Calgary Brides!

We didn't use agent or do OOT bags - we were very lazy!!! We didn't have an AHR per se, but did have a little party at our house about 2 months after we got back.

We found the BM dresses at Femme de Carriere (definitely not traditional BM dresses). I got my dress and veil at Evalina Couture and I cannot say enough good things about Evalina. I absolutely love that woman! She just "got" me. I had been to the Bridal Centre and Ethos first, saving Evalina's for last, and at both Ethos and the Bridal Centre, they could not seem to accept that I wanted my dress to have really clean lines and I didn't want strapless (it just does not look good on me). Then I went to Evalina's, and it was like she could read my mind. I ended up getting a Romona Keveza dress there and my veil was by Evalina. I know people who've had great luck at the Bridal Centre and Ethos though, so I think maybe they just weren't a fit for me, but could totally be for someone else. That said, I very highly recommend Evalina's!!!

Wow I am glad you had a great experience at Evalina Sherry.. I had such a dif experience. I just happened to get my dress there because it was $100 on the day of her big moving sale. The first time I went there it was on a tuesday (where you dont have to put down $150 JUST to try on dresses- most ridiculas thing ever) and liked some of the dresses but found Evalina quite abrasive.. when a vera wang dress I liked was a tad too tight, but was a sample so i had to buy it as is, she actually had the nerve to say to me 'but you will lose weight before the wedding right?' and I just looked at her and said 'um no, if anything i will be gAINING weight'. Totally turned me off.

Eeek. Who says that really? It is so crazy how people have such different esperiences at the same places. Good thing there are a lot of choices.

I wish I could have found the color I wanted at J Crew (they look so comfy and put together), but I just couldn't. I just picked up my fabric from Olga's yesterday, and I loooove it! Can't wait to see the finished products on my ladies!

Her name is Ling, and she lives in Hawkwood (NW). I don't have her number anymore, but I have used her for my sisters wedding and she used them for BM dresses for another wedding she was in. Her name is Lin Chow 239-5485

The lady at Olga's also gave me two other referals

Nina (in Crowfoot area) 241-9404 and Juan (Kensington area) 282 6110

I think I will re-check out the firtst lady, but also "interview" the others for pricing and work. Lin was great to design and make without a pattern and reasonably priced.

Tell your gf if those areas don't work for her to phone Olga's and ask- the owner there has people she will refer to all over the city.

Thanks for the great thread ladies and all the links for different things! I love the look of the JCrew dresses - is there a JCrew store in Calgary somewhere? I live in Red Deer but expect that I will be doing my dress shopping in Calgary or Edmonton mostly. Great advice about bridal stores - I am taking notes for when the time comes!

Hi Sheri,

J Crew can be ordered online as it is an American store.
Kind of nice (even though it is a drive either way) that you can justify dress shopping in both Cgy and Edm. They do have some designers only carried in one city or the other. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
