  1. tracy, the town is called Higuey... GP may even have some day trips that go there. lots of shopping for traditional DR things. a former Dreams bride went there and wrote about it in her wedding review on here.. i can't find my link, but you can do a search for it. otherwise, google the name of the town and you'll find lots of information that way!
  2. elifrigo, which WC is having a baby? also nat, if you'd rather have your reception on La Barcaza if you have to pay for 20 people, why not ask Flori if you can just pay for 20 people but not have that many?
  3. michele, i love that dress! i am right there with you with a full-black wardrobe! i think i need some spice before april or i'm going to be blazing hot in the sun!! 4. omg.. they need to get their act together for sure!! nat, i am keeping my fingers crossed for your guest count! thank goodness for counting my photographer and videographer in my guests for dinner b/c otherwise i would be cutting it super close! i also recommend emailing her again and reserving just in case. i still have el patio reserved actually, just in case something awful happens and we lose out on la barcaza.
  5. hoyt - i would try to find another bride who has been married on the beach at your resort and see what her opinion is. i think the beach situation at each resort varies a little bit. some even put boards under the sand in the aisle just for that reason!
  6. toya.. omg.. that is ridiculous!! the card i gave them for our deposit was my parents', so i'm not 100% sure, but i don't think we have gotten charged yet, and i got my confirmation for my date on 3/3/09!! very strange! they just make it up as they go along sometimes i think!
  7. even though i'm so pale i'm practically albino (not really.. just irish), the tanning bed is like my prozac!! i only get a few minutes and i have only been a handful of times, but the warmth and being able to block everything else out is fantastic!! meli, i think i'm going to need SPF 1 million too.. wonder where they sell that? one thing people keep warning me about is the strength of sunscreen to bring, since i'm pretty sure the caribbean sun is a lot stronger than the sun in ohio! suzy, i loved your "something old" comment!!!
  8. hah!! tracy, i started going to the tanning bed once a week so the first exposure my skin has to the sun isn't in the caribbean. 8 freaking minutes later and i'm burnt!! lesson learned! i didn't burn at 6 min last week so i should have just kept it at that! i don't tan either.. my freckles just get bigger for the registry, we just kind of made it all up as we went. just made sure we picked out things that were smaller and not as expensive, but then a few big things too. we don't need a whole lot, so it was basically all stuff that we wouldn't normally buy for ourselves, but would be fun to have! here are my 4 things too: something old - my mom's garter something new - my dress something borrowed - i'm next in line for one of the BDW travelling bouquet starfish something blue - bridesmaids are signing the bottom of my wedding sandals in blue marker
  9. i tell you what... dating and now marrying someone that has a child is one of the most difficult things i've ever had to do. we rarely get time to ourselves and it's hard to be thrown into that situation, but i already know what kind of dad he'll be and we have been able to develop our "parenting style" together while not having a child together.. it's a truly interesting perspective and i'm happy for it. well you know, except for her mom, but she's not worth the energy to even think about! tracy, absolutely gorgeous. seriously. if i could look half that tan and fabulous for the wedding i'd be beyond ecstatic! shortnsweet, i can't wait to hear if you go to discovery cove!! i have been to disney world several times, but it's never warm enough to do that! sasse, your shower sounds amazing!!! mine is on the 14th and i can't decide yet if i'm excited or nervous.. i hate being the center of attention like that! speaking of the shower... i just checked our registries and people have bought things! i'm so excited! i'm rationalizing it because everyone keeps saying you need to make sure that the small dollar stuff doesn't all get bought up and the people who wait till the last minute aren't left with just expensive things. i also made up our AHR invites this weekend too. i have never used zazzle before, but it was the only site i could find that would let me just do a plain black background and use my pictures in any configuration i wanted! they'll be pretty inexpensive too i think.. around $1 each for 4'' * 8'' color printed on both sides!
  10. welcome back ash!! toya.. i'm so sorry, you know i'm a weekend forum slacker! i believe we ordered a dozen stems since there was a discount for ordering that many. that ends up being plenty for 4 bouquets (8-ish per bouquet), a centerpiece, 3 bouts and 4 hair flowers. i don't think you'll need that many, but i always err on the side of caution with that kind of stuff.
  11. i can't believe i missed this before!! they look AMAZING (and they smell good too?!)... so so classy and striking! just imagine how gorgeous all your pictures will be with them!! thank goodness you ordered well enough in advance so that the shipping issue didn't matter. it looks like they were well worth it though!
  12. i LOVE puppy pictures!!!!!! they are all ADORABLE!!! thank you so so so much everyone for your kind words about this nasty court situation. i think you all have it right.. it sucks everywhere! seriously, this whole situation has been going on for TWO YEARS!! i can't imagine how much worse it would have been if they had actually been married, but i'm quite thankful they weren't! we actually booked brianna's trip yesterday, which makes me feel really good, even though it's not for sure yet. at least we'll be prepared! shortnsweet, their situation is almost identical to your friends, except without the travel. it has gotten to the point where J and brianna's mom can't speak to each other without a lawyer involved.. it's unbelievable. she sends him texts all the time about how he doesn't do things right, even though he sees her more than her mom does (and she lives with her mom most of the time!). for some reason she's got one of those hard hearts where she can't see him succeed and she uses brianna as a weapon to get back at him. as an example: christmas day she was with us and it was supposed to just be till 5, but J also had her that weekend and he usually picks her up at 6. her mom actually tried to make him drop her off at 5 and then come get her again at 6. tell me how that is beneficial?? ahhh!! sorry for the crazy baby momma drama rant!! she's a crazy bitch, no doubt about that. only 11 1/2 more years till we're done with her

  14. you guys should look into kamilla harris... she is wonderful from what i have seen/heard and often does marathons for groups of girls!
