Anyone Else Overwhelmed With Cost?

^^ or if she means local to the wedding location you have to consider what your fee will be from the resort from using an external supplier

I'm starting to worry a bit but since we have over a year until the wedding I'm trying to keep calm. I'm buying my dress in January and will start my shopping then as hopefully I'll have an idea of how many guests are coming. Hopefully the guest count is like 20 or 30 so I don't have to worry about a traditional private reception

Man who would've thought even destination weddings would be stressful!

My FI had the same issue at first. He couldn't understand why they were so expensive. He also suggested the same thing, to buy a nice camera or get someone with a nice camera to take the pictures. He thinks pictures were going to cost like $200. I laughed and tried to tell him different but he figured I should shop around to get the lowest price. I told him that most photographers will charge roughly the same. They are out to make the money if they are good at what they do. We are paying for a service and that industry isn't cheap if you want good pictures. As soon as they find out it's a wedding for anything boom we are paying more it seems.

My friend got married recently and he asked her how much she paid for photography and she said around $2500 and he told her she was crazy. She said that she shopped around and when she found someone that was cheap, then their pictures weren't that good when she checked online.  So you get what you paid for basically. Then he kind of understood then. Although he still thinks it's ridiculous what they charge.

@@tygrrlily,

My FI basically wants a good party too. He wants to make sure that this is going to be a good time for everyone. He just doesn't think it should involve giving our guests favors and things...haha just booze and party.

And the men (mine included) think Mexico photography is expensive, they clearly haven't seen what Canadian photographers are charging for the same thing!  it's a deal!   Most of my Calgary friends paid more than $4000!

I think we are sitting around $15K right now for the wedding, I had wanted to spend $12K then realized I can't skimp on things that I thought I could.  We also had a lot more people RSVP than I had budgeted for.

Our budget keeps going up too. Originally we wanted to do $15k, including our travel. Then we decided to stay for two weeks and upgrade our room, which puts our package (including 2 kids ) to $6500 including travel insurance. The actual wedding (and but wedding I mean ceremony, venue, dinner and dance), we are looking at about $5000-$5500. Then add photography (1700), attire, rings, hair and make, extra decor and bouquets, oot bags, a group activity , spending money etc... We are now looking at just over $22k. Holy eff. We are still doing better then if we got married at home, but it is sure adding up fast. We really don't want to skimp since our family and friends are paying to come and taking the time to come. I just our budget has covered it all. Our goal all along was to come out of it with $0 debt

is everyone already booked? We were running numbers today and since a lot of people said they would not come, our wedding will actually be cheaper than we thought ahaha. We also wanted to have 0 debt at the end of it but we might have to put a few things on my line of credit. We're almost done paying for the trips but actually considering staying 2 or 3 more days after everyone leaves as our honeymoon.

Our numbers are similar. Our trip is $5066. Our wedding costs to the hotel around $4500 and our photos $1600 then the allllllll extras.

I also hope to have 0 debt at the end but didn't factor in the exchange rate and we will lose about $750-1000 in that grrrr so that may be the debt we encounter... but we budgeted to save all our wedding expenses by November, so December we could focus on Christmas and my kids' birthday so hopefully in January before we leave we can make this up!!!

I told everyone our deadline is tomorrow but it's actually Aug 25th and I have a feeling that some will wait until then haha. Most of them booked over this weekend. One of my friends RSVP'd right before she went on vacation and she thought that goes to the travel agent but it doesn't, they have to fill out a form with credit card info, etc. When I tried to contact her she had already left for Mexico so she'll be cutting it close, coming back on the 24th.

Yeah our costs are pretty much the same. We're spending about $4000 on our trips, insurance included and around $6000 on the wedding. Then adding on another $1300 for the photos and video so it's a bit over $7000. I find the little details are what adds up, the things we need to bring from here, etc. I bought my wedding band a while back and it was expensive, around $600   haha but I thought, "it's the one thing I'll wear forever" so I needed to buy the one that made the set with my E-ring.  The costs are still much better than if we had done it at home and we can't compare the scenery so we're happy with our choice. We're expecting around 35-38 guests, less than our 50 that we originally thought but that's actually a nice number :). It feels nice that our budget was actually enough.

@@TinkerSofi I can't let my FI see that your band was $600... He will kill me! Mine is $2200!!! (The matching one to my e-ring). I told him that was standard for bands! Shhhhhhhhh

Our budget is going out the window... We are now looking at about 85 who will book by our deadline in a month, (62 booked as of today), and I'm realizing that even with DIY projects, the entertainment and private events alone are gonna put me well over the $15,000 we were hoping to spend on the actual wedding itself. Thankfully we have earned credits with our TA making our travel cost free and having some more remaining to help cover the costs of our kids and help a few family members... But it's certainly not cheap. Oh well! It will be a trip of a lifetime and a perfect way to start our new life as a family.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
