Now I'm worried though because I was also looking at something today about the sponsorship and being able to prove I can financially support my FI 125% above the poverty line... right now I'm a student with no income (unless you count my student loans). We don't graduate until May '09... but once we do it won't be a problem (we are both going to be pharmacists... so right now have pretty good job security). Argh... Maybe we do need to a hire a lawyer... any idea on what the total cost of a lawyer is roughly? becky, dont worry about the 125% support thing... in the event that you cannot personally guarantee that you can meet that requirement, your parents or other family members can also kind of co-sign your paperwork, and also any job you get and any job your FI gets or has is also a valid way to meet this requirement. we meet with our lawyer on feb 25th at noon, i will report back about the wait time. I mean, he's been here since he was 3, has a social security number, etc. heidi, ive missed you! hope your new job is going well! being a permanent resident does make the process easier. in other terms, reggie would not be in danger of getting deported because of a visa issue because he is already a permanent resident. in fact, reggie doesnt need to become a US citizen... he can live here on permanent resident status forever from what my FI explained to me. also though i want others of you to know that having a SSN doesnt necessarily mean youre safe -- my FI has a work visa, and he has a US SSN. the process should be pretty easy for reggie though. It takes a long time depending on which city your paperwork gets routed to. We had a mix of jacksonville and new orleans. It's such a crazy process. Just make sure you have as much proof of your marriage as possible for the interview: his birth certificate from canada with both his parents names on it(he has to apply for this from the province he was born in as it's probably different than the birth certificate he has), any joint financial document in both of your names (loans, mortgages, insurance, bank accounts etc), pictures as proof of your marriage and relationship, then all the rest of your immigration paperwork already filed. If you have any specific questions shoot me a PM. I don't mind at all as I know the process can be VERY mind numbing. Yeah they must be really behind, which disctict office did you apply to? Are you online for updates with your case status? We did EVERYTHING without a lawyer. While hiring a lawyer makes it easier on you and you don't have to worry about anything really they are expensive from what I've heard. We did it without one and did everything correct - so it can be done. lol The paperwork took me a couple hours at the most. mel, i cant believe you did it all without a lawyer. my FI is insanely nervous that if we do it ourselves we will mess it up so he insists on using an attorney. the cost for our initial consultation with a partner is like $285/hour, then you get billed in .2/hour increments if you dont use a full hour. you get charged fees for prepping your paperwork, and then filing it, plus the paperwork filing fee required by the government. -

Morg, my ticker just got into 5 month territory the other day so here's my list (which i stole from you and rearranged): Finished: picked place Wedding party got dress got second dress for civil ceremony made website designed invitations and STDs booked photographer picked out wedding bands for both of us mexico invitations picked out and ordered ordered my bouquet To do: booked our travel book videographer collected addresses SOME DONE send out save the dates order invitations buy his wedding band pick his outfit for wedding programs Welcome letter OOT bags and postcards Get everyone to book their trip Plan what adventures we will go on & organize group trips Book charter fishing Get dress hemmed bridesmaid gifts get shoes and jewelry planned ceremony music thank you cards get guestbook registered for stuff DOING THIS OVER THE COMING WEEKEND pre-cana class MARCH 1ST decide menus decide on flowers for ceremony and reception centerpieces Stuff I’m not doing: found TA engagement pictures Decorations NO veil, they freak me out writing vows (you cant if youre catholic) -
we chose the invites before the STDs because we knew i'd probably be doing my STDs as a DIY project. also, i basically made my FI sit down a few weeks ago and decide on invitations so that i could decide on BM dresses based on the invitation colors haha, so thats why my invitations were designed first

my boss and another editor and i have been screwing around with the printer and the color copier for like an hour and a half! finally my boss created my STD in a quark file and told me when i was ready to print to let him know and he will figure it out haha. he says i have to tell people i got my STDs at Kevin's Bridal

does friday night work better for anyone else? i can do either friday or saturday, no big deal to me. monika what about you?
-
I'm going to make my STDs out of 5x7 (fits an A7 envelope) cardstock I bought from Paper Source and an enclosure that measures 3 1/2 x 4 7/8 (fits standard 4bar envelope) to ask people to do a preliminary RSVP online so we can reserve the correct size reception space at the Westin. I'm getting really frustrated. My problem is that I can't find any templates online that are for feeding 5x7 or the other size that are for doing that actual size paper. Am I doing something wrong in searching? Does anybody have a template for these sizes? The only templates I can find are for printing on a larger sheet of paper on which you would cut to make two 5x7s, but that isn't what I want... Could I still use that template and just print one side and feed the paper into my laser printer? Should I just adjust my margins in MS Word? Should I download a template for Quark? Please help before I go Office Space on my printer because it's not doing what I want! I have a Xerox Phaser 7300 laser printer if that helps. TIA!

I got my ring! BLUE NILE ROCKS!
Maura replied to BarefootBride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
oh its really gorgeous! congrats! to answer your question about taking your ring off... i take mine off to shower and to go to sleep because i am the type who is prone to smacking the FI in my sleep by accident, and we agreed for the safety of his darling face that i should not sleep with my ring on to avoid injuries haha -
just bumping this because it's getting really close and id love for more ladies to join us!
-
omg i am dying laughing at all of these because i basically do EVERY SINGLE ONE! hahaha i can add another one: when you blow off plans with your "real" friends to get together with BDW girls whom youve never met in person but talk to every day on the forum and yeah, i stopped saying "my friend from the forum" because i got too many strange looks. so now i just say "my friend" and leave out how i know them. so funny but when becks and i met up for dinner when she was in chicago a few weeks ago, she was telling me how her FI thinks we know each other through a college friend of mine who works at the same company where rebecca works. although rebecca works in a dif office and has never met her LOL

"Upgrading" BM to MOH (long, sorry...)
Maura replied to foxytv's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
aw tami. im jealous i wish my sister and i were closer because of my wedding. she's my MOH and i almost wish she wasnt from reading how good your sister has been to you! i agree with the other gals, you should give her a card and tell her everything and how thankful you are to have her! if you tell her earlier in the day, you will really make her happy i bet, she can spend all day being excited about it!
