This is all just peachy-keen - long wedding planning

Recommended Posts

I found bikini bags at Walmart for $12 a piece.... if anyone is looking....

I picked up one for each of my girls, and one for me!

I'm also talking to FI about his attire and his best man's attire. FI wants to wear khaki coloured pants and a linen white shirt. He told me to decide what his best man - the only one standing up with him - will wear. So now I am deciding between the same as FI, or a light blue shirt. Neither of the fellows care.

What do you think? Should they match? Or be slightly different? We are purchasing all attire.

What do the bikini bags look like? It would be cool if they had a light blue different from the other guys if not then I'd do blue. Are all your girls wearing the same color?

That video is awesome. Thanks for sharing!

I have been doing a little off and on, wedding-related, but I came across this a while ago, and wanted to post it. I LOVE this song, and the proposal is so cute. I do not like this song was played in Breaking Dawn, since I am far from a Twilight fan (I did read them, though, at least). Maybe people won't remember that by July 2013?

Anyway, I thought this was really sweet; I actually got a little teary-eyed. Thought I would pass it along!

I do not have a pic of the bikini bag. They are in the accessories section of Walmart, with the purses and such. They had them in yellow and pink, in two different styles. I went for the pick ones with "bikini bag" written simply in black.

FI is not having groomsmen; just a best man. I normally like the groom in something different, but with just one other guy, we decided to just get them the same shirt. We will do a different bout or something like that I guess.

Okay, so I created these save the dates in Word a few months ago, but I should be able to FINALLY book within the month, and then I will be sending them out, so I was tweaking them a bit. I wanted some opinions...

Should I go with this, which was the original plan?

Or this? They are VERY similar, I just took off a little information. I thought 3 pages were too many. And I figured, if they go to the website they can get the links to the resort and travel agent anyway. And anyone who does NOT go to the website will be talking to us anyway. We really are not expecting that many people to come along at all.

Well, anyway, I guess the question is, should a save the date have more, or less, information? Thoughts?

PS - Also, FI was visiting from work this weekend. We spent ALL day Saturday at the movies... 4 in one day! We have rarely done that since university! One of the movies we saw was the Five Year Engagement. Awesome! I highly recommend (unless you get easily offended!)

We are still deciding. I think we will do the legal wedding first. We had decided, sort of, to do the church thing with the grandparents and parents... but then IMMEDIATELY... like, within 5 minutes, my family starts trying to invite aunts and uncles and cousins.... woah, no. And then, when I said no, they ignored me, and then said, "Well, we will talk about it later". No. I still said no.

So now I think we might sneak off to city hall.

I am upset by this; I really wanted to involve my grandparents, but my parents are really not letting me do it the way we want, so it is turning into an "all or nothing" thing. Sigh.

There has been a LOT of family drama on my side about a DW. I have been trying not to let it bother me. But the other day my dad called and spoke rationally but still emotionally about their concerns. Namely:

1 - I am the first in my entire family to be married, and my grandparents (we both have all 4 still) are too old to travel. I am very close with them and my grandmas are fairly heartbroken about missing it. I am planning on doing an AHR there, but apparently that is not enough.

2 - I come from a religious family; which are all extremely concerned that I am not being married in a church (I have always wanted to be married outside)

3 - the time of year - farmer family, all busy haying. Might not be able to come for that long.

I cannot do anything about 3. I am a teacher; I get summers off. That is when it will be.

BUT - even though FI and I really wanted to do everything - legal and whatnot - in the Dominican, we are thinking maybe we could get legally married here first, with just parents and grandparents. In a church.

Here is my dilemma. If we do the legal thing at home, and the DW, AND the AHR.... is that not a bit MUCH? We would keep the legal thing here simple... small church ceremony, going out for dinner to a restaurant. That is it. We really did not want to do this, but we understand how important it is to my grandparents...

I just can't help but think, then why even do a DW? Is this not a lot?

I know a lot of brides get legally married first, so... what do you think? I guess I just need my mind eased.

We were considering this actually, doing a legal ceremony here with immediate family and the fiance's grandmother that will not be attending and then going out to dinner afterwards. We still might do it, just as something nice to do. My future brother-in-law also got married in a DW and the had a legal ceremony in Banff (they lived in Edmonton at the time) with both sets of parents and then were married in Aruba six months later.

Do what you think is best. I think it might be a nice way to appease your grandmother if you're close with her. It is your wedding and you can do as you like. You also have two options if you do decide to do a small legal ceremony at home: you can either keep it between you and the small amount of people attending or have everyone know. We would not tell anyone if we do it just because we feel people wouldn't attend the DW if they don't feel like it's the "real" wedding (which it is in my mind, the legal ceremony would not be my wedding date). FBIL had pictures from their legal ceremony posted on facebook.

Good luck with whatever you decide!! Families can make destination weddings really difficult at times.

Alrighty, the boarding pass save the dates are done and in the mail.

I had almost all of the material at home already, I just had to pay postage and a little extra paper when I ran out. Altogether, $29. Not bad at all. That works out to about 83 cents each.

I also lined the envelopes, and most also went out with a magnet from Vistaprint too. They were simply printed from our home printer.

I will post pictures once I get them off the camera!

Now I cannot wait to hear what people say about them!

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
