Hello Ladies! Jade GROOM here (I know, what a shock eh?). I've been surfing through all your posts here and have been writing down some good notes and passing on the information to my future Mrs! I have to say I am really impressed with this thread, lots of people put in a lot of work and research and it's helped me so much in the planning of my wedding!

I have a couple quick questions that hopefully someone can answer;

1. What are your thoughts on the beach wedding? Was it too windy and was there a lack of privacy? I've seen some wedding videos on the beach where people walk behind the bridge and groom non-chalantly or are swimming in the background and this drives me nuts. I know it's a resort and people are there to have a good time, but a little respect for a few minutes of privacy isn't too much to ask is it?

My fiance was really pitching me the Pergola but I convinced her that a beach wedding would be so wonderful- sand at our feet, smell of the ocean, etc. and now all I can think of is a windy mic where our vows can't be heard and screaming children in the background. I think I've ceaded that her original thoughts of the Pergola were spot on, so we might look to change it, but was hoping for some info from you guys.

2. Does anyone have any good photo shoot locations nearby the resort? I saw someone posted earlier about some abandoned houses that looked really neat, but there was some debate if they were still there. Can someone confirm? I also heard that the Puerto Morelos lighthouse(s) offer some great scenery.

3. Did you have any trouble with costs skyrocketing at the resort? From what I have read here it seems like there is a hidden fee for everything and the costs of the wedding can jump exponentially. My bride and I have arranged the things that are the most important for us (photography - $5.4k eek) and have built our budget around that. What I'm worried about is getting to the resort and then the costs keep adding and adding. I don't want to be someone who is comes into a foreign country, starts making demands and being a jerk, but at the same time we simply don't have the money to be bleed to death once we get there. It sounds like a lot of these "hidden" costs are being waived by Pilar, but did anyone have any experiences where they had to be firm, and what was the result? Like I said, I totally don't want to be "that guy" but I just don't want to be taken advantage of.

We are cutting costs by:

- Bringing our own decorations

- Buying flowers outside the resort

- Using an ipod rather than a DJ

- Any other suggestions?

4. What were the funnest activities you guys did while at your wedding? Snorkeling? Xcarat Park? Mayan ruins?

Once again I thank you guys so much for all your hard work. It's helped us a ton!

- Chris

did you get your eyelashes done there too?

I brought my own lashes and just had her put them on for me, because as hard as I try I can never quite get them on perfectly..

FI and I ended up having enough ppl book that our trip, along with our DD was free, so we kicked in $500 to each of our parents to help them out.  It's so hard to know whether to gamble and wait to watch prices, or to lock in when it seems most reasonable!

That is what I am being quoted now. And a lot of TA's are telling me that prices will increase so better to book soon. It's definitely a struggle trying to get the whole group to agree on the price. And a lot of them are not used to booking trips so far in advance but do I really want to gamble with my wedding just to save an extra $100? I'd rather book early and get it out of the way than later because it would only add more stress trying to watch the rates fluctuate. BangHead.gif

Wow that is the best rate I have seen so far! Are you flying out of Canada? Which airline are you going with? Did you have a TA?

1. I had my ceremony on the beach and was so happy that I did! My suggestion - do the set up right by the beach bar closer to the preferred side. I have seen some set up right in front of the main pool and I hated it! The people just sit in the pool and watch and then they are in your pics. Ours was closer the beach bar (which was closed for our cocktail hour) so no one was really there. There will always be on lookers no matter where you have the ceremony but the beach was great. I honestly think that it would be windy on the pergola too since you are still right by the ocean. Our wedding day wasn't super windy so it was fine!

3. I actually wasn't charged for a lot of things that I was supposed to be charged for. I was pleasantly surprised and had no hidden fees for anything for our wedding. As long as you are keeping track of what you are supposed to be charged for you should be fine. Pilar broke everything down for us and I even asked about something that she told me I would be charged for and wasn't. She just shook her head and told me not worry about it!

Hope that helps!

Random questions..

When do we pay? At the meeting before the wedding with Pilar or after the wedding? Do we pay by credit card? If so, can we use 2 different cards?

For those who got their hair done by the spa, did you wash it before you went or have them do it there at the spa? Or not at all? I've always heard that you shouldn't wash your hair before you get it done..

No, out of NYC. And we went with Teresa from Vacations 4 Less. She is amazing. We only booked the resort through her so far and looked for flight prices by ourselves. But I'll ask for quotes as well.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
