Hello Everyone.. My name is Erika and I am from the DFW/ Texas area. I would like to get married in St. Thomas, USVI. I am still sorting out the details. Planning on going on NCL Epic Cruise on Dec. 2010 and getting married on one of the ports. I still looking for specific locations, but like the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa. No WC yet.

Has anyone heard anything about it? Thanks for any information that can be provided.

Hi Everyone,

I am so worried about my wedding. In the beginning I have been able to get in contact with my WC immediately but now that we are closer, I'm having a hard time reaching them. They did let me know that they are on the beach most days and when they come back to the office they don't feel like working. I know that things are laid back on the island but that is driving me crazy. Do you think I should try to find another planner? My wedding is on Nov. 10th which is coming up pretty soon. I already know of one other wedding on that date. Yes Ashley I'm talking about your wedding. (SMILE). How are things going with your planners?

Hi Everyone,

I am brand new to this forum. I am recently engaged as of May 2009 and planning a destination wedding. We are interested in the Virgin Islands and I am interested in the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort in St. Thomas. We are planning to get married in 2011, but can't decide on a month. Looking at Feb or late Apr/May. Does anyone have advice as to the best time to travel there or when rates may be reduced? I'm also looking for advice on if I should hire a wedding planner or just go with the hotel planner?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

shakeimap,

I don't know who you are using, but I would be concerned about them saying that they don't feel like working! You may want to reconsider who you are using! There is no reason for you to have much difficulty reaching them at this time of year, yes, there are busy days, but it is also a slow time with nothing doing!

tiffanyan02,

Going through the hotels is much costlier than going through a wedding coordinator off property. Do your research first! Also, no 3rd parties to get involved. Hope this helps!

tiffanyan02,

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. I also like the Wyndham Sugar Bay. Do you have a specific location within the resort in mind? like the garden, gazebo, or the beach.

The Knot Guide to Destination Weddings says the following:

"GO: The best (and busiest) time is Dec. through March, though April and May are great options if you want to avoid the crowds and save some cash.

Don't GO: Avoid hurricane season, which runs from June through Nov.,and don't forget about spring break in Feb. and March--Some areas may become crowded with college-age partiers."

Hope that gives you a better Idea of when you want to set your wedding for. I am working on doing the research for a Dec. 2010 wedding. I originally wanted to have my wedding ceremony on the beach, but now I am looking at the Gazebos. I am not sure if deciding to go with the Wyndham we are required to use their planner. Still looking into those details... Hope the information helped. - Erika

Westxgrly,

I am actually in final contracts at the Wyndham after the Marriott took way to long to get back to me. The contact at the Wyndham has been really nice and efficient. We are actually getting married in the St Johns Terrace location and the reception will be in the Mahogany room. We were going to do the beach, but the way to get there is difficult there are 100 stairs.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
