What do you want to know from us Married Gals?
Nrvsbride replied to NATASHA's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
That is such a stunning dress! Is your dress in that color as well? Absolutely gorgeous. Are you sure you can't dance in it? I would think that you could just by looking at it but you tried it on so obviously you would know better than me. I love it I think it is so pretty. But I would def ask to see if they can make it strapless. Maybe it will allow you more room to lift your arms and dance. -Glenda -
vendor tipping etiquette

Ok those were all general tipping standards for Hawaii. Go to this site which is a wedding planner's site, it breaks down all the tipping that you need to do and how much. Hope this helps: hawaii wedding planner, wedding tips, hawaii wedding coordinator -Glenda -
vendor tipping etiquette

Tipping: A 15% tip is expected by taxi drivers, bartenders, hairdressers and waiters, but don't tip in fast-food or self-service restaurants. In expensive restaurants or for large parties tip 20% of the bill. It is normal to tip staff in hotels. In more expensive accommodation there is sometimes a bed tax, often as high as 15%, and it is worth checking that this is included within the quote. -

Some more stuff I found... Mahalo for bringing up this often overlooked topic. Tipping can be frustrating or embarrassing if you don't have a sense of what's expected or customary. Here's some advice the Big Kahuna has gathered. Most hotels, shopping malls, and activities run shuttle busses that you can call on to come pick you up and deliver you to their location. A shuttle bus full of people - generally no tip. If the driver is nice and friendly, or if you're the only passenger or one of few, you might tip a dollar or two, even if s/he is only "picking up and dropping you off." If a van or car is sent specifically for you, it's probably a good idea to tip - $3 to $5 may be in order, particularly if it's a long ride. Activities can be more complicated, especially if you are working through a hotel or a travel service that has booked or arranged the activity. For further advice about tipping for activities, ask the travel service, your hotel concierge, or check with the front desk. Of course, you could send the money directly to the Big Kahuna, who will be sure to ... Nah, better not. Have a great visit! -

Tipping-- It's part of the American way of life to tip. Many service employees receive little direct salary and must depend on tips for their income. The following are some general rules: In hotels, tip bellhops at least $1 per piece of luggage ($2-$3 if you have a lot of luggage), and tip the housekeeping staff $1 per person, per day. Tip the doorman or concierge only if he or she has provided you with some specific service (for example, obtaining difficult-to-get theater tickets). Tip the valet-parking attendant $1 to $2 every time you get your car. In restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, tip service staff 15% to 20% of the check, tip bartenders 10% to 15%, and tip valet-parking attendants $1 to $2 per vehicle. Tip the doorman only if he or she has provided you with some specific service (such as calling a cab for you). Tipping is not expected in cafeterias and fast-food restaurants. Tip cab drivers 15% of the fare. As for other service personnel, tip skycaps at airports at least $1 per piece ($2-$3 if you have a lot of luggage), and tip hairdressers and barbers 15% to 20%. Tipping ushers at theaters is not expected. -

Service charge usually means tip in most places but if you like you can leave a little something extra since it is a wedding dinner but your not obligated to. I would find out what the custom is in Hawaii though. Hmm let me go google it for you. -Glenda -
How long for Hair and Make up
Nrvsbride replied to TammyB's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I would have Cain go check in and I would take a cab to get my hair and make up done and then meet back at the room later to be ready for Juan's pics at 5. I don't think 2 hours is enough. God forbid you don't like your hair or need to them to change something. You don't want to feel stressed or pressured. -Glenda -
Darn most of them are sold out! -Glenda

Buffet or Sit-Down?
Nrvsbride replied to BRENDASTAR's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I am also planning to do a sit-down. I agree with what Amy said, I still want something somewhat formal and I think guests will be sick of the buffets from the AI. But I do think that buffets can look classy if done properly. I think the white linen is a great idea. -Glenda -

