I'm having a big second guessing my decision dilemma. I absolutely love Playacar Palace and Playa del Carmen but as we're doing the guest list I'm wondering if it will be enough space for our group. We have 200 people on our guest list (were inviting everyone we would if we married at home). So, I am thinking we will have about 60-70 people. I am starting to feel that Playacar Palace is too small for my group and I feel a little guilty making people have a 4 night minimum stay. I have never been to cancun and I am not sure if we will be able to visit moon during our trip. I have only seen reviews that moon is isolated and that the beach is gross. Does anyone have any input, everyone I ask says oh whatever you want... I really am confused, but we are about to set up our room blocks

I would describe that beach more like Beautiful !!! wishing you all the best with your plans - cheers!    team MTM :)

I'm very curious to know why you think Playacar can't handle your group? I did one of Tammy's webinars earlier this year on Playacar because it was one I was looking at until I found out it was way out of my budget. The rep that was on the webinar was great and seemed very on the ball and informative as far as their facilites.

I see you're in PA. Do you have a travel agent yet? Why don't you contact Wright Travel here and try to speak with TA Wendy. She was on the webinar session and Wright has excellent relationships with Palace resorts. They'll be able to tell you right away if there is any concern at all with your group size for Playacar. Right off the top of my head, I would say no.

Good luck!

I think you will know your guests best and what they prefer. Personally the largeness of moon palace was unappealing to us because it's SO large and we prefer more intimate resorts where we can easily spend time together. We went with Beach Palace because we liked the smaller size, but also we liked how it was right in Cancun so ppl could easily go off resort on tours, shopping, nightlife, etc

Keep in mind also that you can use amenities at other palace resorts. When we were at Beach for our site visit, there were tons of Moon guests there to use the beach! Likewise we expect a lot of our guests to go to Moon for the day if they want to golf, use the pools, etc. I'm not sure if there's a shuffle to Playacar too, but definitely something to think about :)

I love playacar personally but it was already booked up for our wedding week

Thank you it sounds good. I am worried that we won't block enough rooms and our friends and family will be stuck in other places since playacar is so small. We are planning to block 10-15 rooms and add more if and when needed. Also I am nervous because Playacars spaces have a max of 60 people, so if we have more we will have to hope they can accommodate us. I'm also worried that the rooms will sell out and we will have guest staying at other resorts

In situations like this, your TA is your best friend, so I will definitely advise again to speak to whoever is helping you, or talk to Wright. They don't charge you so you could get info without worrying about cost but it would give you piece of mind. They'll be able to tell you what you're up against.

If you want pretty turquoise water don't do Moon Palace, it's more of the dark blue. The beach was full of seaweed as well. I agree with someone else Moon Palace is ginormous! If you do room blocks it should guarantee enough space for your guests. We are at the same point right now and my TA has recommended it is better to block off more than not enough.

60 is honestly a lot for a destination wedding.   We had been HOPING for 60, and we got about 40 which seems to be about average... so not to be pessimistic, but as a head's up, 60 might be fine.

I'd just be very upfront with my guests and tell them that there are only so many rooms available, and if they want to book, reserve asap.  If your heart loves Playacar, definitely choose it.  I was thinking about making all of these concessions before for people that ultimately now aren't even coming :S - so I'm glad we ultimately chose the resort we wanted instead of settling.  Your wedding isn't until 2016, so I'd imagine the resort is nowhere near booked now.

We have decided to go with Moon. We have a very large family and group of friends. We feel that 60 is the number that is pretty safe for us to guesstimate with. When I was looking at the locations at Playacar, 60 was really putting us out of options.

Highly accurate on the beach/water! We were considering DRC, which is in the same area as Moon Palace, and we decided against it because of the beach/water.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
