Wedding Date - Need Advice

Recommended Posts

My fiancé and I are trying to decide on a wedding date for our wedding next summer in the Mayan Riviera. We have it narrowed down to two dates, but we can't seem to agree on which date would be best for most of our guests. Choice A - Wednesday, July 16. Our group would likely depart from Edmonton on Saturday, July 12 and return on Saturday, July 19. Some may stay longer, if they choose to do so. Choice B - Friday, August 1. In this case, our group would probably depart on Sunday, July 27 and return on Sunday, August 3 of the long weekend. Again, some may chose to stay longer, if they choose to do so. Our question is this... Do you think that our guests would prefer to travel during a regular week (choice A) or travel during a long weekend (choice B)? Keep in mind that both options would require our guests to use 5 vacation days, if they come for the week. Thoughts???

If I had to guess, the preference would be to do it over the long weekend. But I know that flights are usually more expensive over holiday weekends too - does that affect your pricing (may be a good question to ask your travel agent!).

I'd also suggest having the wedding earlier in the stay vs. later. We waited 5 days after our arrival, and I wish we'd done it just a day or two after we got to Mexico.

Is not easy choosing dates to accommodate everyone..We are getting marry in October 19, 2013 so far we have over 100 booked.  We chose a Saturday wedding to give everyone options.  I reserved seats on several flights & blocked rooms at our resort.  We did a few on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Must of our guest have kids and would not be able to take a week off from there families.  I love both your date which is Summer months and must kids are off.  I would choose choice B.  Because i would want to take my kids to someone else wedding!!  Best of luck an one again is impossible to please everyone...

Might be easier to plan for a regular week. If they would have to use the same amount of vacation days for your selected dates, then might as well use the regular week.

It sounds selfish (Trust me, I've had to deal with it)... people want to make their own plans for long weekends. So it might be best to avoid dealing with that potential stress.

Hi May I ask how you go about reserving seats on an airline? Most of my guests will be coming from Fll but it seems AA is the only one who flies to Punta Cana from here that time of year. October. They also only fly out of Miami. The prices are steep and I wanted to know what airlines do for " reserving" dates or group rates. Thanks

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
