  1. I told my parents that too.. but because my FI and I are just out of school etc., they weren't having that..
  2. Ugh.. I agree. I would rather not talk about it at all. Realistically, we don't expect anything from anybody.. doing a DW was our choice, and it will cost our families a few dollars just to come! That said, it is appreciated when people want to contribute! My parents have given us a dollar amount, his parents have said that they have decided on an amount, but haven't told us what it is yet. It might be a gift after the wedding, and while I would love to know earlier, and be able to use the money and relax a little bit about a few things, an after gift will be useful too (esp. for paying off those credit card bills!). After reading this thread though, I will definitely not be telling either side how much the other side is contributing! I'm not sure how easy this will be though, because I KNOW they will ask... any ideas for how to delicately manage this? My mother and I are quite close and I know she will want to know, and not understand me not wanting to tell her.. and it will be a big deal to her if they are contributing more (which I doubt will happen), but I don't want her to feel like she's not doing enough.. ok enough rambling.
  3. Thanks everybody for the advice! I really appreciate it! haha CherylMC - We were set on the less than $1500 too, and now are almost postively going to the RIU Ocho Rios too! In January too! The quote we have is $1780 from Toronto (leaving on the 16th).. do you mind if i ask when you're leaving? (This also hinges for us on getting a wedding date.. we are hoping for the 21st or 22nd.. but right now the only thing that appears to be left is the 22nd at 11am! - do you know if it is likely that more dates are avialable than those that are shown on the site? ie.. because of brides requesting dates that they aren't going to use?).. maybe I should PM this to you.
  4. ahhh I'm just debating about this.. what happened
  5. Hey! You could totally do that. If you only wanted the reception at ROR, just book it like a private event.. realistically, you could have any celebration you wanted there! (right?)
  6. thank you!! I love this site.. it's SO nice to get help from women who have been there!!
  7. Has your TA heard back from them? It's weird, because they say on the site you should hear within 10 days.. I know a lot of people are commenting on how busy the WC is at the resort.. maybe that's just it.. april is supposed to be super busy for DW's! Good luck!!! I just tried to book a date and there are like NONE left for January.. how likely is it that people requested dates that they aren't going to use and I will be able to get one?
  8. I know that the ROR is made up of two hotels (I think).. a deluxe suite wing (where the square pool is right?) and a regular wing (where the freeform pool is right?), but I don't understand what the ROR Club hotel is? Is that the name for the regular resort? The website shows the pics of the regular side.. but I am not sure, because I couldn't fully understand what our travel agent was saying.. and I want to submit a wedding date request, but I'm not sure that I'm doing it from the right site (or if it matters). Any info would be SO appreciated!!
  9. For thos who are now married (congrats!!!!), and those still in the planning stages, but who are booked with ROR. If you could do it all over again: - would you have chosen the same resort? - would you have done anything differently at your wedding? - any splurges that were worth it/not worth it, or that you wished you had had? Thanks, and congratulations to everybody!! I know it can be stressful, but it's so exciting too!
  10. Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but we're trying to plan a destination wedding, and the majority of resorts we're looking at are going to cost guests $1700 per person. We are worried that this is too much to ask people to spend, espeically with the economy the way it is etc.. I can't help but feel guilty, but I also don't think people would be happy if they paid 1200 and ended up at a crappy place.. so my question is - how much are your guests paying to attend your wedding and what are your experiences with this? do people seem to mind? (also, if anybody knows of any great resorts that are a bit less expensive, I would LOVE to hear about it!) thanks so much!
  11. Has anybody gotten married at Las Brisas Ixtapa? Anybody planning to? I'm seriously considering it, and dying to talk to someone else who might know more than me!
  12. Hi! To all of the recent brides, how did you find it getting married on days when there are multiple weddings? Did you feel like you were constantly running into other brides? Was it a turn off to see so many weddings during your vacation? Also, if music has to end at 10:30.. what did you do after (and did you find that having a 3pm ceremony gave you enough time for dinner and dancing?). What time does the s un set in early january? Thanks so much ladies!!