1. RIU BRIDE your pic is so cute! It's always nice to see everyone. 2. Thank you so much for everyone's input, I love when people don't hold back and tell me what they really think. While I loved Toni Braxton's wedding I would never overkill it with the theme. I agree that it can be overwhelming and too much if not done properly. I was just thinking of doing the bags which will be in the rooms and then doing the cupcakes and the tables. I don't think I would have my bridesmaids in aqua with a white sash or anything like that. That would just be too much. And I wasn't going to do aqua seat covers with a white bow either. That would make me vomit. I just thought the cupcakes would be cute. LOL. And I would have no seat covers or else it would just be frilly and nauseating. Thank you Anny and Jenetta for sending me the knottie links. Everything looks so cute. I will def have to think about this. Thank goodness I have over a year. -Glenda -
Oh Tammy I forgot to ask is that one way or round trip? -Glenda
-
Oh perfect! Okay then I my FI and I will pay for all our guests. I wouldn't even want the price mentioned to them. I just want them to arrive and enjoy from the moment they get there. This is perfect! As usual Tammy you are my lifesaver. What would I do without you? And thank you Tammy M for your input, I also appreciate it. -Glenda

Ok so I don't know if any of you ever saw In Style Wedding when they showed Toni Braxton's wedding and her whole theme was based on Tiffany's Jewelery store. I was thinking of maybe doing this for my wedding. My FI and I don't want cake, we want to get cupcakes so I was thinking of getting cupcakes to look like the Tiffany's boxes, and then doing my OOT bags in that Tiffany bluish color but instead of the TIFFANY lettering in black I would do my name on one side and my FI's on another (I think a monogram would take away from the look). I was also thinking of trying to make my tables look like the boxes the way Toni Braxton did. I figured it is a nice shade of teal or blue or whatever the technical name is for the color that I could work it in with my wedding. And white is my absolute favorite color so it work perfectly the two I think. What do you guys think? Is this cheesy? Are my guests going to laugh at me? Def want you guys to be honest. -Glenda

I know in a lot of resorts in Mexico the hotel will provide transportation from the airport to the resort and vice versa if you have your wedding there. Does anyone know if the resorts in Cabo do this? For the Dreams girls does Dream do this? If not will the Dreams offer you a package so that you can pay for transportation for your guests? Or do you have to get outside transportation on your own? -Glenda

Rehersal / welcome Dinner
Nrvsbride replied to cancunbride2be's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
OMG that is so funny! That is so totally something I would do, like wonder off somewhere without a care in the world. Like one of my guests will be like "Where is Glenda?" and someone else will say "She's over at the One & Only Palmilla trying to spy on the celebrities." Such a "me" thing to do. -Glenda -
Most of the girls here (myself included) sent or are sending the STD's to everyone on their guestlist and then sending invites out later to the people they know (or reasonably believe) will come. I think this is the best way to do it. You can put your website on your STD and then people can RSVP on your website and let you know if they are interested in coming or not. From that number you can more or less get an idea for how many people you have to send a formal invitation to. Invitations are more expensive than STD's so it makes sense to only send it to those people that you know will come. -Glenda

Legally married...Before or after?
Nrvsbride replied to Nrvsbride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
My FI and I have def decided to have a religious/legal wedding at a church a couple of days before we leave. It will be just the two of us and a friend (so that she can be our witness and take a couple of pics) and I am loving the idea more and more everytime I think about it. I think it will be really romantic for just the two of us to get married in spiritual wedding. Then we will be free to enjoy Mexico and not worry about needles or translating stupid papers for close toa $1,000. I am really happy with my decision. -Glenda -
What do you want to know from us Married Gals?
Nrvsbride replied to NATASHA's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
You should post your pic so we can see it and see if we can come up with ideas. But I think Rebecca's idea is the best, you should get a less expensive gown for the reception. Maybe once you have a gown you can dance in, you won't hate the first one so much and you will be happy to have all your pictures of you wearing it. And def try Craigs List b/c honestly if I saw a gown I loved I would buy it used. I have no problems with this and I don't really care to have "my own" gown so you never know someone out there may really want your gown. -Glenda -
I am formally RSVPing to all your weddings. I hope you guys picked good food b/c boy can I eat!!! LOL. -Glenda
