Wedding Colors Help!

Recommended Posts

I feel so stuck because I have not fully decided on wedding colors, so I can't plan for other things yet! Please give me your opinions. This is what I am thinking:

I am leaning toward typical beach wedding colors like a teal/turquoise (like the ocean) and a paler yellow (sunshine). I will have 3 girls on my side and one guy, then there will be 4 groomsmen. I have a couple problems/decisions that I am running into. First, I wanted to originally let the girls choose which dress and color to wear after I give them the option on the 2 shades (either yellow or teal). But now I am wondering will that look silly with only 3 girls? Should I just decided on a color and that be that?

Second, I am leaning more toward yellow if I have to pick one. Do you think that will look bad with the groomsmen if they wear khaki colored pants and a white shirt? I am wondering if it will be all to pale or if khaki will clash with the yellow. What do you all think? I definitely don't want them to wear a tux or anything dark since it will be so hot.

These are my dilemma's at the moment and any advice/ opinions would be greatly appreciate! Thanks!

My wedding colors are similar - blues and pale yellow. I decided to incorporate them in different places throughout the wedding - for example, the invites were while linen with pale yellow flowers and no blue at all. But the bridesmaid dresses are all different shades of blue. I actually think 3 is the perfect number for different shades of the same color - like an ombre effect. Check out the J Crew bridesmaid collection - my girls are wearing different cuts of the silk dresses, all in different shades of blue. Dark cove and rich peacock are beautiful in real life. Dusty shale is nice too, but it's very pale. Or you could go with the yellow color. I think either would look beautiful with khaki.

I also wanted my girls to pick their dresses, but I will say they may actually prefer direct instructions. I left it very pen ended at first and they ended up asking me to be more specific. I ended up offering the four shades of blue, in any style they want from the silk J Crew collection - and they each chose something different. Worked out perfectly. However, if they had all chosen the same color, then we would have done that. Maybe you can have the girls wear the same color, but let them pick different styles. That way they are still sort of unique, and the girls can pick the necklines that fit them best.

If you're not into J Crew I know David's bridal has nice dresses too - their colors are just really different in person than online, so definitely go in person and ask to see the color samples.

Good luck! And honestly don't stress - it will be beautiful no matter what

@danielleandryan2015

Congrats!!!

I would think about contrast with your background when choosing your colors…for example turquoise or blue dresses will blend in with the ocean and sky for your photos, while another color will be contrasting so will pop!

Yellow dresses with blue flowers would create great contrast! I tend to really like guys in gray with a yellow and blue color scheme. Just a few things for you to think about as this is how I selected my colors. Look at a photographers website and look at pics of lots of different weddings and see what colors you are drawn to. Also notice what colors you don't like with the setting.

2 great photographers sites to check out:

@Linds1204 Thank you for the suggestions on the photographers sites. All of those pictures are so awesome! I am leaning toward yellow dresses and those beautiful blue/purple orchids that they have down there for the bouquet, maybe with some white in there too. One of my girls is very pale and red head so she is concerned about too pale of a yellow but I also don't want to go too bright. We are going to some dress shops in a few weeks to do some looking so hopefully we will have a better idea after that!

I would do the yellow as well - I don't think it would necessarily clash with the khaki either. I was in a wedding a few years back and we wore yellow and the guys had on khaki linen suits and it turned out great.

Seems as though most of us are leaning towards ocean hues.  We are doing "ocean blue" and teal.  Guys will be in gray with ocean blue converse shoes.  Thinking of having lime green flowers for a POP of color.

  • 3 weeks later...

@@NixSpade I haven't fully decided yet. In fact I was just thinking that green would be a nice color too! We are going to do some dress "shopping" this weekend just to get some ideas on color and style so hopefully I can narrow it down!

Before you go shopping take a look at the area's on the resort where the wedding take place, the beach or the chapel, and envision your wedding. I think you might get a better idea of what you want in terms of colour. I haven't decided on which resort as yet, but I do know who is in my bridal party and I made decisions based on what would look good on everyone. Good Luck and have fun.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
