Hi Everyone...

My wedding is quickly approaching- April 12, 2014.

Just wondering what Rivera Maya brides are doing about hair and makeup? Are u using the salon at the resort or looking for outside vendors?  If you're going the outside vendor route...who are u using?

I'm not sure what to do.  Ive read great things about Norma from MAC...and I love mac here at home.  she quoted my $130 for my makeup and $120 for hait (she also works with stylists)  On top of those prices I will most likely have to pay $80 for a day pass! that's puts me over $300 for hair and make up! Does anyone else find that insane?

so this is the latest on my hair makeup issue

I was told im not aloud to bring in outside vendors for hair/makeup.  the day passes are for guests and they don't have access to the rooms.

I was given the salon prices 90+ for hair...90+ for makeup.  My worry is I've been to destination weddings and the ppl in the salon weren't all that great.  the woman who did my hair last time didn't really do that great of a job.  I had a side ponytail with a braid up top.  I've done the same hairdo in the past and did a much better job!  Same with makeup.  the woman didn't do anything that I couldn't have done.  The other bridesmaid was so unhappy she went back to her room and re-did her make up.

I can't seem to find any reviews from brides who have used the salon...and that worries me!

I have very tough to manage hair.  I need a serious professional. On top of my naturally hard to manage hair who knows what the weather will be like- heat, humidity, wind?  I need something that's gonna hold up.

Im currently looking for local salons.  At least they have portfolios that I can view.

Hello!!

There are 2 things that I felt were very important for my wedding day #1 pictures and #2 Hair/make up and was willing to pay extra for the best. I'm getting married at the Barcelo maya palace and I too heard mixed reviews about the salon. My FI always says this to me "You get what you pay for" and it's totally true!! With that said, I hired The Best Moments who have awesome reviews on this site. I paid $320 for hair and make up. They do a trial run before the wedding and they use Mac products and airbrush. They also pay the vendor fee!!! (not sure if they do that with all resorts) I highly recommend you look them up and check out their reviews. You can also look them up on Facebook.

Hope this helps! :)

I totally understand! Hair/ makeup and a photographer were my top priorities as well!

We are staying at the Azul Sensatori, and their salon has great reviews! All past brides have been really happy with their hair/ makeup. I'm not sure if they allow people on the premises who are not staying at the hotel though. I'm having my trial hair and wedding hairstyle done there, and for both I am paying $138. A friend attending our wedding does beautiful airbrush makeup, which will save me a little bit of money! But, if she wasn't coming then I would  be spending around $378 for hair/makeup. I feel like everywhere is overpriced... Anytime you throw the word 'wedding' on anything, the price is automatically higher lol.

The deal that @@LoriGran got from 'The Best Moments' sounds really great!! That's awesome they pay the vendor fee too!

Did you also pay for your bridesmaids? That's the issue I'm having. I can afford myself but I don't think I can afford everyone. I really wanted to treat all my girls but it's so expensive!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
