JoeJoe - Most would advisde sending save the dates as soons as you have your date and venue determined. The more time you can give your guests to save and make the financial commitment, the better. Some of us have even sent formal invites already where others are sending them out around 6-8 months in advance. When you send out your invites try to keep in mind what your RSVP date will be and what is dependent on know who is coming (final purchases, misc coordination, decor).

ChocoTaco...but who's counting right =)

JoeJoe: I already sent my Save the dates only because I wanted to give our guests enough time to save and I wanted everyone to have our wedding website. The website has been a helpful tool for everyone and I am glad we did it. Its free and I would so suggest it if you havent done it yet, it can however be a bit time consuming depending on how involved you want it to be. I have booked our travel arrangements through our TA and are making payments on it. I am still waiting for Jetblue and Spirit to post their fares so we have not done our airfare yet. I plan to send out our invites right after the holidays or thereabouts. I can send you our website URL if your interested. I will tell you that his forum is the most amazing place to be apart of.  It has been a huuuuge help for me and all the other brides are super helpful. Everyone is awesome about sharing ideas and opinions it really has been a godsend for me, hope it is for you too!

We havenâ€t talked a lot about wedding plans with her since itâ€s a bit far from now. Do you think I should push her more? I feel so behind. I havenâ€t made any travel arrangements yet, actually I just reserved the hotel for my guests. Have you booked your flight yet? I was thinking of sending my save the dates like in September and my wedding invites sometime in January. Do you think that is too soon?

Thank you for the feedback J

Joe Joe

the WC has a few what in mind to meet with just before the wedding?

We booked our flights last week. :o) but none of our guests have booked anything yet. Over the weekend I asked a friend if he thought he was going to come and he said "yes, I'm just waiting for my invitation". We decided to send our save the date around the year mark to let friends and family know to start saving if they wanted to attend. and I'm hoping to get our invites out since so people will think more seriously about saving and booking soon rather than waiting til the last minute when flight rates sky-rocket. Last week my mom (in Bhm,Al) could have gotten round trip flights for around $500, and this week she said it was around $700 (YIKES!) Hoping they go down again with us being so far out from the date. I see you are going to the Bahamas though, which tends to be a lot less. Round trip for us to Bahamas was going to be about 350-375.

Oh and we have requested that people RSVP by February 29th, 2013. This gives us 3 months before our wedding date to confirm how many expect to come so we ensure we have plenty of OOT bags and goodies for everyone. And also, so we can confirm all of our dinner details and sashes, fans, etc. But I'm almost certain people will still be booking 2-3 months out.

Thank you!!

Welcome bags/ Travel bags sound like a really good idea, im going to look into making some for my guests. What are you including in them? I was thinking maybe purchasing beach bags and adding like a beach towels since the wedding is in the Bahamas and other beach things

The wedding packet we have includes the basics, if we want center pieces we have to purchase them through our wedding planners†vendor. I recall our wedding planner telling me that we were going to have to gather a list of music I wanted for our wedding dance, entrance and so on. I just been putting everything off thinking I was getting way to ahead of myself but now I see that I am actually behind!!

Thanks again

There is a thread floating around about what to include in the OOT bags.. I'm going to possibly include: Pasminas, Aloe, Sunscreen, Chapstick, Hand Sanitizer, Kleenex, Flavor water packets, gum, mints, first aid kits, and whatever other goodies I can get my hands on. you can view all of my photos by going to my profile for ideas. :) Oh and the beach bags are there too, I got them from Old Navy for $1  in my colors. (pink & orange)  The dollar tree, Michael's and Ebay will be your best friend for most OOT bag items. :o)

I saw a neat thing on someones website where they asked their guests to submit music they would like to hear at the reception.

Our website is here if you want to check it out: www.weddingwire.com/alexandbritney (best of all it's free)

Thank you for being so helpful ! your website is amazing! it was free to create? I have been looking into the beach bags but the cost is around $20 per bag and I think it's a bit pricey. Dollar Tree is a good idea :)

Thank you for your feedback, I should really sent those save the dates out already!

JoeJoe

Congratulations JoeJoe, and welcome to the forum.  Don't be overwhelmed by everything that people have gotten started on!  You've done the important part by booking your date and choosing your resort.  Your next step is definitely to get out the STDs and get in contact with a travel agent and get some group pricing for the trip (better than booking individually).  I did this and got a great deal (saved about $300 each).  My guests have 90 days to pay their deposit and we are guaranteed a one time price adjustment up until March 1st.  So should the price go down we can get a refund for the overpayment.  So far I have 35 guests who have payed their deposits.  I knew by sending out my invites so early that a lot of people wouldn't be able to commit so far in advance, so i included a "ask me again in 6 months" spot on my RSVP card.  I'm hoping to get a second group rate in January for anyone that might be wanting to book at that time.  I personally would want to know all the financial information early enough so I had time to save and book vacation time.  I have pictures of my boarding pass invites somewhere on here too!

Once you are in contact with the resort they should send you a wedding package with all of the info pertaining to the ceremony, reception, dinner, decorations, and the fees.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
