I am inviting a local photographer to the wedding but I also would like for her to be our wedding photographer. So how would we work out her compensation? Do we pay for her room or do we just pay her what she usually charges? Has anyone ever brought their own photographer from home and if so how were they compensated?

I attended a wedding show before we went to Jamaica and asked one of the photographers there how she worked it. What they did was cut their rate by half and you paid their travel. But they worked pretty much the whole stay so wedding and different shots of the couple throughout the resort during the time they're there. If your photographer is also a guest though, that's a bit different.  Best bet would be to talk to her and see what she is comfortable with, and also is she going to do shots at other times, or just the wedding? Sorry - that's assuming it's a she. Either way though best thing is to discuss it in advance.

    Happy planning!

You really just need to talk to that photographer, and see if she'd like to attend as a guest, or work the wedding. And if she's willing to work it, then you can work through the financials of it.

We brought our photographer with us, and she's a dear friend of mine. I told her that I wanted to hire her to shoot our wedding, but only if she'd also be able to enjoy the event as our guest as well. Luckily she agreed to do it for us.

We paid for her travel (air & hotel), and agreed on a fee for her services. We negotiated only for day-of photographs for a specific time period. She was gracious and threw in photos of our welcome dinner, and also getting ready photos.

So you really just need to talk to your friend and see if she's interested, and then what you can work out financially.

I have a friend that is doing my wedding as well. We have worked out an amount that I will pay him for his services, but I'm not paying any hotel/airfare. He is using my DW as a vacation and going to the destination even before I get there with some of our other guests to enjoy some vacation time.

We have also mentioned to him to tell anyone local to our destination that he is shooting the wedding for free so he doesn't get in trouble with any immigration laws of working in another country. The majority of the time he will be there will be vacation for him, but he will be our photographer/guest at the wedding as well.

We are flying our photographer down as well. I am paying her based on a 5 night stay/flights.. And if she chooses to upgrade to 7 nights she can do so. She is one of our favorite photographers locally and does amazing work.... Plus she is originally from Mexico so can easily work with our WC on site and we will be having an assistant assigned to her to help with lighting/equipment

The photographer is definitely female and yes there will be photos throughout the entire stay. I was just trying to get a feel of how this whole thing should work.

      Thanks
I don't think we will be paying for air & resort stay plus service fees. If that is the case we can use the resort photographer. But I was just trying to get ideas so that when we talk I can have a general idea of what others had done.

      Thanks

I would talk to the person to work something out. Usually, if you bring a photographer with you, it is assumed that you will pay to bring them (flight & room). But I believe they work more than just the wedding.

I take photos myself (did a DW last May in Mexico). But we have three separate photographers (family) that are attending our wedding. I know they are taking photos all weekend for us and making slideshow DVDs for free. So almost every moment & all 50 guests will be photographed. We have the best support system ever!

I am also bringing my friend who is a photographer to our wedding. We paid for his flight/accommodation package which will be credited back to us as a promo refund through our resort anyways. Then he will shoot everything - I mean everything from AM to PM for the wedding. He charged us an additional $750 dollars for the shooting, engagement session and then also I will get all images from him. He happenes to be my friend so its a good rate
