I believe that the $1800 for the dance floor is optional. I've read that a lot of brides that chose not to do the floor have had fun beach dance parties on the sand and that fine too. I probably won't go with the dancefloor option as I find it very expensive.

We are thinking of doing the reception at the chillout but I don't know if the chillout has it's own dance floor or if they move the dance party to the beach area after.

That's a good question. We are a small group so I am hoping we can move tables to make a small dance floor.

I am just wondering what you guys are doing for hair and makeup? Are you using the onsite salon?

I'm not so worried about my hair but I would like to have my makeup done for the big day.

Has anyone heard any reviews?

Hey!

Hair and makeup:  My mom is a hairdresser, so doing a combo of having her do it and doing it myself.  I've heard its a good idea to bring lots of pics or to get your own stylist at home to do a trial and take tons of pics and bring with you.  Pictures are better than words.  I can't speak for this specific salon though, sorry.  I feel like hair can be slightly changed or salvaged if its not exactly perfect.

Makeup:  My photographer recommends airbrush makeup for the humidity, so I'm going to try to get that.  I may just buy my own nice Dior airbrush foundation and do it myself as well.  I'm also super obsessive with makeup and have heard so many horror stories about girls having to wash it off after having it done at salons in Mexico because some tend to do it really dark, mismatched etc.  I wonder if they would do a trial?    I looked into an outside makeup artist (MVP looked really good), however this resort does not allow outside vendors except for photographers, from what the coordinator has told me.

I've booked my wedding for the GSP for Nov 19, 2015.  I'm having my ceremony at the sunset gazebo and doing the Chill out bar for the reception.  I was also thinking that the dance floor at $1800 seems crazy overpriced.  I'm already pushing my budget at $100 per person for the Chill out party, I'm guessing we will have 50-60 guests.

Does anyone know if you have the Chill out party (the indoor one, not the beach one)  and I book the DJ, can I just move tables and create a dance floor you think?  I'm not sure if I will even have the option of dancing on the sand since I'm not doing the beach party.

Any info or suggestions from previous brides or guests?  If we can't dance at all then I may not book the DJ at all.

My second question, how did you guys decide on menu option for private buffets?  I'm leaning towards Mexican or BBQ, any suggestions?

I just asked if we can move tables to make a dance floor. I haven't heard back yet.

I am also stuck on the buffet. Grilled was suggested as the most popular choice

@Sara1603  - good question.  Let us know what you find out.
I just  heard back from Guillermo and I thought I'd share the info.  It's not related to what we were all talking about but it might be of interest to someone!  lol  We asked him how much the day passes would be for guests staying at a different hotel.  He said $95usd per person.  access granted from 9am to 2am.  Full access to resort all inclusive perks except the a la carte restaurants.

That's awesome. My resort charges darn near the same BUT they can only come on one hour before wedding until the time it's over. So basically they pay to come on and all they consume is what I'VE paid for in my package. Seems like a rip!!

Yes that is a pretty good deal.

I heard from my WC. Yes we can just push the tables out of the way to dance

@April2015  I was just going back to look at this thread and realized that your wedding already passed!  How did it go??  I'm so excited to hear.  I never hear from a lot of Grand sunset brides.

@Sara1603  how is your planning coming along?  When is your wedding?

I just heard that Guillermo left the princess so I'm a little stressed about the planning now.  ah

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
