May 2013 Brides

Recommended Posts

What is everyones color scheme? I hadn't really put any thought into this, but lately I've been seeing a lot of deep purple and really been gravitating towards it. I thought it would look really nice with the light gray suit my FI is going to go with (something like the below). My question: is a deepish purple too dark for a beach wedding in May? My dress is kind of elegant/glam/old Hollywood and I thought purple was a regal color to go with it. I look really terrible in warm colors, so we were definitely going to go with a green, blue, or purple. Any input would be appreciated! Please be honest...we haven't picked anything yet so I'd rather know now than after we start buying stuff! Like the below are some examples I liked:  202450945719451002_PJkhbX6w_c.jpgPinned Image
I also using the deep purple (eggplant) as part of my color scheme along with some coral and grey (silver) and brown (burlap and Kraft paper) The men's suits are grey linen just like the picture and I love the combo.!

Like Choco, we are doing "pre-travel" packets with packing lists and luggage tags.  When guests arrive in Jamaica, they will get a welcome/thank-you-for-coming letter, a list of scheduled events/activities, a resort map and a note explaining that we are treating all of our guests to a private snorkel/catamaran.  They will also be getting canvas beach bags (per room) and t-shirts for each guest (my FI and I own a company that specializes in graphic design, printable apparel and promotional products).  Although we aren't crazy about lugging everything down there with us, we figured we couldn't not do bags and t-shirts since they are at such a low cost to us.

Allie,

Have you made the t-shirts yet?  I would love to see what you have designed!

With regard to purple:  I LOVE it!   Its classy and beautiful.  Purple would have been my choice if every wedding we have been invited to wasn't also doing purple including my FI's best friend's wedding and my former best friend's wedding.  I just decided I just couldn't do it because I wanted to be totally unique.  So, instead, we are doing a neutral color theme.  You can see examples on my pinterest page: http://pinterest.com/courtneymara/

HAPPY PLANNING!

Not yet, that is our new project! When we have the desig done, I will def post it... Our plan is to have all our guests wear the shirts when we go on our catamaran trip. Hopefully it will make for cute pictures as our photographer will be with us the whole weekend so he will be photographing all of our events.

Allie, Have you made the t-shirts yet?  I would love to see what you have designed!

BUG SPRAY!  Great idea!  I'll throw it in there!  We were lucky with the storm; my FI's bro is stranded in his apartment in Hoboken though!  YIKES!

Awww so sorry to hear! I've been praying for pretty much all of the east coast since the hurricane. So sorry to hear about the future bro in law!

The tequila tasting is through our resort, in a private party type area. It's 17$ a person.. Weird I know having an all inclusive and paying to drink, but they do snacks and stuff like that and I think it will be great:)

As for the bags.. I'm most def wishing I didn't have to lug all this crap down with me! I may give mine out before we go at least to the ppl who are local.

OMG I love it! I am going to contact our WC or TA and see if that's something we can set up. We were going to spend that money on people anyways and I don't have to lug more than my wedding decor.

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
