Hey Joy, I'm doing the civil ceremony, my fiance was raised Catholic, but I wasn't. My fiance said he called the Illinois State Department today, and they said that apostille documents don't expire, but they are dated, and some countries require you to have them within a certain date...but the guy on the phone didn't know what time period Mexico required. I'm going to send an email to my WC and see what she says...if the date on them matters at all. I'd really like to get that taken care of as soon as I can...just to have all the papers in order would be a huge relief!! I can let you know what I find out for sure!!

We were married in the catholic gazebo - and had the legal ceremony as well - the "legal part" was first with the mexican justice of the peace and it was about a 10 minute part of our ceremony - signing the documents and fingerprinting the certificate - and then the catholic priest did the rest of the ceremony - we had no problems at all and once we got back to the states I took our marriage certificate from mexico (the resort translates it for you for a fee I don't remember - but not that much $$) anyways I took it to the DOT, and the Social security office and had no problems at all. I was actually surprised at how smooth it went -

Also about your mom riding in the carriage - it's not that big - so as long as your parents are both kinda small (my dad is a large man and so there wouldn't have been any room for anyone else :) ) I think it would work!! Good luck - that resort is amazing! I haven't been on here for a long time but I love reading these MP posts because it brings back all the great memories!!

Hey Betsy! Thanks for the info! It's helpful to know that the resort will translate the marriage certificate to english - I was wondering where I'd ever get that done!! It's nice to hear from people who have already had their weddings - sometimes I need to remember it all works out okay!!!!

Since we were in Mexico, I really wanted mariachis... so I had them come in at the beginning of my reception (not during the cocktail hour).

As far as hearing the music, you are on the aisle/walkway for such a short amount of time (even shorter in the other gazebos) and there is so much going through your mind that I am not sure how loud the music was. I vaguely remembering hearing something, but I can't really say how loud it was. I really don't think it is a big deal because everything happens so fast... Inside the gazebo, the volume was not an issue.
I don't know if this question was already asked or answered, but who stops and starts the music during the ceremony (ie. for the processional and the bridal entrance), etc?? Should I assign someone in the wedding party that task?... Thanks!

A staff member will be in charge of this. Just bring the cd, a list of the songs, and the order to be played in.