  15. here's the thread for my BD shoot too: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-eyespy-45897/
  16. thanks girls!! the flowers are all real touch, and those are the main ones that are going in all of the bouquets as well. we ordered them all between save-on-crafts.com and usifloral.com. i decided i didn't want to risk getting flowers from the resort because i had such a set idea of what i wanted in my head. i've heard that the ones they have are great quality and they are willing to work with you to get you as close to what you want as possible!
  17. shortnsweet.. oh my gosh. i am so so glad your pooch is doing okay and you were able to break it up, but what a horrifying situation. that'll definitely keep you shaken up for a while. we had a similar experience to melidell, where a loose, neighborhood dog attacked both of ours while we were walking them and we had to kick them to get them off. it is really frustrating how irresonsible some people can be when it comes to pets!! tracy i am SO glad it sounds like your shoot went well!! hopefully your photog will send teasers so you can see! can i just say that the court system blows? at least in our county!! there are always court dates to set more court dates! so NOW we have to wait until APRIL 8th!!!! nothing like waiting till the last minute!! on the bright side, the magistrate lectured her mom saying that she should reconsider because brianna (j's daughter) could end up being really resentful of her for not letting her ago, and that she would also learn more there than she would during the 5 days of school that she'd be missing! he told us to go ahead and get her passport, so we consider that a good sign. we're also going to book her trip and just get cancellation insurance, just so we're prepared!! also, i got centerpiece pictures with my new flowers yesterday! these will go with a black table runner and a dozen votives. we only have 3 tables at dinner, so each one will get a different flower! the pink one won't look quite so smushed in the final product, but she wanted to show how pretty the color looked!
  18. here are my centerpieces... i have 3 tables at dinner so each one will have a different flower and also will have a black table runner and a dozen votives. i got those for a great deal from hobby lobby and the candle is already in a holder that will shield the flame from the wind on the boat!! also, the pink flower will not look quite so smushed. my flower lady through them together for me to see, but the color looks great on that one, so i'm not worried about it!
  19. melbeern, we're using pastor york, but we booked him over a year in advance. i'm a freakishly early planner.. i don't know what my problem is!! speaking of early planning, i actually did my BD shoot this past july. i think the price really depends on the photographer you get. plus you have to consider what you want to do with the pictures too.. if you want the photographer to make a book for you, that will be more expense. there are TONS of threads about DIY BD books on here though too! if you want to see my thread about my shoot i can post the link too. jenise, thanks for your kind thoughts and reminding me about the centerpieces.. i'm going to go load those pictures right now!! so the stupid trial got continued until april 8th.. nothing like waiting till the last minute, huh? the magistrate did tell her mom that she better reconsider keeping her daughter from going which is a really good sign. he also said for us to go ahead and get her a passport just so she's ready! we're probably going to go ahead and book her trip and also get cancellation insurance, just to make sure we won't have any issues if she does get to come. i think the whole wedding planning process has taught me to be very flexible!! a lesson i needed to learn anyway!!
  20. christine - my one recommendation is that you ask your questions here first, and if we can't answer it, then go to a WC. you'll get a much easier response that way, and it doesn't bog them down as much either! you're actually the first person i've heard of that has gotten through on the phone! my dress is an ivory/champagne color, but i think it's all about what looks good on you and what you feel comfortable in! let us know how the shopping goes!! we all LOOOOVE pictures!! speaking of which... if i get my butt in gear tomorrow i'll post my finished centerpieces! tomorrow morning is court to find out if J's daughter can come to the wedding... we're not too hopefull, but feel free to send good thoughts in our direction tomorrow!
  21. just saw this thread for you too: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...t-decor-55116/
  22. oh yeah, the deposit... nat is really the only one who i think had a deposit taken out. they told most of us that it would be applied to our final bill. as long as you have a confirmation email with a # and your date and time, you will be good to go!
  23. christine.. don't worry! the beauty of a DW is you can do as little or as much as you want! all personal preference!! i can tell you that as far as decorations go for the ceremony, if you're married on the beach you can have an arch or a huppah (which is extra) and you'd be all set there. the gazebo i believe you pay extra to have it decorated, or leave it alone and it's still just as beautiful. for your reception, it will look just how you want it to. if you want extra decorations you will probably have to pay for those, but there is absolutely nothing that says you need to bring things with you. the surroundings are beautiful enough on their own to not need anything else. for your dress, i'd probably order that as soon as possible. to get it in time you're going to need to get one off the rack or buy online since it will take too long at this point to order straight from the designer. the good thing is, those are usually the less expensive ways!! there are a lot of girls who order online.. just get measured, order it and then find a good seamstress who can alter it however it needs to be! and, as usual, anything goes for a dress at a DW. i've seen pictures of everything from short, real informal dresses, to long, cathedral-length trains! it's your wedding, it's up to you! good luck and please let us know if you have any questions... many of us have been researching for a while and we'd be glad to help!
  24. you should definitely do a search on here. both the Dreams PC and Dreams PB threads have a lot of information and also the forums at dreamsresorts.com have great info as well!
  25. katie424, i forgot to mention, holy crap i can't believe you have a flight so early after your bachelorette party!! that is insane.. you are one brave soul!