  13. thanks so much for that input!! It is SO hard not having been there, and so nice to be able to talk to other people who have looked into all of them! I definatelythink dreams will be... classier... but i don't know.. she keeps saying "i think your guests will enjoy las brisas much more".. so .. i don't know.. thank you though! And congrats!
  14. Has anybody gotten married/been to a wedding/etc at Las Brisas Huatulco? We were planning to get married at Dreams Huatulco, but my in laws, who go to huatulco (las brisas) every year toured both this january, and said that they thoght Las Brisas would be a better choice (more tropical, lush vegetation, flowers etc, more to do, beaches better for swimming, more private wedding area). If anybody has any insight I would love to hear it!! We don't know what to do! They are saying that if we get married at dreams, they will not stay there, and will stay at Las Brisas because they will be too bored at dreams..
  15. Hi ladies! I'm just wondering if anybody has seen/been to or heard anything about las brisas huatulco? We were planning to get married at Dreams, but my fiances parents go every year to Las Brisas and are very insistant that we go there instead. Their arguments are that: 1. Las brisas is much more lush.. it is like a botanical garden everywhere, with lots of greenery, beautiful flowers etc. . and is still immaculately clean. 2. There is more to do at las brisas.. at dreams, you have a hotel on a beach.. period.. at las brisas there are tennis courts, basketball, sports.. lots of places to walk/run.. etc. 3. They say that the beaches are better, there is a snorkel beach, and then two others, and that at dreams, you often can't swim because of the rough water. 4. They say there is no shade at dreams.. and since your options are be in your room, go to town, or be at the pool/beach, it might be a rough week for this reason. Overall, she said that she thinks our guests will have a better time at Las Brisas.. and now I'm not sure what to think.. is there anybody who has seen both or heard anything different? I would love some more info! thanks!!
  16. I can't believe it's Neen's wedding day! I wish we could be there to see it! Good luck BC bride!! can't wait to hear all about your days!! I might have asked this before - but can anybody tell me how much your guests had to pay for their trips? ours will be leaving from Toronto mostly.. but any quotes would be good! The best we have is 1775 pp.. we are hoping to find something slightly cheaper (planning to get married in Jan 2010), but not sure if that is a totally rediculous hope!~ thanks!!
  17. Hi! I'm thinking of getting married at the BBGE too.. I wish there were more past brides with reviews/pics! i think the resort looks awesome! .. has anybody gotten a group quote for travel?
  18. thank you for the responses! It is going to be SO nice to have this thread in the next year! thanks sooo much to everybody who has put so much time and info into it! (ie sunbride!)
  19. Hi! I'm planning to get married in mexico in early january of next year (2010).. I'm SO excited.. we are just getting ready to confirm dates/and a location, and it's looking like dreams tulum, although I'm nervous that they have more than one wedding per day! Anyway.. I'm really excited about finding this site! There seems to be SO much information, and it's definately nice to be able to talk to other destination brides! congratulations to everybody!
  20. Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I am thinking about getting married at dreams tulum, and I am hoping that some of you can answer these questions! haha im definately a newbie! 1) Does dreams tulum do more than one wedding per day? If so, what is this like.. I'm not a bridezilla.. but I really don't think I would want to share my day with another bride (ie.. one wedding at 3, one at 5).. and then for the dinner part.. having two wedding dinners across the pool doesn't sound very good to me.. if anybody could shed some light, I would really appreciate it! 2) We think we will have between 50 and 70 people come. Is this too much for dreams? 3) What is the best place to hold your dinner? I have never been to dreams and won't be able to go down prior to the wedding.. so any info/suggestions would be so appreciated! 4) Can you swim at the beach? Thank you! I hope this isn't the wrong place to post.. I'm new and so excited, and you guys seem to know so much! I'm hoping to get married in early january 2010 (if there are any dates available!).. I have so many questions.. so if anybody can answer them either here, or email me at carpea5@mcmaster.ca I would really appreciate it! thanks!
