you can do this online, and it is certainly an option we would look into if we didn't already have our friend
  14. i want to thank you for posting this diet - i am on day 5 and i have already lost 5 lbs! woo hoo! i'm hoping to take off 8-10 lbs by the end...you get tons to eat, in fact some days i can't get it all eaten, and it's everything you have around the house or can easily get from the grocery store, and soooo many food choices. i needed to take off the 9lbs i put on over the holidays, and hopefully i'll have them about gone in 5 more days! then i plan to go off the diet for a week, and go back on it again to take off a little extra in time for my BD photo shoot and dress fittings Thanks again for sharing this!
  15. Are any brides going to be at DRC the week of 10/1 - 10/8? We will be there all week, and are getting married on 10/4. I am interested in sharing the cost of a photographer if anyone has one they are bringing with them. Thanks!
  16. Hello everyone - we just booked our date w/ Ana today - 10/4/10. We will be bringing approximately 14 people with us. Our travel agent, who is also my bff and maid of honor blocked off rooms for our group today...this is beginning to be real! I had hoped that my other bff, who is also a professional photographer, would be traveling with us as well, but she is now blessed with child and will deliver about a month before our wedding, so I doubt she will be able to come now. So, I will be trying to communicate with other girls who may be bringing their own photographer the week of 10/1-10/8 and want to share costs. I have been on the forums for about a month now, and have found everything from BD photos (which I didn't know existed and now I'm so excited to do mine and have them bound into a book!) to discounted wedding dresses from overseas to lots of reviews about the resort. I know I have so much more to find out, but isn't planning half the fun?!
  17. I am also very glad someone started this thread! This is my 2nd marriage and my Fiance's first, and we did not want to spend money on a wedding...that is why we decided on a destination wedding. We have quite a few friends and family coming on the trip, and I do not want the ceremony to look 'cheap' - I am encouraged by seeing photos of simple/free weddings, and I know that ours will be just as elegant. I am excited for the brides who are putting on a large party and big wedding, I think it would be exciting to plan, but for us, that is just not where we are coming from, and I am thankful that we are able to just share the special day with our family and friends.
  18. We have a good friend who is an ordained minister, and he will be performing our 'stateside legal' ceremony when we return. I think we are going to do it in our living room the day after we come back from Mexico...the marriage license is good for 30 days, so we can put whatever date we want on the certificate. I have a good friend who is unable to attend our destination wedding because she is pregnant, and her and her husband will come over to be our witnesses, which makes us both very happy. I am a little afraid the Mexican wedding won't feel "legal", but I think I would be more unhappy doing it ahead of time, and then feeling like "we just did this a few days ago" when we are standing before our friends and family in Mexico. I was completely against getting married in the states until I figured out it was going to cost $600+++ in just legal fees to do it in Mexico...I would rather spend that money on our vacation! I still have some question in my mind that we may do the legal ceremony the night before we leave...I'm just not 100% certain yet...but either way, the date on the marriage license will be the date of the wedding in Mexico, so we will not have to worry about 2 anniversary dates. I also do not think we are going to tell our family about this plan because I don't want them to feel like they are attending a "fake" ceremony. I know this is probably not how they would feel, but I don't want to let anyone down after spending the time and money to come away with us to celebrate our day!

It appears to be some type of deck/patio. Thanks!

We travel often and we were, as was everyone in our group of 45 people, extremely pleased with the property, spa, food and staff. No one had anything bad to say. (However, some of the parents commented that they were mislead about the Emperor's Club. They were told before booking that they could leave children there and receive a pager, but once there that service was denied). Nevertheless, we actually referred several people to the resort before we even got there. We have nothing but great things to say to all who have asked about our trip back here at home. We're quite certain there will be a few more guests in the future, as well as a few within our group that have expressed interest in another visit there. Regarding our wedding. Ours was a week of sunshine, except for the two hours we needed for our outdoor pool gazebo ceremony. If you are planning a wedding here, the only thing you need to have is a good Plan B in case it rains. The resort photographers are absolutely amazing. They were kind enough to give us another photo shoot the next morning in the sun on the beach, which gave us an unbelievable collection of photos. If you want to see their work, here is the link to the slideshow they made for us Nelli & Ivica THank you for the review and your photos are beautiful - I actually prefer this location to the straw gazebo...what patio was this? I asked Ana if there was another alternative to the beach or gazebo but I think she told me there was not one...but I like the looks of this location even better. My fiance doesn't want to be married on the sand, and I really did not care for the look of their gazebo. What did you think about the alternate location?
  21. Does anyone have the prices for each of the packages? It was not listed in their wedding brochure. Thank you!
  22. I know in Mexico, the birth certificates, etc. have to be translated, and a blood test is required. Are these same fees involved in a Jamaican wedding? Thanks!
