How early did you buy your dress?

Recommended Posts

I have found a dress I really want, but my wedding isn't for a little less than 11 months.  Is it too early? Like all brides, I hope to lose a few pounds before the wedding.  Just curious at what point everyone bought their dresses.

well, i bought mine about 7 months before, but we got engaged then married 10 months later. i wasnt really thinking about a time period, BUT depending on the style of dress you end up with, you might need more alterations that take longer, or if your dress isnt in stock it might take a while to come in?

and mine had a corset back so even tho i lost weight it still fit!

Def. NOT too early! My wedding is 10 months away and just bought mine... the dress won't even be shipped in to the store until January! (wedding is in May). So I have from Jan-May for alterations, etc etc. I think most people have more than one fitting esp if you are planning to lose weight. Ordering sooner is one less thing to stress about :)

Thanks!!! I hadn't thought of that but the dress I am looking at has a corset back as well so that would be nice to not have to take it in even if I did lose weight.

Thank you, good to know!  I worry too I'll be buy it early and then find others I really like between now and then.  But the one I found is exactly what I want and a great price so I feel like I should just take the plunge.

I bought my dress close to 16 months in advance. I love my dress and haven't found another that comes close in comparison. No other dress before or after has captured my heart the same way, I feel like it was designed just for me. It came in under budget and I still wish it was cheaper. Ive been tempted to sell it and buy a cheaper dress, but I know I would regret it.

Never to early! I got engaged April of 2011 and found my dress in May 2011 - wasn't expecting to find anything when I went, I just wanted to see what I liked. With much hmmming and hawing I went for it and I think it might have been November (?) that I made my last payment and picked it up....Now for the best part....we don't even have a date set yet!! It's hanging in my livingroom calling my name. So definately not to early...at least you have a date set!! haha. I just look at it as one less thing to do when we do finally set a date.

I'm getting married 4.27.13 and I bought my dress a couple weeks ago. It's set to arrive just before Christmas, so that gives me from December-April for alterations in case of any weight loss (fingers crossed!) I know what you mean though about worrying you'll find another dress you like. Once you find one and commit, you just have to stop looking, otherwise you'll torture yourself! I know because I'm the same way. One of the consultants on Say Yes to the Dress told a bride "once you find the groom, you don't keep going to singles bars!" Thought that was cute/funny.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
