Sky Lanterns!

Has anyone purchased lanterns on ebay?  One posting on this thread had the seller's name but I can't find that particular one.  I found some other sellers who have great prices but I wanted to ask if anyone else purchased from ebay and were happy with the product.

I would ask for more details and specifics. I would indicate that you know of other resorts that do not have this fee... See if there are any other resorts in the Cancun area as we are in the Mayan and not sure if there are different requirements. I would ask if this is a fee to city hall there must be some paperwork, can they send it to you? Is it refundable if there is no fire... Just some thoughts.

I checked with our WC at the Majestic in Punta Cana and they are a NO GO for us unfortunately (and fortunately for our wallets).  I think each resort has their own "rules and regulations" and it was not something I wanted to push on though I think they look amazing.  I believe other DR brides have mentioned they were allowed but for sure NOT at the Majestic Colonial.

After seeing these in the hangover, I checked them out online and immediately emailed my WC. We are not doing a typical reception perse, just a nice long dinner and had originally planned to move our celebration beachside for a bonfire.  Come to find out the bonfire is not allowed (boo!) but setting off the lanterns are! FI loves the idea and hopefully we can convince our photographer to stick around for photos, thinking she will as this is not a common photo opp down in GC. If not my sister will be able to take photos, she does weddings as a side business - just didn't want her "working" during her vacation!

We purchased sky lanterns from freeskylanterns.com for my sister's wedding. The owner Harry is a great guy and you get extra lanterns with each order. Biodegradable too which was key since my sister was really worried about that. The guests loved them! Can't wait to see the pictures.

one question for proti007 - was wind a factor? did you have to go away from the beach to set them off?

They shipped in a box of 36 from Michigan, for $99 plus shipping $31 via Fedex (I had these rushed as they were a last minute decision!). 

 

Some people have asked "how big are they?!". In the box, they were flat and individually wrapped, so super easy to get to our destination. When they were unwrapped, they were MUCH bigger than I expected....THIS WAS A GOOD THING. In order for them to make an impact, they need to be BIG! There is a video right on the home page of the website I ordered from that shows a "how-to" and you'll see how big they are when out of the package and fluffed up.

 

They look AMAZING when lit up in the sky. Above everything else at our wedding (except me crying as I walked down the aisle towards my now husband, and making all 37 of our guests cry, too!) this is what everyone has been talking about from our wedding. My photographer showed me pictures right off of her camera the next day at our day-after shoot, and I CANNOT wait to show you. If you can do one thing at your wedding that is a bit above and beyond, this should be it!!!

You didn't have any hassel at the airport?

I'd be worried that they would not let us take them on the flight. I undertand that they would have to be checked, but still with all the rules nowadays.

She and I are looking into some white ones to order and she has info on site she has found them on.  If the 3 of us go in on it together then I bet it will be a lot cheaper!

Our best man did us a huge favour and took them with him when he flew down to Mexico (we went down 2 days before everyone else, with 6 pieces of luggage). He didn't have an issue on the Canadian side, but DID on the Mexican side - they thought he was bringing them in for resale! He explained, and they didn't really hassle him!
