  1. I think, if I remember correctly that it's not that far from cancun, but I guess there is a lot of construction and that's why it takes awhile? I could be wrong and thinking of something else, but I did look into Tulum, because I too really didn't like the idea of cancun at first, because all I could think of was spring break, but it started to grow on me, and my wedding is in october, so not near spring break, dreams is a family resort, and from what I've heard from people that have been there it's beautiful. If I didn't have to worry about cost for my guests I would have gone somewhere else, but I had to take that into consideration too. Good luck making your decision, I think that was the most stressful part (so far), once I decided on the location things got easier. Let me know if I can help.

How did people decide! And how does it work? Do you usually just work through the hotel, or do you work through a travel agent to get good charter flights and hotel packages for your guests? Thanks. I looked into Dreams Tulum a little bit, but my travel agent mentioned that it was quite a ride from the airport. Some of my guests will only be coming for 3 nights and I didn't want them to spend a lot of their time in a cab or bus. But I'm sure if you email the wedding coordinator there they can send you pictures, that's what I did. I do have a travel agent to that is coordinating my travel and my group and helping with some of the wedding coordination as well. Tammy(host) on this site is a TA and she is wonderful, a lot of people on this forum have or are currenly using her and have great things to say about her. I had already started my planning before I found this forum, otherwise I'd be using her too!
  3. I think it depends on the look you're going for, for your wedding. I'm only having about 20 ppl (i think) and I'm trying to keep things very simple, so for my sister we will probably look at bridesmaid dresses when I look for a dress, something simple, short in length, and comfortable for the beach, but I have seen some really cute dresses other girls have posted on this forum from J. Crew & Nordstroms. Most important I'd like my sister to be able to wear the dress again and ultimately I'll let her pick it.

I don't want people standing in sand, but I don't want to be inside either ( afterall, I could that at home..LOL). I am also concerned that Claudia is going to be hard to get in touch with... so far she is not very responsive. Hopefully she has just been busy and this won't be a stuggle. How have you been corresopnding with her? e-mail, phone? Thanks again Sherri Hi Sherri, I agree, the more details dreams can take care of the better! We're trying to stick to a budget for this, but I was going through everything the other night and we have pretty much blown the budget already and we haven't done much yet! I haven't decided on the reception site yet, its going to depend on how many people end up coming. I loved the beach reception idea, but FI made a good point, we are only planning that about 20-25 ppl will come, and it would look kind of funny to have only 3 tables set up on the beach, so I think we might do the terrace (I forgot the name of it) with the long table instead. We'll see, it will be so much easier to make decisions once we have a better idea of how many people will come. As for claudia, the first time I emailed her I got a response back within a day. The second time it was longer, but when she responded she also gave me a different email address to contact her at, so maybe the one I used is one she doesn't always check, not sure. I did hear that claudia was voted employee of the year or something like that, so that makes me feel a little better. Have you done much other planning yet?
  5. Yes, I think its still important to capture that initial reaction from both bride & groom, I am so torn on this one too!! I really want to wait, but I like the idea of a moment alone before, and I don't really want to miss the whole cocktail hour. This is such a hard decision!
  6. Kate, I LOVE the dress, I can't wait to go look at dresses, but I should probably start sticking to my diet first, so I don't cry when I go!! I would still go to your next appointment and try on more, and I think you'll know if that's definetly the one for you!
  7. That's a great idea to dress up DIY invites. I'm also making mine, I bought a package at staples and its the invite, the response cards, and envelopes for both. They are very plain, white with a silver raised border, but I'm going to print our monogram that I made on them as well, to add a little something. I figured invites are an easy way to save money.
  8. Hello! Welcome to the forum! I am a dreams cancun bride to be as well! I'm glad you're before me, maybe you can give me some tips about things that worked well or not so well when you get back! Let me know if I can help in anyway, I'm still in the early stages, so I haven't done much, but you will find a ton of help from everyone here on the forum!
  9. I chose El Dorado too! I've heard fabulous things about EDR and that is where I chose for my honeymoon! Steve loved the idea of the casitas with the lazy river right outside our room, these rooms are a little higher than what I budgeted, but our airfare ended up being lower than the budget, so I guess its a wash!
  10. Steve & I don't agree on this one, he really wants to do pictures before hand so that we have more time to spend with family & friends, I really want the first time he sees me to be when I walk down the aisle. He says, he is still going to be "wowed" when he sees me coming down the aisle. But I liked the way that Jonathan put it, about having a private moment before the ceremony and doing some pictures together before, I think I might be changing my mind about this. Steve will go along with whatever I want, but this might be a nice way to make both of us happy and I'll be less nervous walking down the aisle!

You must be so excited!! St. Lucia looks beautiful, tell us more about your plans!
  13. I know couple #3's story was so sad, I voted for them. I had written something to submit, but I needed to find a pic of us to submit with it and of course, never got my stuff submitted. I can't believe she chose to do all 3 for free, that is such a wonderful thing for her to do!
  14. We're going to go there for our honeymoon, we are getting married in cancun. I probably would have chosen EDR for my wedding if we didn't have our daughter coming. I've heard nothing but great things about it and I can't wait to go there and see for myself!
  15. Have you tried the salad spray things? Kind of like spray butter, but spray salad dressing, very lo cal & pretty good. I went 1 point over last night, I need to write down what I've used so far today, but so far so good.
  16. Welcome Jen! Let us know what we can help you with!
  17. I'm In! I started today (wednesday), just ate my breakfast, and packed my lunch & snacks. I'm going to use my treadmill tonight too!
  18. Definetly need to be in better shape to do this, part of me would like to because I know FI would LOVE it, but I really hate the camera on a normal day never mind in not so much clothing!
  19. Thanks Ann & Jackie, I know I need to get my butt in gear, I should just book her and get one thing off my list. I haven't had any luck finding anyone else that I really really like and can afford and Elizabeth is very good. I'll have to talk to Steve tonight and TELL him this is who we're going with, haha!

  21. I think it's a great idea! I'd probably want to do it the day before though, like others said it will be nice to just relax once the wedding is done!
  22. I'm still considering Elizabeth Medina as well, I understand exactly what you meant Jackie about the low side of expensive, she's pretty much my limit, and that may be stretching it. She does have my date available and I really need to make a decision soon before everyone is booked!
