Shannon's Now Jade Rivera Cancun Planning Journal

Recommended Posts

Hi Shannon,  Great Thread. Congrats on your wedding. Saw the pictures on the Now Jade thread... absolutely beautiful! Makes me even more excited for my wedding in November. I am trying to do some DIY projects, just wondering what are the best things you made/brought to Mexico and what could you have done without. Also, how did you make out packing/getting everything to Mexico? Thanks, Trisha
Thanks Trisha! I wanted to keep things simple and we did not want to drag down a lot of extra luggage. We each had one checked bag for our own clothes & only one extra bag packed FULL... That bag contained welcome bags for our guest.. We had 60 and did one bag per couple. Kept them simple, survival kits, koozies, deck of cards, welcome note, ect... For decor, we only brought some picture frames, chair sashes, bubbles, menus, & programs.. That's it, and squeezing it all into one pretty large checked bag without going over the 50lb weight limit was hard. I honestly couldn't imagine if we took down anymore decor. In my opinion, it is not needed. We did splurge and just used the resort centerpieces. We got 8 @ $65 each. Expensive, but worth it in our opinion. Would not want to lug down all the vases/glass in our luggage. My motto is always less is more & I'm so happy I stuck with it. So in all honestly, don't sweat the small stuff, do a little DIY projects that don't take up too much time or room.. Towards the end of my planning, I had a "to-do" list of some small things I wanted, like paper lanterns, acyrlic ice, etc & I just said screw it! So happy I didn't waste the time or money on it. It's not needed. The location itself is absolutely amazing without all the headaches!

Your review was amazing! Thank you so much for all of the tips.... However, now Im stressing because I haven't started anything and I only have 4.5 months to go!

Did you provide the officiant with a script or was that provided?

How was the beef and shrimp entre? I'm thinking of just having that to make things easier.

Where di you get your fans and chair ties? They are both the same color of my wedding and look perfect!

Congrats on your wedding and thanks again!

Thank You! And congrats on your upcoming wedding. Everything will be perfect! We did provide our own ceremony script, I used this forum and took bits and pieces of other brides scripts that they shared. Gave it to Deisy at our meeting and the officiant read it word for word. (they do provide a script if you chose to go that route) Im sure you can request a copy to read what it says. The beef and shrimp was great and so was the mahi mahi. Our fans were from here: http://m.paperlanternstore.com/9fupahafan.html And the chair sashes from: http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/Hot-Pink-Chair-Sash-p/a16a_sash_orgz_fush.htm Best of luck to you! ;-)

I received my brochures from Vistaprint today! Can't wait to send them out. I feel like it's a tad too early to send them, but who cares, I think I'll do it anyways! Hoping it'll get people excited! I can't believe I can say "my wedding is NEXT month!" LL LL
Wow I love these! They are awesome! Great job! I am sure your wedding was beautiful!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
