@TinkerSofi, Absolutely.  That 1 person free value spread amongst a few people is a nice savings!

@calgarybride2015  @TinkerSofi  I may be in the same boat, let's see! Our first deposit deadline hasn't approached yet but it looks like we may be in the 50+ range as well between our actual guest list and many of their plus 1s! I can be wrong since deposits aren't due yet and maybe people will not come who have been saying they will. Since many of them are from my fiancé's side, I'm ok if many don't make it....is that bad to say?? lol I want those closest to him and us to be there of course, but everyone else I'm ok with not being there. Our package only covers 30...I'm afraid of those additional per-person costs!

I found that most people who said they will come will, even if they don't book with your group. I don't think I had anyone say that they were coming and then changed their mind. I do suspect however that for those planning their own trips, some will drop out for whatever reason (either they can't find something in their price range or something else comes up). Also, most will wait until the bitter end. Our official deadline was yesterday (with the actual travel company) and we still have people booking! haha. Thankfully our TA is super nice and still booking them with our group. We already went over the 30 people we reserved at the beginning so I'm guessing she got some more for us :).

@TinkerSofi So hard to plan for details when you don't know until the very end what your actual number is! I will probably end up booking the larger reception venue just in case. There is only one area at my resort that holds over 50 - I was kind of hoping we wouldn't need that area but I will be afraid of booking a smaller area and then have last minute bookies! I will see where we stand after this first deposit and take it from there. It's great that your TA was so helpful with this!

Lol. It's WHY we are planning so far in advance- so they can commit to us and not make other plans! To be honest we are so blessed to have so many people commit to us and put down their $$ to attend out wedding so far in advance but they really want to be there for us and many of our friends and family take at least one big trip a year so giving them a reason to book and get a good rate was reason enough for most.,,. Or maybe they are just scared of me! Hahaha

I Made it really clear that our RSVP date is September.... 16 months before our wedding. If you don't RSVP by then and then decide at the end you want to come- it will have to be a pretty important person for me to change our plans for you.,, but all the important people have booked so I will likely tell them it's too late! Haha

Personally 1 month 8 months 12 months or 16 months if they want to come they will. If they don't they will say no and/or have an excuse. There is never a happy medium it seems. We do it with their intentions at heart but we all know how it goes :)

I get life is hard to plan far out but for work and expense this is much easier

We thought the more time they had the more likely they would be to book because they have more time to pay it off. Most of our friends are just graduating from university or getting settled so they appreciated the time. But calgarybride2015 is right, those who really want to be there will be and others will find an excuse. There are still people who haven't Rsvpd or who aren't sure if they're coming. for now I'm going by them unofficially saying that they're coming and counting them in but I'll ask them closer to the date when I have to start making payments. I'm expecting about 10% of those who didn't book now to come up with an excuse later but that's the nature of destination weddings :)

This is all true, where there are some people that have legit reasons to have to wait, most who are wavering could make a decision in advance. The way we are "booking" people is a bit different than most people in this forum, since we are doing it through our family timeshare. Basically we have had to put down the full amount of the rooms a year in advance, but have up til a month before the wedding to cancel for a small fee. So weve collected money from a lot of people, we actually put the money down on the friends that were committed and I guess now we should start collecting it back lol
