I ended up with the natural hair kinky twists. My hair is natural and I didn't want to relax it, so a friend recommended them. I tested it out and really like them. I have had them in for 7 weeks now and I am getting them redone this weekend for the wedding. I might just where it down or put them up in a style, not sure yet. Here are some pics...excuse how I look, I just came off the dance floor at my friends wedding.
  2. I wasn't going to bother with it because I also thought it was a waste of $$$. Then I changed my mind when I saw my friends TTD photos. She got married in Mexico and I attended. She showed me her TTD pics last month, absolutely gorgeous! The next week I booked a session with my phootgrapher. I think the key to making them look really great, is just be natural. Don't over do it, and they will come out amazing.
  3. You ladies have great taste! I had purchased a pair of colorifics last year, and decided it wasn't the look I was going for. I saw these kate spade shoes and had to have them. They really work better with my dress. I can't wait to wear them!
  4. The boxes look really great. Those mints are really cute.
  5. Same thing happened to me and a few of my guests last week. We were flying out of JFK. I was very very pissed off. I should have followed my instincts and flew AA. Hopefully they don't cancel anything else.

I might just do this, so I can bring all the delicate items on board.
  7. Last week a posted a thread about flower monograms I wanted to complete because of my jamaica flower situation. I finally got them done. Well I have a large S that I am still holding onto because I think I want to use green hydrangea on it. I will post if it I I ever complete it. Here is the link to last week's thread: FYI I swear I got the letters the same size! MY FI was like why is the M so big! So I told him the large letter S which is for his last name is for him http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t37724

Not sure what resort you'll be at, but the supermarket in the Blue Diamond plaza (east of the airport, across from the new RIU and the Burger King) has small burlap bags of blue mountain coffee, mini liquor bottles, small rum cakes, and lots of snack foods and candies that are traditional Jamaican brand items that will make your OOT bags more authentic and unique than the ones just just contain your typical stuff like mosquito repellant, sunscreen, etc. Blue Diamond is easily spotted off the main road and is very clean and organized. Plus you won't have to worry about haggling with vendors, and is a one stop shop for everything you could want. In the same plaza is a pharmacy that has a few other souvenier type items as well....again, a local store so very cheap. Good luck! Thanks for the info. I wanted to include rum cake in the OOT bags. I will have to stop off there.

I should see if I can get them cheaper in Jamaica.
  10. I also think it depends on the dress, but I really like shoe #2. Very cute!
  11. Thanks ladies! I think I will bring the vases (5) on the plane with me so it shouldn't be too bad. I was thinking of shipping everything to jamaica, but the shipping prices are crazy also. Keep the suggestions coming

  13. I am having a hard time swallowing the price of centerpieces in Jamaica. I was considering bringing the materials down and having them set up, but I am not sure what problems I may run into doing this. I am not sure if it's worth it. So for the ladies who have done this, do you have any do's and don'ts ?

I do remember though, that if you have over 60 ppl the price really starts to rack up because we had 61 people and I begged them to not charge me for table/chair rental... It really is special though, walking down the lantern lit pathway away from the hotel... its like you're on your own private island. Flowers were REALLY expensive... and trust me I investigated all my options... For my bouquet, I really like the cybidium (I can't spelll sorry!) orchids and so I got them and them only (no roses) and it was HUGE, but 300 bucks... i.e. NOT cheap. They were amazing and look fantastic in my professional photos. I thankfully only had 1 maid of honor and 1 junior bridesmaid, so I worked with her on a regular bouquet for the MOH and a smaller (cheaper) for the JB... also I made up for the cost by not having flowers at my tables... instead I used vases filled with candy... but someone had the pineapple idea and that's super cute... I was told that the flowers are so expensive because most are imported... I also heard of someone going to a flower wholesaler in Montego bay (on this board I think) and got red roses and made her own bouquet... but I cannot remember the name of the place... I also saved on cost by bringing down my own petals (freeze dried and silk) for the isle and the petal toss... HUGE savings. I can post more pics if you'd like... Apparently sungold won't be posting my photos online as I didn't have their full package. Thanks for the heads up on the petals. I ordered some freeze dried petals and plan on bringing them down with me also. I am still pondering the bouquet and centerpiece prices. INSANE!!! I have until the end of the month to decide. I would like to get flowers in Mobay, but I don't want to spend time in my room putting flowers together. I will probably end up paying for the bouquets.

  16. I am always looking for a good place card idea, since I haven't decided what I am doing yet. I saw the idea below and thought it was pretty cute. I don't know if I am going to use it yet, but thought I would share so other ladies could get their creative juices flowing. I am sure you can get candy foil in a diff color to wrap over the gold just in case you don't like it. People always enjoy a little chocolate
  17. I have been looking for ways to spice of my reception site, without having to use the resort florist. The prices I was quoted were just INSANE. So I found this flower monogram idea which I plan to use either at the guest table, or the reception gazebo. I already bought all the materials, it's just a matter of getting it done. I am crossing my fingers that it comes out just as nice as the pics I posted below. I will post pics once it's completed.
  18. Traditionally for jamaican weddings the cake is usually a black cake ( jamaican rum cake), but since the resort charges too much for me to have one, I still wanted to give my guests a sampling. I couldn't find jamaican black cake that was packaged to go (if anyone has a vendor let me know), so I decided to go with these bacardi mini rum cakes. My friend went to the Bahamas recently and brought me a mini tin and the cake is pretty good. You get a good amount of cake, and I don't think they are that pricey either, you get a case of 48 4 oz mini cakes for $168. The tin is about 4-4.5 inches in diameter and there are 3 different flavors - pina colada, Original rum cake, and chocolate rum cake (the one my friend gave me). I plan on adding them to my OOT bags, as long as I can work out the shipping details. Bacardi Rum Cake - The Original Caribbean rumcake for a gift, a wedding favor, or just for the taste
